To Aru Kagaku no Railgun Episode 24: Final Episode!

Guess who saves the day!!!

This is it people. The end of To Aru Kagaku no Railgun. Okay two days later but still. Everyone it’s time to put on your sad faces.

This series (season) has had a lot of ups and downs for me. There were times when I hated Kuroko and there were times when I wanted to kill Kuroko and Uiharu. There were times when I wished Touma was there to save the day and other times I was glad it was a girl power kinda show.

But now it is over. It will feel weird without some form of this series in my life but maybe Index and her crew will have a season two in the near future. For now here are my thoughts on the last episode and the entity that is To Aru Kagaku no Railgun.

Edit: So yeah. This post was suppose to go up on Monday but right when I was making the screenies BAM the cable goes out. I am not sure how long since I went to bed but yeah. Comcast set me back another day so I am not as lazy at it appears. I’m sorry Misaka!!!!

Episode Summary: Everyone lives and Misaka ultimately saves the day. THE END!

Someone has a really bad case of the uglies.

Real Episode Summary: Everyone who had a slightly helpful power in the series works together to save the day. Also Saten beats a computer to death. Telestina becomes more and more insane but Misaka powers up and saves the day. Harumi uses the controversial First Sample to wake up all her unconscious children (instead of its intended purpose of making a Level 6) and everyone is crying tears of joy. During the credits everyone who had a speaking part during the series looks up at the sky as Harumi’s kids wish her a happy birthday. THE END!

Yes the summary is a bit brief and not detail oriented. It’s kinda how this episode was. And how it should be. We have been watching this series for 23 weeks now. We know how things end and how no one ever dies and that no matter what Misaka will save the day. So while this episode played out exactly how most of us thought it would it was still fun to watch. XD

Why do we hate each other again?

Okay maybe I was a bit surprised that Kongo showed up to help fight. I really shouldn’t have though. Despite the fact that the rivalry between her and Kuroko was never really explained it was there and is there a better way to end a series than having them help each other buy the real hero extra time to save the day. Also Kongo’s power is about 786774654 times better than Uiharu’s. Of course my power is better than Uiharu’s…..

She flies through the air with the greatest of ease!

I thought Konori was going to be more helpful what with her dramatic coating putting on last week but she did her job. I like how she was willing to sacrifice herself to throw Misaka to safety. She was never meant to be the star so she served her purpose as a great supporting character well.

Anti-Skill was a bit low key in this series. In To Aru Majutsu no Index they had their stuff together whereas in no Railgun they were almost like the bumbling fools. Get permission to stop a crazy person from making road pancakes of the City’s Level 5? Yeah how about no. Next time pick up the helpfulness.

Silly little freak.

Telestina earns not sympathy points with me. Aw your grandfather used you as a guinea pig in his efforts to make a Level 6? That sucks. Go and kill him. Or use his brain as a birthing ground for a Level 6. Don’t use kids that were just as innocent as you in your crazy experiments. Also what is your power again? If you were that amazing that you were the gateway to Level 6 one would think there would be something special about you. But all you do is fight in a mecha and cackle that evil smile….

Photobucket

Who needs to be Queen of a city? Let's blow it up instead!!!

I never understand enemies like Telestina. The purpose of making a Level 6 was to make Academy City nothing? Even if the unconscious kids didn’t destroy the entire city in the process Telestina didn’t give a flying cupcake about it. I would have more respect for Telestina if she wanted to make the first Level 6 and be the ultimate ruler of Academy City but she wanted to create a Level 6 just to create one. Makes no sense to me. If you are going to cackle evil and have a hideous smile please have a good reason for being a bad guy.

Yay for research!!!

Although Telestina does get points for her Ultimate Weapon and Ultimate Weapon Backup. Most bad guys just pull out their big and shiny weapons and hope the audience will be impressed with the size and not wonder why the baddie waited until the very last minute to use this piece of danger. But with Telestina it makes sense. She has been using Misaka and studying her power to create a weapon to beat/match Misaka. That makes sense my friends. That is how you take out the hero! Of course it didn’t work but she gets points for trying okay!!!

Kuroko didn’t do anything to annoy me this episode. She did her job, didn’t cry like a little wimp like someone I know, and basically was Misaka’s right hand man during this last fight. That is her place and she knows it well. I hate to admit it but the two work well together even though they have only know each other for a short amount of time.

Thanks for the news flash Uiharu.

Uiharu did nothing. The end.

Saten wins at everything!!!

YAY SATEN! I knew there was a reason why you didn’t have a power. Everyone needs a Xander on their team and you play the role well. The overall good cheer with potential to save the day. Only you could have stopped Telestina and you did! I probably would have died if I had to run up all those stairs so you are a winner in my eyes already. I am just glad Saten didn’t dwell on the reason why she was useful. I still want her to have a power.

Photobucket

Nope, no tears for you!

Telestina gets no redemption in the end but at least she gets to live. I am not sure why she picked Haruue to become the Level 6. Yes her powers could increase randomly at times but wouldn’t it be a safer bet to pick a Level 5? I guess we needed more story with Haruue though.

Photobucket

How can you be mad at this face?!

I thought Harumi was very…giving with Misaka. Had Misaka snarked on me and lost my kids there would be heads rolling. But then again Harumi is smart and knows her best way to save her kids is to use Misaka so…you know. Kudos for trying to fight Telestina when she was in a crazy mecha though?

Photobucket

I'm sure this makes sense....

I am not sure why the First Sample was able to wake up the kids. It just is that magical and we are suppose to role with it okay! It had the power to create the ultimate esper or wake up a bunch of kids. Clearly the choice was easy. It would have been better if there were no negative consequences to the first option (say the Level 6 would be able to save the world or something) so Harumi using the First Sample would be a little bit bitter sweet but the better moral choice. But it wasn’t so meh.

Photobucket

Teacher...?

YAY KIDS! I thought they would look older but I am not good at guessing anime characters ages so meh again. Harumi is happy, the kids are happy, and we got to hear the opening theme songs as Misaka battles the bad guys. Also head band kid is pretty cute.

Everyone wakes up and lives happily ever after!

The series ends with all the minor characters (including Index and Touma) looking up at the sky as Harumi’s kids wish her a happy birthday on a blimp. Everyone is happy and smiles as Misaka resigns her life to living with crazy people. No one dies and the promise of future bad guys and milkshakes fill the air.

Photobucket

We weren't that important were we?

Overall the storyline was pretty decent. I am not sure what I like better though, Index with multiple storylines that may lead to one focal baddie (the dude in the floating goo tube) or Railgun with ever action in the series pointing to one problem. Railgun was easier to follow but Index had more danger in the air so to speak. Who knew there were so many evil doers in the world.

Railgun would have been better had they not devoted so much time to all the minor characters and their minor back stories that I really didn’t care about. Especially the head mistress’. Sorry you got dumped but you are not that important to devote a whole episode too. So in that aspect Railgun could have done a lot better.

But Railgun wins at friendships and relationships. Mainly because Touma lost his memories in Index so it was harder for him to connect to people. I think though people being close after only a few weeks of knowing each other is a bit silly but that is coming from a girl who watches Reality shows. You know, the things were people become insanely close after a few weeks.

Kuroko started off as my number one annoyance. But now she is tolerable and Uiharu needs to get kicked to the curb. That is truly shocking to me. XO

Misaka started off as the girl who could do no wrong and was this awesomely strong person. Don’t eget me wrong she is still the awesomely strong person. But now we the audience have seen her silly side, her frustrated side, and weak side. In other words we have seen Misaka as a person and not just as a Level 5 person.

Which is the entire purpose of the show. No matter what power level you are or if you have a power (love you Saten) you are still worth something. What matters is how hard you try and if you try to make a positive impact on the world while doing so. Everyone is important. Cue the AWWW moment.

Everyone say goodbye!!!!

It has been a long 24 weeks. There have been some good moments and some not so wonderful moments. But as a whole this series is worth watching and I recommend it to anyone looking for fantasy show that tackles real life issues. Goodbye Misaka and gang, the ride was fun!
