Tenshi is too cute for words!
This post is going to be one big BAWWWW fest. I am seriously typing this entry with tears in my eyes. And if you manage to walk away from this episode without your heart strings pulled congratulations. You can find your long lost relative on Mount Crumpit.
MOG people I’m not even that fond of Yui and I am sitting here with tissues. Anyone who was worried about how the rest of the plot was going to after Otonashi’s decision should be really satisfied now. If not…well you might have to wait a little while to find that particular snowflake.
This post contains the death of my yaoi pairing and a sudden love of Yui. Crazy I know.
Plans are always better with pictures!
Episode Summary: Otonashi informs Tenshi that he has decided to start Operation Give Everyone Peace and he has chosen Yui as his first candidate. There is brief talk about how Tenshi has been making changes to her Hand Sonic thingy and how she needs wings. But then Otonashi breaks out the silly plan (complete with a dreamlike scenario) on separating Yui from the rest of her band mates. This plan would have been a success if Yui had not been told by her band mates she sucks at playing the guitar and singing at the same time. Yui was in the middle of a meltdown prior to Tenshi stealing her guitar so instead of running after her Yui melts to the ground and resigns herself to just being a singer. Tenshi continues to carry out the plan despite Yui not following her and Otonashi goes to investigate.
Um...you are missing a pink haired girl....
Eventually Yui does go after Tenshi and Otonashi is able to save the day, all according to plan. Otonashi tries to get Yui to vocalize her dreams/regrets in her previous life. She ends up explaining that she was unable to walk most of her life due to a car accident and all she had was the TV. She would watch programs and wish she could be like those people thus she has many dreams. Slightly X_x Otonashi continues on. Yui’s first dream is to do a complicated wrestling move. That goes on pretty uneventfully and she master the moves. Yui’s next dream is to score in a soccer game by beating 5 people. Otonashi deceives a few members of the SSS group into thinking Tenshi is challenging them to a soccer match with their manhood on the line. They stay during the game despite the fact that Tenshi is not there and Yui is acting like a freak. With Otonashi and Tenshi sabotaging the game Yui is victorious. Yui’s next goal is to hit a home run so she and Otonashi start practicing. Hinata catches them practicing but says nothing.
Otonashi is so happy!
Yui becomes frustrated that she is unable to hit a home run after so many days of practice and gives up. But she does so with a smile because she is able to move around and have fun in this life. She then reveals to Otonashi that she had one more regret from her past life, that she never got married. She starts to ask Otonashi to marry her but Hinata comes out of nowhere and declares he will marry her. Yui starts to feel as if she is not being honest with Hinata but Hinata argues all is okay. He doesn’t care that she was unable to walk in her previous life or if she might not be able to walk in her next. Hinata creates this scenario how he will accidentally break a window in her room and when he goes to retrieve it he will meet her and that is how they start a relationship in their next life. Yui cries and disappears, moving on to her next life. Otonashi is worried that Hinata is upset with him but Hinata says that he is here to help out as many others as he can. Elsewhere in the school Yuri is informed that her troops have fought some kind of dangerous shadow creature and are scared out of their minds. THE END!
Can my entire post contain BAWWWW?! That is seriously how I feel right now. I almost wish the last scene didn’t exist because it slightly took away from the BAWWW factor. But I guess it was necessary to further the plot along. Also Angel Beats! likes to end on a cliffhanger so no point in criticizing them for something they have been doing all along.
BAWWWWWW!
Tenshi abuse!
I really loved Otonashi being so into his plans to give people peace. Well and I loved his little scenario in his head. I am a fan of silly cut scenes. Otonashi was being so serious about his plans but I was too busy laughing at crazy Yui chasing a silly Tenshi. So Otonashi is a very intelligent person with an excellent plan but he still manages to bring the laughs. A well rounded character indeed.
Tenshi is a power ranger now?
Tenshi also made me laugh even though she didn’t do much. The way she was nodding and listening to Otonashi made me smile. I get the feeling she doesn’t really understand his plan all that much but she trusts him enough to agree to his silly plan. It was also amusing that Tenshi was not able to deviate from the plan. When Yui didn’t follow her Tenshi still went outside and gave Otonashi the guitar. She is smart enough to make changes to her body/program but common sense is lost on her.
HOW DARE YOU BE RIGHT!
Yui being picked on by her band members made me smirk at first. Then I watched the rest of the episode and decided they were assholes! No really…I can see where the original Girls Dead Monster members might be a little frustrated with Yui. The SSS group allowed Yui to be the new vocalists. They didn’t seem to be in control of the decision making. Maybe one of the original girls wanted to step up and shine. But they got Yui who really was trying to be Iwasawa 2.0 when really she was going good at being Yui. So I can see how the girls were frustrated with the entire situation.
Yui surprised me when she didn’t run after Tenshi to get her guitar. Maybe that was her realizing that her teammates were right and she was going to try to focus on her singing instead. She moved on from having her tantrum and wanted to help the group in any way she could. However this maturity was short lived and soon she went running after Tenshi as planned.
Poor Otonashi. He thought he picked an easy person to start with and he ended up picking the person who had a million and half dreams. I half expected Otonashi to try to walk away and Yui having to drag him back with demands to pay attention to her. But Otonashi is following through with the plan because he is a true friend.
Who is that familiar little piggie on the end?!
Yui’s back story was sad. We all know nothing is going to beat Yuri’s sad story of woe so there is no use in comparing the two. But with the other kids there was the idea they got to experience a little bit of life and something bad happened to them. Yui was stuck in bed from a very young age and could only watch the world from her window. So that to me is pretty damn tragic. Adding in the guilt that Yui experienced from having to rely on her mom for everything and her life was actually “useless”.
That looks helpful.
The wrestling dream wasn’t that amazing for me. Just meh. I am not a real fan of wrestling and I think it was special that Yui was trying to complete a complex move without having the basic component down pat. Then I remembered that she was only able to watch TV and she was just star stricken into liking certain things. That and the scene was necessary to show how dedicated Otonashi was to the cause.
Otonashi is shocked and amazed!
The soccer game was more amusing. I am surprised that the guys were so duped into believing Otonashi’s dumb note. I was also surprised that they stayed to play the game when they realized there was no danger. But Otonashi counted on the boys being boys and that they couldn’t get wounded in their man pride. MMM Man pride, causing problems since the beginning of time.
Some dreams are impossible but that is the reality of life...
I like that Yui was unable to complete her baseball dream. Even though this is a world of dead kids and girls who can graft swords on their hands I found it really realistic. Just like K-On!!’s episode this week it was a realistic view on just because try really hard doesn’t mean you are going to succeed. Failure will happen, especially when you are new to something. But instead of being upset that she was unable to reach her goal Yui was once again mature enough to be happy with Otonashi spending time with her and that she was able to run around and have fun.
This episode is the death of Hinata and Otonashi’s nonexistent yaoi relationship. Let’s have a moment of silence for something that never was.
Before Otonashi could help Yui become a better band member Yui reveals that she has one more dream. And this dream actually makes sense and is probably what started the tears. Yui wanted to get married. Now this might not be true for all but a lot of little girls/young ladies out there dream about getting married. Most of us won’t be rock stars or soccer heroes but most of us will get married. That basic dream was also stolen from Yui and was something she probably regretted the most. It just really hit home to me how sad and lonely Yui was all that time.
This will only end in tears.
And then Hinata comes in and things get slightly confusing. Hinata agrees to marry Yui but they both continue to talk about her being unable to walk. Um she is DEAD right? (not my theory but rolling with what the characters think). So this marriage she is talking about is what will happen after they are reborn. That they are going to WHOOSH go to the world as babies and become slightly different people with different lives but the same soul. But the way they were talking it almost seemed like they thought they were going to go back to THAT life or that Yui was magically going to be bed bound again? I don’t know, it was confusing.
Of course Yui might have been referring to that Hinata didn’t know her true self, that he was marrying a fraud. Hinata was trying to convince Yui that he loved her whether she was unable to walk or if she was strangling him for no reason. Either way BAWWWW!
BAWWWW!!!
And here come the water works.
I really, really loved Yui and Hinata’s dream of the future/past. That despite Yui being unable to walk they still had a happy relationship. Of course in this fluff dream they didn’t show the awkward moments and frustration but that’s fine. It was beautiful to see Hinata smiling at Yui and Yui to have light in her eyes. Just one huge BAWWW fest seriously guys.
Hinata is just so wonderful and giving!
AND THEN SHE DISAPPEARS! I really thought BOTH of them would go poof which probably didn’t help my BAWWW fest but no. Hinata stayed. He basically confessed his love to this girl and she is off to get reincarnated without him. I was expecting tears but maybe Hinata was focusing on her being happy. He knew what Otonashi was planning on sending Yui home. He had the power to stop him. But he decided to help Otonashi out and gave Yui her greatest wish. BAWWWW!
All I have left is a Hinata and Otonashi friendship. There will probably be no more yaoi jokes between the two. Sadness fills my heart. But I do think it was really sweet that Hinata backed up Otonashi. He didn’t go running to Yuri to tattle on Otonashi. He was smart enough to figure out Otonashi’s plan and was able to aid him in the end. BAWWW at the friendship now.
MOG what now?!
And then the last scene made me go X_X. Here we have another disappeared member of the SSS gang but we don’t have time to mourn. Because some creepy shadow thing is coming to kill the rest of the gang. Okay. That was random. I doubt it is Tenshi putting on an act so do we have a new enemy? Or one last clone that got away? Guess we will have to find out next week as once again the previews SUCK!
Did everyone enjoy the BAWWWing? There will probably be more once you realize that there will probably be no more kick ass songs. :(
AW Otonashi and Tenshi are wounded birds!!!
