Shin Sekai Yori episode 17

Downloading anime episodes is not working for me. X___X Very frustrating to download something for an hour and then it says error and won't load. Very frustrating indeed. No wonder it is easier to just go to any old site and get pictures. It's like they don't want me to have screenies.

Um....who would trust this face?
But I will get the screenies. It is anime episode day today. XD Up now is Shin Sekai Yori episode 17. Spoilers for.....just more disappointment.

A bit of a harsh description of what they mean to each other isn't it?
Episode Summary:12 years after Maria and Mamoru left for the wilderness Saki has grown into a normal looking person with the worst job ever. She is working at the Department of Exospecies Control “. From the sounds of it Saki hates her job and has no idea why humans picked QueerRats to do their dirty work. Her boss calls her over as she has a visitor. It is Satoru and Saki explains that the two had a falling out over something dumb and she hadn't seen him for a while. Her boss excuses himself and Satoru explains that a group of QueerRats were attacked recently and things are looking pretty fishy. Saki acts all adult like about the situation which Satoru muses at and the two seem to squash their problems. Still due to politics being what they are in the QueerRat world things could get complicated fast. It appears Saki tells her boss what she knows and her boss summons the heads of the village to discuss the matter. Granny calls in the leaders of the two QueerRat factions Yakomaru and Kiroumaru as one of them attacked the Moth Goat colony as it is not affiliated with either. Yakomaru and his creepy self say they are trying to get the Goat Moth colony to join them but hasn't had much luck yet. Kiroumaru basically says um look how suspicious Yakomaru the end. Granny picks up on the fact that Yakomaru knows way too much about the Goat Moth colony. Add in the fact that Yakomaru's faction is no longer going with the old system of Queen in charge and no one knows what to believe. Nothing is really solved and Saki agrees to the challenge of war between the two parties. She and her co-worker watch the war as the sides seem well stocked with weapons including guns. The co-worker notes that they are getting this technology from somewhere and not to underestimate them. Saki is too busy noticing that Yakomaru and his colony aren't at the battle despite having the biggest beef with Kiroumaru. Kiroumaru eventually wins the skirmish but Satoru reports later there was another attack. Saki thinks that while it looks like a tie for both sides she favors Kiroumaru for the sanctioned battle. Nothing really matters as it is then reported that Kiromaru's entire colony has been wiped out later. THE END!

Serious Saki is not in the mood to talk to Satoru today.
I have no idea why I watch this show. I am pretty sure at this point I just want to torture myself. That I hate myself and I did something in a past life to deserve this self inflicted punishment. I just don't know any more.

Instead we got an episode full of Saki making weird faces.
Maria and Mamoru were not mentioned at all in this episode. Which I guess makes sense since there was a GIANT time skip. The last one we had was two years and now we are looking closer to 12 years. So it makes sense that Saki and Satoru aren't running around being sad over Maria and Mamoru every single day. They have been gone longer than they knew them. But to a viewer it seems....weird. Off putting. Like stop making people forget about things and let us see the fall out from it. But looks like in the next episode they at least get a mention so maybe Satoru kept his promise and didn't forget the lost ones.

Clearly they were thinking....insane things.
Instead of Maria and Mamoru we got an ENTIRE episode devoted to the QueerRats. Every single part of this episode was about them. I wanted to poke my eyes out. Most of them are so gross looking I want to set them on fire. Or eat them. Eat the uglies, raise the cuties. That is why cats are awesome. Had I known that these gross creatures were going to take up half of the plot of this show I probably would have never started watching. Now I can't stop.

Yay QueerRats...
I understand fundamentally that the QueerRats are important to the plot, to show us how the “humans” treat these beings that are clearly intelligent. How they use the QueerRats as their labor and kid killer and general slaves and how these creatures just smile and take it all. Until one of them rises up and convinces at least half of the species to rebel against the “gods”. At this rate we should cheer on the QueerRats as humans have proven to be some shady ass people.

I hope a while is a few months, not a few years.
The fact that Satoru and Saki haven't talked in a while sorta makes me sad. I am not sure how much this while is but her boss at Head of QueerRats didn't know Satoru. And she introduced him as “someone I went to school with”. Not “my dear friend who is a jerk sometimes”. It is just a pile of sad. They went through a lot together and with them losing friends left and right you would think they would fight for this friendship. To say it was something petty is actually how a lot of friendships break up but I thought Satoru and Saki were stronger than that. Not that the petty thing is important just...I wanted them to be closer than they were now. Barely knowing each other and what the other does.

More Lord of the Ring moments I guess.
Not that they needed to get married the moment Maria and Mamoru left. This in danger sex is something the kids use to calm their nerves so I wasn't saying that is why they should remain close. But after all that they have been through who else can understand and listen to their concerns? It is not like they could come back and smile through everything. Talk with all the other kids like it was cupcakes and rainbows. But maybe the petty thing was one of them showing another person attention and the other got jealous? At this point we got no one else to pair up and that seems like the most likely reason to have a fight.

I would be like um can I have a different job? I am sorta a big deal.
Really I am not sure what I was expecting for this episode. 12 years in the future and Saki is working with QueeerRat central and it looks like Satoru is too. Saki was told by Granny she was being groomed to run the village so I wasn't expecting Saki to be working in such a weird...stupid job. Especially after all she knows about the QueerRats. Maybe Satoru and Saki are in these jobs to keep things in check and to stay in the know. Like maybe they can't stop other kids from being squished but maybe they can hold off the squishing? I don't know, the job just seems so odd and not something that I would picture Saki doing if that makes sense.
Photobucket
May we please blow each other up oh great gods?
Did I mention the job sucks and is stupid? I thought the QueerRats bred in the wild and the humans just used different villages for help. What was up with the ones at Saki's job? I like how she talked about how ugly they are and questions why humans would pick these creatures as labor/army forces. Oh speaking of army....QueerRats have to submit a form to go to war? What the hell is this insanity? I mean the asking is weird but why would the humans allow the QueerRats to fight at all? They need them for their labor/war forces do they not?
Photobucket
This amuses me for some odd reason.
Well it might make sense if you think about it. Or that it used to make sense. Worked in the past but now things have changed. But what I am talking about is that the humans would allow the QueerRats to fight among themselves the same way they encouraged the kids to have comfort sex with each other. If the QueerRats are fighting each other they aren't fighting the humans right? Oh yes we make you basically slaves and such but you should totally fight among yourselves. Yes yes indeed.
Photobucket
Is that the first time Saki has mentioned this to anyone?
That will no longer be the case though will it? I guess I should have paid more attention to all of these colonies. Flies. Hornets. Something. Just should have paid attention more. Had I known the QueerRats were going to be so important I would have.
Photobucket
Time for finger pointing.
After many words it was clear what was going on. Yakomaru is building his large group that no longer follow a crazy queen and try to make all QueerRats equal. Kiroumaru is the leader of his large group who is ahead of killing kids and work force. The Goat Moth colony is somewhat in the middle and it appears to the humans they aren't apart of any alliance. Someone attacked the Goat Moth colony and when summoned before the humans both Yakomaru and Kiroumaru present stories that sounds reasonable and paint the other in a bad light. Now.....at this point I would kill all the QueerRats and start off but that is just me.
Photobucket
Maybe Granny should have voiced her concerns a bit louder....
What really was going on was Kiroumaru is actually loyal to humans. Yakomaru hates all humans. All of them. From the beginning of time. He has been playing the role of loyal slave while in the background has been gathering a huge army. A huge army to take over and wipe out the humans. There was a bit of a set back what with the kids always running into them and exposing the situation with the Queen but obviously Saki and Satoru left that out of their report. So the Goat Moth colony was in on their own attack and had humans actually been paying attention during the sanction war they would have realized something was really up. Oh your real enemy didn't show up to battle? Carry on, nothing is weird here.
Photobucket
Is Maria the real mastermind behind this?
It seems that Maria might have a hand in this war which would explain older Saki's thinking that many lives would have been spared without Maria being born. This is a bit disappointing since the QueerRats have enough reason to attack the humans without Maria prodding them. I mean Maria should attack them out of revenge on her own but hooking up with the QueerRats to do so is weird. I guess they would use each other despite not liking each other.
Photobucket
Well....at least they are talking now....
So....not a fan of this timeskip. Not a fan of Saki and Satoru having a falling out as it seems it lasted a while (based on Saki's boss not knowing Satoru). Not a fan of the QueerRats. And not a fan of the gross QueerRat winning this war. But yeah...it is not looking good for humans is it?
