SIGH! Okay. Guess I put it off for long enough. So here it is folks. The last part of the Haruka arc. WOOHOO go Amagami SS!!!
Did that sound enthused enough? Really I am trying. Maybe once the story is set on a new girl this series will be more interesting for me. But I am not sure I am cut out for flip floppin relationships and only 4 episodes dedicated to said flip floppin relationships. I guess I will stick around for one more girl to see if things are any different. Just no more knee sex!!!
Onward to the end of Haruka. I mean……WOOHOO relationship time!
Episode Summary: Junichi is thinking back to sometime in the past when he was at a park and a girl talked to him. A girl…talking to Junichi? I am shocked. But in the here and now Junichi is waiting after school for Haruka but he is just looking pathetic. Miya and Rihoko want to go window shopping and decide to kidnap Junichi so he can be their slave boy. He puts up with it for a while but abandons them when he sees Haruka at a crane machine. He accidentally helps her win a plushie which is AWESOME in my book. They then go into the arcade and Haruka lies about her initials so they can be compatible on some game. Oh Haruka’s middle name is lovely which means she is ¼ Caucasian. Awesome. They end up going to the park (the one at the beginning of the episode) where Junichi reminds Haruka that this is where they first met. I’LL NEVER LET GO. But no really Haruka was there mourning the loss of her dog and Junichi was there mourning that fact he was dumped a year before. Haruka brought Junichi out of his dark place and Junichi also touched Haruka in a special way that day.
Junichi senses that this would be an excellent time to ask Haruka to spend Christmas Eve with him. Only Haruka declines to meet Junichi in the park and he melts on the ground. But then she explains that her grandparents are coming to town and their family is having a get together and she is inviting him to that. Junichi does the happy dance. However Miya says something WEIRD (it is never explained what) and Junichi is late for the meeting on Christmas Eve. Haruka smiles and can’t be mad at Junichi, seeing how he practically ran a marathon to get there. But she does take Junichi to go swimming in a hotel pool to clean him off. Junichi looks at her boobies for a while and all is well. Haruka then takes Junichi upstairs because that is where the meeting place is taking place an hour ago. Only her grandparents aren’t in town and her parents decided not to come so they are going to a hotel room alone.
Junichi and his miniJunichi are like WHAT IS GOING ON?! Haruka goes to take a bath and Junichi tries to not think perverted thoughts. Only Haruka comes out of the bath and is like WHY AREN’T YOU PUTTING THE MOVES ON ME?! Haruka thinks that Junichi doesn’t love her anymore and she is mad for not expressing herself to Junichi sooner. She says that Junichi didn’t confess enough and hasn’t shown her how much he REALLY loves her. Junichi apologizes for not peeking in on her why she bathed and they kiss, solidifying their relationship. TEN YEARS LATER Hibiki goes to visit the married couple of Junichi and Haruka. They are sickeningly cute and all is well because of that day at the hotel/park all those years ago. And everyone looks exactly the same. THE END!
There we have it folks. This is how you go from awkward stalking to knee sex to ten years of blissful marriage in 4 episodes. Truly a thing of miracles.
Despite the fact that I didn’t like Haruka and wanted her off my screen I feel as if this last episode was a bit rushed. And too much at times. So I am going out on a limb and say that 4 episodes aren’t really enough to fully show a progression in a relationship. I knew that before watching this show but now it has been cemented for me. 4 episodes is not enough time to be romantic, nervous, unsure, and cute and all the other things that come along with being a new couple.
If your middle name is Lovely you must be part Caucasian. Because it makes sense people. Because Japanese people aren’t randomly running around saying random English words. Never. No no, this must be something that only white people can think of. X_X Seriously was any of that even necessary? Of course not but it made it so Junichi and Haruka were compatible.
I do think it was nice that there was a back story to Junichi liking Haruka. I like that it wasn’t some random “oh this girl is hot I must be with her even though I know nothing about her kinda thing.” My definitions need a little work but that is basically how I feel about that. Now only if that was incorporated from the beginning would I be happy. Now it is like OH we need a good reason why these two are destined to be together, quick give them a sad back story. Or cute. Whatever it was supposed to be. I do wish it was there from the start but I guess I should have happy it is there at all.
Junichi being compared to a dog again (or for the first time) was still a bit weird. Also do dogs really like to sit on benches? See if I had a dog I would be trees or squirrels or something. Not a bench. But whatever makes their relationship work.
For a moment I wanted to stab Haruka for turning Junichi down again. But then I realized that this was the last episode in her arc so things would have to work out. Watching Junichi flop on the ground was kinda fun though.
I am not sure how I feel about swimming in December. I am sure it is a heated pool and it was inside but still. This Floridian was freezing while watching that part of the episode. Also the borrowing of swimsuits made me all itchy. DO NOT WANT.
And then we get to the hotel room scene. Given the fact that I am special I really thought there was going to be some parents and grandparents up in that suite. I am such a naive little blogger. But no, Haruka wanted some alone time with Junichi and she couldn’t be upfront about it. This part of Haruka’s thinking I understand. This is girl talk/code. We don’t want to come off too strong but sometimes we have guide the guy. Or hell, we want to be sexy and feel wanted so sometimes we take guys to hotels and get mad at them when they don’t make the first move. Because we are complicated OKAY.
But what I don’t get about her line of thinking is her “I didn’t know how you felt” crap. Like….didn’t you just have knee sex? Didn’t you just have some foreplay scene in the school cafeteria? Doesn’t Junichi stalk you and confess to you all the time? So really I don’t like that stuff at all. I get that girls are insecure and especially dumb at that age…but Junichi is a boy and just as young so that means he is twice as stupid. Don’t make him feel bad about not trying enough because um…he did. He was a stalker. He did quite enough. Silly Haruka.
Aw no sex scene for the fan boys. Let me cry some tears for you.
And then it is the future ya’ll. We go from first kiss to 10 years of marriage (or being togetherness). I think I would have liked it better if it was 1 year in the future, when Haruka graduated from high school and she reassures Junichi they will be together forever. This ending is way too Disney for me, 10 years and we are still lovely dovey sick I wanna throw up. This relationship never had any real problems or issues to contend with. Things went Junichi’s way, Haruka enjoyed his dog like affections, and now she is a housewife and he is the loving husband. Just so so sweet.
In conclusion this arc was MEH. Had they brought in the stuff about the meeting at the park sooner that would have made this a lot more romantic and less stalkerish. Haruka toyed around with Junichi quite a bit but then in the end was all like BUT HOW DO YOU FEEEEEL. And there was knee sex. So yeah…a lot of drama over nothing. Perhaps the next girl (the one who actually is a childhood friend) will be more interesting. And perhaps there will be no more knee sex and dog references.
Also I love crane machines. That is all.
