Kobato Episode 9

Even though I am bone tired and had a semi crappy day at work (not as crappy as last Thursday but still meh) I shall post about Kobato. Because I promised. And Tenchi always keeps her promises. Except when I don’t of course. That and I really enjoy Kobato and putting just one episode off has the likelihood of ending up like Chrome Shelled Regios. I am still hold out hope for you forgotten anime series!

But here is my post. Late and typed with a Band-Aid because today was just that grand. But let this be a lesson for you kids out there. No matter how crappy your day is, ice cream can make it better. Maybe for only 5 minutes but it will and it can. Make ice cream a priority today.

Unless you live in Alaska. Then you need a snuggie.

But now it is time to get back on track and talk about this episode. ONWARD!

I don't know if this is plushie abuse or the best scene in the episode.

Ioryogi was awesome in this episode. Or should I say the things that happen to him are awesome. I am not sure which scene was better. Was in the part where he tried to walk up to Kobato but he was too full of water? Was it when Kobato rung him out like a wet rag? Or was it when she hung him by his ears to dry him out? I CAN’T DECIDE!

Kobato is doing something? I MUST STICK MY NOSE IN IT!

Fujimoto was pretty much useless this episode. I actually thought he was kinda creepy when he was spying on Kobato. That and I find the whole concept of hanging all your laundry outside your window for the whole world to see a little weird. But yeah Fujimoto, stop assuming Kobato is up to crazy things. She is allowed to have a life okay! And given she owns nothing but a candy bottle and a stuffed animal the girl has to find ways to entertain herself okay?!

The innocent days before they had cell phone charms.

The friend of the week was Natsuki. And to a lesser extent her camera loving friend Yukino. Natsuki has real issues people. Her childhood friend Yukino has decided she is interested in something that Natsuki isn’t. That means that everything must be complicated now and miscommunications have to happen. Oh and jealously. Can’t forget the jealousy!

Ahhh to be a high schooler again.

On closer inspection these uniforms look awfully familiar...maybe from the most famous anime of all time?

Speaking of which they had on some ugly uniforms. This is an anime right? Where the artists try to make cool uniforms despite the real life Japanese kids wear less than….awesome mandated clothes? So what was up with Yukino and Natsuki’s ugly uniforms? FAIL CLAMP! FAIL!

When isn't Kobato cute?!

Kobato looked cute. I might be biased because I love blue so much but she was adorable. That and I think her hat looked better today, like it actually looked like it went with the outfit. MMM Kobato is always wearing a hat.
Anyway this week’s problem isn’t that too complicated to understand. And while I think everything was blown out of proportion and the music during the trash hunt scene was BEYOND overdramatic I can confirm as a former teenage girl….this kind of stuff does happen.

Can we have a close up of the boringest charm ever...I mean drama starter?

Of course it is easy to say DUDE Natsuki why didn’t you act like a supporting friend? Why didn’t you try out the photography club yourself? Or why couldn’t you at least suggest a compromise? Let Yukino do her photography stuff one day and the next day they can go to the mall or talk about boys or do each other’s nails. Why does it have to be all or nothing? Why couldn’t Natsuki be happy for her friend?

Saying what we mean is hard.

Because Natsuki is a girl.

You can only have one best friend!

For some reason when you are a girl and your best friend makes a new friend you either have to become friends with the new friend or you become a raving jealous crazy pants whom no one wants to be friends with. The options aren’t really that great. It is hard to be friends with the new person because deep down you are mad that they are stealing your best friend. And yes it is stealing whether or not they admit it. So either you have to be the bigger person and see that this new person is awesome or you have to fake it for your best friend.

I was expecting a different kind of outburst but this works too.

OR you can be a raving jealous crazy pants. Which is a lot easier.

So when we break this all down it all makes sense what Natsuki said and did. Even if it comes across as way over the top and too over dramatic. But to us girls (those who have been teenagers and those who are still struggling over those awesome years) we understand how the removing of a cell phone charm can have serious consequences.

Now I am going to give Yukino a lot of credit. I guess a lot of people might be hating on her for avoiding her friend too as it takes two to fight/make a mess. But when Natsuki went to crazy town on her and Yukino didn’t call her a crazy bitch…respect. OR a doormat. But respect. Then when Natsuki confirmed she was the one who pulled away first it was clear why Yukino did this all. She was just responding to how Natsuki was treating her. Yes she could have tried to include Natsuki a little more but sometimes you just get a little excited about something new. That and when you make a new friend there is so much more to discuss and find out about a person. Yes Yukino could have tried more but if Natsuki was going to treat her like that why bother?

Someone can't handle the drama...

Because they are best friends forever! They will get over their little disagreement and now Natsuki can go to the festival. Because Natsuki couldn’t go to the festival alone. TOO MANY BAD MEMORIES.

That was a lot of words without mentioning Kobato. Kobato was there for all of this drama (because breaking into school campuses in Japan is easy) but she was just there. She really took a passive role in fixing this issue. But I think she had to. These girls really had no problem, just a misunderstanding (if that). Kobato just told them the truth that they both needed to be better friends. But sometimes that is what you need to hear sometimes and if it comes from a stranger it really means something. You can be staring right at the truth and only when someone says it can you really understand.

FEEL THE DRAMA!

But Kobato did help. She found the all important charm. It was weird seeing a cell phone charm that wasn’t Hello Kitty but that just goes to show you how far gone I have gone. She showed the girls how important it was to fight for their relationship. And she was rewarded with two more pieces of candy.

Kobato did not eat the snack when it was offered to her OH SNAP!

But Kobato better get rollin. It is already summer and she only as a few pieces of candy. Also what is she going to do while the nursery is on vacation? IS IT FILLER TIME?! SAY IT AIN’T SO!!!
