Hiiro no Kakera episode 8: Mahiro is an asshole part two!

Hello there my lovely readers. Are you having a good day? Hopefully you are. And if you aren’t…looking for tiny silver linings. Like today insane things still happened at work but BUT…my coworkers noticed they were happening to me! They were coming up to me and asking WTF was going on and why it was happening to me. So while I rather these things not happen to me at all if other people see and acknowledge them too it makes me feel better. Like I don’t live in the Twilight Zone.

That would probably require people helping you out though.
But I might still be semi in CrazyLand as Hiiro no Kakera is the only anime up and subbed. Mainly because I am behind on the show but still. Disappointing. Wai. But….I guess I can do something while the raining is threatening to wash away my car. Spoilers for episode 9 being another Mahiro Asshole episode!

Or we all can die. Either way.
Episode Summary: Masataka explains to the group in about 5 different ways that he works for the government in watching this town. Apparently his branch is concerned with the premature end of the world that might happen if the seals are broken. Why haven’t they helped out before? Well…because they thought the Guardians could handle it. And since they (the Guardians) can’t the government has sent Masataka as their go between, to get the groups together. All the guardians are like um no but Granny is like Tamaki has to decide. Tamaki decides that given how they got their asses kicked last time maybe any help would be appreciated. She accepts which pisses everyone off. The guardians talk about how pissed off they are…while Tamaki just sits there taking all their garbage. Suguru gets everyone to disperse so Tamaki can be alone with her sad thoughts. She has a dream later, with someone mumbling things again. She wakes up and slowly realizes that O-chan is the only one really there for her. Tamaki goes to school and pretends to be friends with Kiyono. After that 5 second scene she spies Shinji and what she thinks is a foreign language teacher. Only it is Vier with a bad dye job. Tamaki continues to spy and Vier really gets close to Shinji. Tamaki does a bad job of hiding and is nearly revealed when Ryou emerges from…the weeds and pretends like he was the noise. He distracts Shinji which makes Tamaki mad for some reason.

HI BESTIE!!!!
Tamaki puts all of this Shinji nonsense aside and has lunch with her school aged guardians. Takuma and Mahiro are still being assholes and Yuuichi is trying to smooth things over with food. Everyone decides to do what Tamaki said last episode (Shinji find Logos, Yuuichi check books out in the library, and Takuma/Mahiro go with Tamaki) but Mahiro has to do so in an asshole way. The storage unit group makes it there and Tamaki is cheerful they will find something because she is the Potato Princess. Suddenly Tamaki floats in the air and starts to glow. She starts talking about the history of the world and how all the gods were all fighting and the only one who could stop all this fighting and turmoil was the Potato Princess. Only something happened to the sword she made and….Tamaki is done talking. Mahiro gets all pissed off for some reason and explains his family has known about Logos for YEARS and made sure they stayed in check. But he knew when they showed up this time they were toast and Tamaki acting like if they just wished for a little Disney magic things would get better pisses him off. He screams and pushes at Tamaki a bit more as she wishes for rainbows to save the day. Takuma and Mahiro walk away leaving Tamaki thinking everything in the world is her fault. Aria is shown thinking about what to do with Tamaki, a girl who just won’t give up. THE END!

KILL MAHIRO!
DEAR LORD! Is this the type of show where the Guardians slowly die one by one or one where everyone lives and goes on with their happy lives? If it is the first option peace out Mahiro! Of course Suguru will probably be the one who dies first given just how these things work but still. DEAR LORD!

Except we all want to live and you know...things could end the world here....
First things always first though, except when I decide not to. XD Masataka and his weird self. One would think that a super secret government agency would actually use the person who could stop the end of the world. Not just watch them and hope things turn out okay. Of course they are steppin in now that it looks like Tamaki and company needs help. I don’t know, it is obviously meant to be suspicious but it doesn’t make a lot of sense for a lie either. Oh yes the government is aware that the world might end in this tiny village but we won’t actually DO anything about it. You know, make our barriers around the seals and keep the princess protected with machine guns and rocket launchers. Teenage boys should do the trick!
Photobucket
NO PRESSURE!!!!
Grandma is pretty weird. I do think Tamaki should make her own decisions…when she has all the information! That isn’t stopping Grandma from double checking out who Masataka is but given the fact that Tamaki currently knows the least about everything lets not let her make the tough decisions. But since Grandma’s Potato Princess philosophy is fly or die…sure do what you what you want. Hopefully you don’t die!

The face of someone you can trust.
So while I know it is a bad idea to trust Masataka (because he is creepy AND his picture is in a red box…just like Logos) and everyone else knows it is a bad idea…maybe keep those ideas to yourself. Especially if Masataka just got done saying Logos might be breaking down due to in fighting. Like oh want to see some REAL in fighting?! No. So smile in front of the suspicious looking man and spy on him in the shadows. Maybe he is smart enough to know you are going to spy on him but don’t make it obvious! Plus maybe you could use him if he is telling the truth. OH AND IT WAS RUDE!!!
Photobucket
WELL MAHIRO!!!!!
Mahiro…I don’t even know what to say. Later in the episode he tells Tamaki not to say everything she thinks or to force her ideals on to other people. Well what the hell was he doing all episode? We get it Mahiro. You suck. Everyone lost. You thought you should have died in battle. Now unless you are going to jump off a roof…..get over it!!!! What do you want Tamaki to do?! She can’t make you guys get stronger. Haven’t seen you guys train to get stronger. No one wants to give her any information. And she really just met you all crazy people. So…why is it such a big deal that she wants another crazy person’s help? Because it hurts your pride as a man?
Photobucket
Can I take his place? I am sitting under the tree too in the opening!
Brb going to go cry for Mahiro feeling sad and overlooked. CRYING FOR HIM! If you look outside your house and see a thunderstorm that is my cries of anguish for this man.
Photobucket
WFT is wrong with this picture?!
I really love how all the Guardians are outside talking about the various levels of WTF…with Tamaki standing right there. They need to decide what they are going to do. They are either faithful guardians or reluctant teenagers with super powers. Stop boo hooing this is your destiny and then question the person you are supposed to be watching. Pick a side flip flopper.

MOG! It's baby KIRA!
Tamaki had a nightmare tonight. I would have had nightmares about being protected by assholes but I guess that wouldn’t be helpful would it? No no Tamaki had a dream about someone saying they were sorry. Obviously fun things are in store for our Potato Princess. Is this a dream of the past or one for the future? HMMMM. Going with past and maybe this is going to turn out like Fushigi Yuugi…..
Photobucket
And you don't mention this to anyone....because?
After the 5 seconds of Kiyono (because that is how important she is folks!) Tamaki actually sees Shinji being a double agent and doesn’t even know it. Vier’s hair dye is just that magical. Poor Tamaki. I mean…I guess we can’t blame her for thinking it was just so highly inappropriate teacher/student time. I mean usually people don’t blatantly meet with the “enemy” in broad daylight. Good thing Ryou had Tamaki’s back and chose to sleep in that random pile of grass on the ground.
Photobucket
Can she order him to jump in front of a train or something?
At lunch they repeated the same conversation as last week. Only since I watched that episode yesterday I was like um hello I just heard this. Everyone magically volunteering to do what Tamaki asked them to do was amazing of them yes? Of course Mahiro had to go the extra mile and be a jerk about it. No you can’t disobey her orders. You are lucky she isn’t cutting off your ball sack for being an asshole. But Tamaki being the doormat that she is just allows it to happen.
Photobucket
Just some reason folks!!!
At the storage unit of bigness things actually happened. Now maybe more would happen if someone bothered to crack a book but who needs to read when random possessions happen. And it was random folks. Like none of this I am Blah Blah Ghost. Nope just break out into the world’s most boring history lesson WEEE! Like one god to rule them all until one day he wasn’t there. The Potato Princess was picked to trap all the power in the sword but then it failed the second she did it. Really folks it was amazing. Watch it for yourself.
Photobucket
Blood being the important word there.....
The best part of this random history lesson was the most important part was missing. You know, when the Potato Princess takes the sword and stabs herself with it to activate the seal. Hello Fushigi Yuugi! I sense you are coming. So all the I’m sorries? Sounds like the dad was sorry for doing this to the daughter. Of course all of this could have been avoided had Grandma been training Tamaki since birth instead of waiting to be dying of cancer to say HEY go get that Tamaki girl because the seals are weakening.
Photobucket
He just slid that topic o conversation right in there!
So after all this magical stuff is said and done Mahiro explains the real reason why he is being such an asshole. He actually knows who Logos is. And no he didn’t explain it. Gosh that would be silly! But apparently Logos has been showing up FOR YEARS and Mahiro’s family has been defeating them every time. Only 5 seconds later (or before…) he said Logos only came to investigate and never caused problems. It surely is easy to defeat people who aren’t fighting you.
Photobucket
Partners that tell you NOTHING!
The point being Mahiro knew who these clowns were the whole time and thought they would be a piece of cake. But now that it is his turn to step up in the family and he failed it is Tamaki Sucks! With a parade folks. Really I am not sure why he doesn’t see that the situations are totally different and Tamaki is just trying to do her best. Maybe they would have been better prepared for the total washout of a fight.
Photobucket
I am pretty sure this is a big guardian NO NO!!!!
Things got a little repetitive after this revelation. Tamaki just wants to become stronger, Mahiro doesn’t understand why Tamaki has boobies, and Takuma (who was actually in this episode) wondered how he lost his asshole status so fast. It was the same old same old. Tamaki is a girl and wants to make things better. Mahiro is a boy and wants to bash his head against a wall to prove how much of a man he is. The scene ends with Mahiro and Takuma walking away from the person they are supposed to protect and Tamaki blaming herself. Again.
Photobucket
What's with this name?!
That about covers it for this episode. Aria is seen talking briefly about Tamaki and how her Potato Princess self hasn’t been following the rules. Well maybe if Aria just stole all the Artifacts while everyone was having an emo attack she wouldn’t have to kill Tamaki. But I think it is becoming clear that Aria is being used too and maybe Shinji knows that. That Logos is using Aria to do something super horrible which means Aria and Tamaki will come together and stab each other with the magical sword. AH animes. XD

I don't think I will ever understand this "pride as a man" business. I mean, sure, it sucks when your a** get kicked, but lash it out on the clueless girl? Is that what your man call "pride"? Mahiro, stop being an immature brat and get over it. I know Shinji was volunteering to find any info on the enemies’ hideout, but what has he found exactly? The poor girl has just been running into dead ends again and again when it comes to just HOW she is supposed to become the true Tamayori Princess. Without a convenient manual and faced with a predecessor whose lips are sealed tighter than bank vaults, it’s hard to blame her for not being able to do anything since she has never been given the proper tools to make anything of herself.

All that anger aside, I am glad we actually see how the guardians interact w/ one another. The comfort b/w them shown they do care for each other w/o the mighty I-told-you-so attitude. Thank god Yuuichi finally shown more on “suspect something” toward Shinji. Really people, get into action already and stop just “suspects something”, how long does it take you to be doubtful on someone. But then again, I should be glad this shown actually shown the heroes possesses some brain cells. XDD

Anonymous- Most of the time I get really frustrated with the clueless girl who has to be rescued and protected by a horde of men. But in this anime the girl is actually TRYING! She isn't in a far off land, she is at home with a very uncooperative Grandmother. She is told to figure things out yet is constantly yelled at for not understanding. And because she lacks a penis she will never understand how it feels to be beaten in battle and suffer a loss of man pride.

So much bullshit. Everyone is spending so much time feeling sorry for themselves they haven't thought about the girl thrown into this dangerous mix. I mean...at least the guys grew up knowing that this was going to suck. She just learned about it and is trying to make the best of the situation. Instead she got Mahiro. Yay.
