Sailor Moon Series Review

The (re)birth of a legend...

Exactly 4 weeks ago (exact in Tenchi time anyway) I posted about my love for Sailor Moon and how I had plans to watch the entire series subbed.

When I made that post I had no idea that it would only take 30 something days to complete my goal. Yes I have watched all 200 episodes of Sailor Moon! Rejoice the masses and celebrate my ability to not have a life!!! YAY SAILOR MOON!

Now…to be fair to myself (because you have to defend yourself!) getting sick helped my little goal. Yeah that sounds weird but it’s true. One has a lot of time on their hands when they can’t go to work and anything besides sitting makes you weak. So while I did watch a lot of the Olympics in-between events I would watch Sailor Moon. And I didn’t miss the insane amount of TV I usually watch. Tis very strange!!!

When I started off with my little goal I really was hoping to finish all 200 episodes by summer. And I thought that was an insane goal. Really I thought if I could devote one hour a day to the series I thought I was doing good. But it turns out once you start a series you can’t simply stop after a few episodes! Even though I had seen most of the episodes (up until midway season Super S) I still felt the need to keep on hitting the next button.

So even though this series is 18 years old at its oldest and 13 at its newest I still feel the need to write my own personal overview. A bit late but ya know. XD So click to read my opinions on all 5 seasons, spoilers, and a walk down memory lane!

One must stop and deliver a speech before attacking!

I think I shall start off by doing a mini overview of each season and then discussing any other points I feel need to be discussed. Or at least that is my plan. I am not really great with plans though….

Also a VERY important note! My special self forgot to take screenies throughout the viewing process. That might have been a good idea as I didn't know what I was going to talk about in advance. Of course I wish I could write more but that is besides the point.

The point is since I failed to take screenies and it would take FOREVER to find each episode I wanted to take one screenie from, let the video load, and take it I decided to look for a website that had screenies already. Enter The Oracle. She spent so much time and energy making tons of screenies it boggles my mind how hard she worked! So all the images on this post come from this site. Credit goes to her, not my lazy self. But she truly saved my sanity and post. Thank you for putting all those screenies up in such a convenient way.

Sailor Moon Season 1:

Ah memories. Memories of junior high/high school. Memories of my very first manga/comic book. And my very first experience with dubbing and all its evils. I had never seen this season in Japanese before and wow. X_X Some of the changes that the American version had were drastic (it took me about 15 attempts to spell this word close enough for spell check to kick in, I think I need to go back to junior high!) and some were random and unnecessary. Like cutting out the entire episode because Usagi had green hair and a leather jacket. And just about everyone’s voice actor. I thought some of them were okay back in my younger days (except for Naru MOG MY SOUL!!!!!) but after listening to their real voices the only one that was hard my soul at times was Usagi. And maybe Luna as I liked her better as the Mary Poppins nanny I saw someone else refer her to rather than the clueless kitten.

Some changes were actually okay in the book of Tenchi. Namely the songs used in episodes 34 and 46. Really with episode 46. I am going to say something that is completely unSailor Moon fan like but I am not really a fan of the opening theme song (that was used for 4 seasons WTF!!!). It was annoying and really didn’t set the mood for me. But I am probably not their target audience anyway so…yeah. But putting that aside that theme song really didn’t scream OH HAI fighting the big bad guy moment now. Your friends are dead, your almost but not quite boyfriend is dead, and your entire planet is about to be destroyed unless you die. It is not the time for skipping down the road with clumsy girls and what your hearts looks like. So even though the American version totally screwed up Sailor Moon so many times over I really liked the song changes.

TIME TO BE SERIOUS PLEASE!

Usagi’s personality was really hard to handle at times. But since this series was about her growing as a person she has to start off the first season as a lazy crybaby. At times though I wanted to throw her out a window. Then I realized that I might not be keen on the idea of being a super hero who might get squished by ugly creatures. I wouldn’t be getting 30’s on test but I might be WAI when battle time comes.

No chocolate parfait? :(

My favorite subplot was Nephrite. Wished that loser lived. Because he seemed semi decent and because Naru loved him. But if you are a man in Sailor Moon and the enemy chances are you are going to die and stay dead. Sad face is sad. :( Okay maybe Naru fell in love way too quickly but I will blame that on the fact her energy was stolen a million times and she wasn’t thinking clearly.

Oh Ami....

Ami used to be my favorite soldier. But after a while she got a bit annoying with the studying jokes (throughout the series). Each season Ami would have a MOG am I only useful for my brains moment. Boring. I wish she has more substance. :(

Ghosts are super powerful!

The original ending is like 5876 times better than the American version (except the fighting song of course). The soldiers DIE. They aren’t captured. They are sticking up from giant blocks of ice, they being their dead bodies. Mamoru beating on Usagi was a bit hard to watch but it wasn’t him and made the scene more believable. I am not sure why they were reborn and her mother wasn’t but yay for the series continuing. I think the ending would have been better had they redo the opening scenes to make it seem like SOMETHING had happened in those past few months.

What happens to the wand?! X_X

Sailor Moon R

The first part of R was fillery which is fine. Most episodes were bearable. Silly aliens fighting over Mamoru and Usagi when they are in love with each other.

One of two episodes where Mamoru isn't a jerk. Enjoy.

Um is there really much to say about Eiru and An actually. They were kinda one note characters. We probably could have done with more Eiru but since these 13 episodes focused on Usagi trying to get Mamoru back they had to show An more. True love…right.

Usagi trying to win back the heart of a guy that was never hers is a bit X_X. True they were together in a past life but that doesn’t automatically mean they are meant to be together now. Especially by force. If they are meant to be together it would happen naturally. Not with Usagi going BE WITH ME NOW! I really can’t blame Mamoru for that (even though I can blame him for a lot of other things).

KILL IT WITH FIRE!

Chibi-Usa is the most annoying character in the series. A child should bring parents together not tear them apart. Or flirt with her future father. Gross. Also kid fail for not being able to recognize what her own parents look like. Bigger fail for trying to save the Silver Crystal in the past. Yeah that will help the situation.

Time for stabbings!!!

Mamoru was such a jerk in the second half of this season. Both of him. The best way to save your future wife and daughter is to make sure your daughter is never born at all? OH you meant to test them? Lies. You were testing Usagi you asshole and I hate you. She needed love and support to get through these tough times, not some jerk boyfriend who dumps her for no reason. And look Mamoru isn’t any help after he stops being a jerk and does nothing at the big battle. Yay for losers. I hate Mamoru.

So pretty....

I enjoyed most of the enemies in this season. Esmeraude was annoying but I could get by everyone else being saved. Actually I am pretty bummed Saphir died. :( The sisters living as humans is cool but I wish they would get cameos in later series. To see how they are doing and all. Berthier was my favorite.

The battle songs this season were much better than the first one. I do prefer the American ones again but this time they were tolerable.

I approve of this crown!

Going to the future and meeting Sailor Pluto was the climax of the season for me.
The battle with Wiseman was a bit MEH. Usagi finding out that someone also named Usagi was her daughter. I AM SHOCKED! But I did enjoy that part of the season. The battle was nice and lovely with the sparkly dresses and the not dying part. GO WINNERS!

Sailor Moon S

Best season out of series hands down! And I am not being biased with my undying love for Michuri. Overall the art was more on point, the battles seem more real, and the friends of the week were slightly more tolerable. Also because of Michuri.

At times I felt the season could have been a bit more opened minded on how to handle a lesbian couple. The girls were not very mature/kind with their words at times. Yes two women love each other! Get over it. Stop with the juvenile behavior. Then I remembered they were juveniles.

The reason behind attacking humans and creating friends of the week were the strongest in the season. Finding the talisman in pure hearts made sense. A bit ironic on who HAD the actual talismans but that is how this series goes.

Did I say coldness? I meant hotness!

I also enjoyed the coldness of Neptune and Uranus. Sailor Moon does have a “let’s save people no matter what” kinda attitude. And while it always manages to work out in the end that kind of thinking can be dangerous. Neptune and Uranus didn’t know that Sailor Moon farts out miracles. So I understand why they were all “rude” and dismissive of the other soldiers. But I also understand where the other soldiers were upset that they couldn’t come together as a group.

Hotaru, the girl of many faces...

I think Hotaru and her past/Sailor Saturn could have been developed more. Too much was focused on Hotaru being Chibi-Usa’s friend and not Hotaru as a person. I think her back story would have been interesting but no. Just a lone soldier and a girl who got blown up once.

Why does everything have to be about Chibi-Usa! She makes me want to pull my hair out. But now instead of trying to drive a wedge between the broken up Usagi and Mamoru she merely just provides some general annoyance. I guess it is weird that no one really takes the fact that Usagi is her mother but meh. MEH TO ALL OF CHIBI-USA!

Loving it!!!!

The ending was excellent. I loved the way Usagi kept hitting the ground demanding Moon Crisis Make-Up work. Even the parts where Uranus and Neptune were pissed off at Usagi for screwing the world I enjoyed. It matched the mood perfectly and set up the scene for a miracle. We didn’t get a battle song though. :(

Sailor Moon Super S

Worst season out of the series hands up. And I am being biased because of my undying hatred for Chibi-Usa. Seriously three seasons out of five have to have her as some sort of main character? WHY?! X_X

The mirrors/people’s dreams were kinda of annoying as friends of the week plot points. I don’t think that sentence made sense. But neither did the whole season so I match weeee. A human boy (well humanoid anyway) is about to die but before he does he sends his spirit in the form of a unicorn to a beautiful dream to find the golden crystal that is actually the horn on his head. Oh and that beautiful dream is that of a girl who wants to be an adult. Such a beautiful and unique dream…..

So super cute!

But I liked Helios. I wish he had been more Heliosish during the season and not that ugly unicorn. He was a super cute kid who needs hugs. A bit sad that he has to live alone from the rest of the world but Sailor Moon farts out miracles okay. If her princess daughter wants to marry this unicorn so be it!

Even though this season is the season of fail all the bad guys get to live! In the guys! Say it ain’t so!!!!! It’s a bit weird that Fish Eye, Tigers Eye, and Hawks Eye weren’t even healed humans but animals that got to be human permanently but whatever. They grew on me pretty fast (except Fish Eye’s ugly outfit of grossness) so I am glad they got to live. I think their change of heart came about pretty fast but meh. MEH I SAY! I do wish that we got to see them after they were reborn. I feel slightly screwed on that part.

Hottest and cutest!

Nehelenia is the hottest bad guy ever. Galaxia is super hot in her true form but that is not how she appears most of the time so I have decided that doesn’t count. Nehelenia might have had stupid reasons for being a bad guy (really, no one loved you beautiful princess so you ate everyone who cared for you? Sure that makes sense) but she was hot being stupid.

So….Zirconia was Nehelenia all old right? I totally believe that hot woman would turn into an ugly turtle like toad. I so believe it. And I so believe that Nehelenia was able to barf out the older version of herself on command and made this all happen. True facts.

Yes just vanish! We need not explanation!

I love that PallaPalla, VesVes, CereCere, and JunJun were treated awesomely in the anime. And by love I mean hate and by awesome I mean the manga went whoosh to the side line. Future Sailor Soldiers? Let’s never mention that. Annoying girls who did nothing all day? Yeah that sounds like fun! There was almost nothing redeeming about these girls so their change of hearts were pretty meaningless. I think more could have been done with them. And by more I mean something.

Yay for not going splat!

The final showdown part one was well done. Not really a battle per say but more of oh everyone is beaten and the bad guy is about to die but let’s watch Sailor Moon fling herself off a building to save her future kid. Okay maybe there was a battle with Usagi and Chibi-Usa using the golden crystal (oh hi Mamoru not doing anything AGAIN!) but the real ending was the falling to the sky scene.

The final showdown part two was more of let’s bring back all the other soldiers so we can start wrapping up the series. Of course Sailor Moon heals the main baddie like she usually does but that is to be expected. Sad sob story isn’t very sad or sob worthy but the art was pretty and so was Sailor Moon’s new attack. Baby Nehelenia was SUPER CUTE! I mean….SUPER CUTE!!!!! But yay battle? And good job Mamoru with you dying with some eyeball pain. I think we got some real Soldier bonding in this battle and Sailor Moon really worked instead of lying down and dying.

Sailor Moon Stars

This series could have been so much more. Or really I thought it was so much more all these years because I imagined the best. I mean it has girls pretending to boys and singing and an epic ending right?!

Only not. This season suffered from not enough time. Now with most series by the final season everyone is like MOG are we doing this again and are happy that there aren’t that many fillers. But when you break it down there wasn’t much meat to this season. The first 6 episodes were dedicated to finishing up the Super S arc. Now granted Galaxia was the one who woke up Nehelenia who would wake up Sailor Saturn so Galaxia could take her star seed (X_X sentence) but besides that tiny point this was really a continuation of Super S. Then the last 6 episodes of this season are dedicated to the final battle with Galaxia. Granted it is the final bad guy and the battle is broken up into chunks (someone dies, they leave, more people die, they leave) 6 episodes is a lot. X_X This leaves 22 episodes to introduce 3 new scouts, watch Usagi fall apart because Mamoru is gone, and find a Princess. And explain who Chibi Chibi is. And kill everyone off. And wrap things up when they all come back to life. Oh AND HAVE FUN.

So yeah. The season felt kind rushed and didn’t do a good job explaining some things. Like why Princess Kakyuu was hiding in the first place. Well okay she was hiding because Galaxia was after her. Why I don’t know because she isn’t a soldier in the anime (-__-) and she lasts about 5 seconds on screen before she is killed off first. Seriously the Lights spend all this time looking for her and she gets 7 minutes of air time before she kicks the bucket. But it is never explained why Galaxia fears Princess Kakyuu or why Princess Kakyuu knows where the Hope of Light is or why she was too stupid to realize that Chibi Chibi was that hope.

We don't need to see them studying for exams in Super S or actually taking the test. YAY FOR HIGH SCHOOL!

Another thing that was weak in this season was the crazy focus on the Starlights. Whom I love and adore because they (they being Yaten and Seiya) are awesome and because they made friends of the week turn into people who briefly were on screen of the week. But with all the focus on the Starlights I think the focus on true friendship was really lost. I mean I guess the girls started caring about Usagi once they found out Mamoru hadn’t written once…but it was a little too late for that now guys. Maybe if you weren’t joining fan clubs you would notice your friend hurting. And also what was up with them leaving Usagi out on purpose?! X_X

But at least the inner soldiers got some air time. Poor Naru got tossed aside, forgotten in the corner. :( Is her star seed not worthy of stealing?! All the bad guys have found Naru delicious before Stars. But noooooooooo! Usagi goes to high school and forgets all about her friend. I wonder if Naru even goes to the same school. The same story also goes for Umino but I don’t care about him. It is just a shame that Naru and Usagi were such good friends before and that is all but forgotten now. :(

Star Gentle Uterus. Seriously? SERIOUSLY?! I don’t know what is more insane, the actual attack or some fans defending the name of this attack. Tell me what this has to do with being a MAKER. Oh you can make babies in there? Awesome. Not buying it. Now this attack would have been funny had Taiki’s female voice not sucked ass. Could they have picked a worse voice actor? I seriously doubt it.

This season was GREAT because it didn’t have Mamoru in it HURRAY! Oh wait that made Usagi sad and lonely? Okay that was upsetting but it was for the greater good. Not that Seiya turned out to be a good match either (not being very nice, never played on sticking around anyway, and being friends with apparent moral enemies of the Sailor Soldiers) but I didn’t miss the cheesy outfit and the cheesy lines. So in the end Mamoru never helped out with a big boss. He was that useful.

I think we're alone now...(almost)

The Starlights had really, really horrible outfits. Like super horrible. Like I want to cry kinda bad. And their songs weren't really.....WOW! Just bleh to me. Very bleh. But I still love Seiya much more than Mamoru. Putting aside his princess/I am actually a girl deal he is a much better choice of Usagi. He is the one who sees the light before the other two thus we have to like him more. He is more enlighten for wanting to work together. Yaten is fine and Taiki can fall off a cliff.

Save me Sailor Moon!

The ending was pretty epic. I think that some of the material could have been cut down so we could have had more meat in our episodes leading up to the ending (really how many more times can Sailor Moon cry and someone throw themselves in front of the blast) but I still enjoyed it. Even though I spoiled the series for myself I must have forgotten that Galaxia had Chaos in her. Either way it was very moving her back story on her being the strongest and tried to save everyone else through sacrificing herself. I wish her unChaosed form was shown more as she is gorgeous but it is what it is.

I also don’t know why Usagi had to save Galaxia naked but meh. I did enjoy the wings and the sword. Yes they played an opening theme song instead of a battle song but what can you do at this point. I thought it was melodramatic that Usagi was crying when Galaxia flew away with all the other star seeds. Did she seriously think her friends were not coming back? Oh and hi Mamoru. So glad you came back. Next time punch the guy who hit on your girlfriend while you were dead.

Why weren't we around more?

This season didn’t have enough Michuri and Haruka. But since it had 100 percent more Michuri and Haruka than Super S YAY! At first I wasn’t really on board for Haruka’s over the top hate of the Starlights. I mean kettle meet kettle. Haven’t they learned by now anyone who is trying to help them (Tuxedo Mask, Chibi-Usa, Neptune, Uranus, Pegasus, and the Lights) REALLY is trying to help them? So yeah a lot of uncontrollable rage. But there were also some cute times. XD They really shined in the last battle, with fighting their own way. Typical Michuri and Haruka.

So we are closing in on 4000 words here. X_X I feel as if I have way more to say but I have said so much already. I want to talk about female dynamics, how this series started the magical girl genre (well sorta), and how love always conquers! But then my post would be epically long and it’s best to end things before people get too bored with myself.

Despite any criticism I wrote about this series I love it. For the good and for the bad I love Sailor Moon. It will always be my gateway anime/manga so it is special in that regards. But I truly think this series embodies what a really great anime should be about. Likeable REAL characters. Enemies who aren’t all evil and actually have reasons for their actions. A positive message. And the right about of cuteness without going to the sleazy side.

Sailor Moon isn’t perfect. But that’s why I love it. It makes me feel good and rage and roll my eyes. It is a great escape into a fantasy world yet the real life parts of the show touch at my heart.

As cheesy as this sounds I am glad Sailor Moon came into my life. It’s almost like my life has stood still when rewatching this series. Only now I don’t have to run home to catch the opening theme song.

Kobato Episode 20. Also known as THE BEST EPISODE EVER!

Kobato knows when she sees an excellent episode!

This is the best episode of Kobato EVER!

And I am not just saying that because Fai (and Kurogane and Syaoran and Mokona) was in the episode. The episode was fluffy and full of Kobato goodness and really embodied the spirit of this series.

Okay so it’s because Fai was in this episode.

TONS OF SCREENIES AWAIT YOU! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

Yes but how do you count MoKonas?

I would like to start off with….MoKona. Not Mocona!! I know I am not one to nitpick on people’s spelling but COME ON! Magic Knight Rayearth has been around since 1993! Tsubasa and XXXholic since 2003. That is a lot of years to learn how to spell one of CLAMP’s most popular mascots. MoKona!!! For serious people.

Also I would like to add that the art felt a little iffy for me. Some changes are to be expected since different artists are being used. Still…Kurogane looked like an old man at points. X_X What was with those drastic lines at times?! And Fai is much more beautiful than that. Syaoran…..looked like Syaoran to me so no complaints there. I also think Mokona is cuter but he was adorable in his little cape. Also you got off lucky artists! I noticed TWO fleshy hands on Kurogane. You are lucky that in XXXholics that got dealt with. LUCKY!

But putting aside the sometimes iffy art moments WOOHOO FOR FAI! And the rest of them. XD

I guess I will talk about this episode in order though. I am a responsible blogger after all and not some silly fangirl who can’t talk about the real issues/plot of the story. Even if Fai is awesome.

Why does my heart hurt when I think of Fujimoto MMMMMMMMM?!

Kobato is staring out at the sky trying to figure out why her heart was all achy when Fujimoto did his not really apology whatever that was. I would like to add as a side note that it is both humorous and sad that the manga is covering the EXACT same topic right now. Hilarious. Ioryogi was freezing his butt off and tried to put off the romantic mood. So the least romantic subject to talk about was Valentine’s Day woohoo!

Fujimoto...not yelling?! X_X

I will say that Fujimoto was 56 percent less of a butthead this episode. When Kobato came running up announcing they should have a Valentine’s party he didn’t shove it in her face she had no idea what a Valentine’s Day was. That was a prime opportunity to make fun of her and he almost let it slide! It was almost like he was trying to educate her instead of pick on her! It was amazing.

I am shocked and amazed!

It was also amazing that after Kobato explained her idea to work at the bakery to earn extra money Fujimoto wasn't completely ragey at the situation, like he was with the bazaar. This time his concern was for Kobato pushing herself too hard and he stayed away from the YOU WILL FAIL side of the argument. He was worried for Kobato and he almost let it show in front of Kobato and Sayaka when she brings it up later. Fujimoto must have heard how sad I was for Domoto to lose out and he stepped up to the plate. GOOD FOR YOU FUJIMOTO!

Kobato is so cute! XD

Kobato, being the kind person she is (and typical CLAMP heroine who doesn’t…desire anything materialist), has decided to work hard at the bakery to earn money for the Valentine’s Day party. Ueda and Yumi are happy to see that Kobato is more useful this time around. I also like how Ioryogi stays on the counter as Kobato works. Love cute mascots.

So while Kobato is helping close up the shop a bright light fills the alley. She goes to investigate and what does she find?! The Tsubasa boys ready and waiting for their adoring fans to cheer their marvelous return. Greet them warmly everyone!!!

Kurogane fail!

Our boys have become little slackers though. Unprepared for danger, letting Mokona talk in front of strangers, and generally being goofballs. But since my Tsubasa boys did have it pretty rough (especially my poor Fai) they deserve every single moment of happiness/silliness they can grab. And I love seeing the boys new clothes. LOVE!

What is under that hat....

Fai being Fai notices Kobato’s hat right away. He knows what is under her hat and that it’s not merely part of her uniform. Whatever Kobato is Fai deems her okay enough to sharing their traveling secrets and talking plushie. Of course what choice did they have at the time…

What is Kobato?! Tell me now!!!!

Fai also informed Ioryogi that he knows what Kobato is (in that annoying whisper whisper way because heaven forbid the viewers know what Kobato is before the last episode!!!). Ioryogi makes a face like this is shocking news that people with a space traveling talking stuffed animals could recognize a Kobato like creature. I wanted to say that Kobato is an angel but Fai said confidence, like whatever Kobato is her species/type is known for being confident? I am probably reading too much into that sentence but it caught my eye. Fai talks about how other world creatures can’t do anything but watch over her. Which to me means that they can’t intervene even though they sense she is a lovely…whatever she is. Fai was typical Fai. He knew what was going on with Kobato’s situation but didn’t tell the others and just smiled his typical smile. XD

Not at all....

XO Last week when I was being way too excited about this episode I wondered how they were going to manage the Ioryogi/Kurogane having the same voice actor. Instead of sweeping the issue under the rug the first thing out of Kobato’s mouth was IORYOGI?! It became the running joke for the episode. It also helps that one of the main themes in Tsubasa is meeting the same people over and over again in different worlds. Technically Ioryogi is the Kurogane of the Spirit world but details details. I thought it was well played.

Real cozy....

Kobato being Kobato she really doesn’t question why the boys are traveling or the talking stuffed animal they have or why everything seems magical. No she just ops to take them to a park so Fai can swing on the swings and Kurogane can beat on Mokona. Also so she can invite the men to stay with her, putting aside the fact that her room is barely big enough for her and these are complete strangers. The fact that they are all boys isn’t lost on Syaoran but Fai shoos the issue away and off they go.

Yeah bro....

As luck would have it Kobato doesn’t have work at the nursery the next day. This sets it up so Syaoran can work with her at the bakery. This made me sad as I wanted to see more of Fai. Fai worked in a bakery before but suddenly Syaoran has good hands or something? Psht whatever. I guess Syaoran is a bit lonely since he and Sakura used to get paired up all the time. He needs to spend time with someone like Sakura so he can continue his journey without tears. That and it forces Fai and Kurogane to work together again! XD The episode didn’t explain where the men went to work but that’s fine. I can imagine the best then! Mokona joins Ioryogi as a temporary bakery mascot.

This is very serious business!

Syaoran and Kobato spend a nice day together. Syaoran was a real help at the store and taught Kobato the easiest task in the world. The writers decided to torture us Tsubasa fans though with the very vague explanation on why the boys are traveling (aka to get back….THEM) but at least Sakura almost got a mention? The point of this conversation was for Kobato to bring up her own wish, to go somewhere else. Syaoran takes as to mean that Kobato wants to go somewhere to be with a certain someone. But the point of the Syaoran conversation was to remind Kobato of her original wish and how she may have feelings for Fujimoto. I know you catch on slow Kobato but you don’t have much time to figure things out!

Why are you leaving already?!

It makes me sad that the boys weren’t there for very long. Especially given what their mission actually is. How are they supposed to gather information if they can only stay in a world for 24 hours?! X_X However the group must leave and Kobato is sad she can’t do more for these people. I doubt she earned any candy from this episode but that’s okay too. Sometimes you just help out people because that is the right thing to do. That and can you really heal people who have survived Tsubasa? Watching the Mokona magic travel was cool though. XD

AWWWW!

Kobato is able to put on a nice party with the money she earned and all is a success. XD For some reason Fujimoto is surprised. Or worried that she worked too hard to make that money. Another sign at the dramatic switch between jerk Fujimoto and appropriate match for Kobato Fujimoto. My poor Kobato was unable to make a chocolate to save her life but the kids still ask who she is going to give her best chocolate to. Insert Kobato looking up at Fujimoto but he is already staring at her. Everyone say AWWW!

Stay out of my awesome episode sadness!

However this episode does not end on an AWWW note. Ioryogi senses a presence and goes outside. There a messenger bunny appears and tells Ioryogi something. We don’t know what but I am sure it is along the line of YOU ARE SCREWED and you have no time left at all. She was told until Spring right (or am I getting the manga mixed up with the anime?)? So if it’s Valentine’s Day spring is around the corner. X_X She better decide what she is doing before time is up and she won’t have the option of making a decision.

The sadness can wait until next week though. This week we got Fai. I shall squeal and be happy. Be happy with me! Oh praise CLAMP and their crossover ways. Without them I wouldn't have gotten to see Fai in his sexy new traveling outfit. How fortunate am I! XD

Next week I will worry about Kobato and her impending doom. Promise.

This is a side note after the fact but why didn’t the Tsubasa boys visit Watanuki? X_X

To Aru Kagaku no Railgun Episode 21

Boo at this post being so late. I complained so much about those fillery episodes and I was able to post them in a timely manner. :( Quick let me think of a way that this is not my fault!!

Did Tenchi forget about us?!

But here is my post, lateness and all. XD On a sad note this series is going to end in 3 episodes. Which makes the numerous episodes about small part characters even more frustrating that time was wasted on non important plot related stuff. That sentence was special. X_X In any event I shall miss this series despite the RARWness I felt at times.

We have three episodes before we have to think about all that sadness. Let’s finally talk about episode 21 and how Uiharu is trying to compete with Kuroko for the most annoying character in To Aru Kagaku no Railgun. Spoilers and extreme wtfness will follow.





Let’s start off with a phrase we all know and love: I was wrong. I feel as if I have said those words a lot on this blog. And instead of feeling stupid I shall laugh at myself. How many times can one person be wrong? Really it is like a sport for me at this point.

The source of my never ending wrongness.

So what was I wrong about this time? Well I was under the impression that Haruue was the kid that Harumi was all boohooing and sad about. The kid that got most of her brains splattered out during the experiment gone wrong. The identical necklaces threw me off. That and I thought it would be ironic if Harumi was fighting so hard to bring those kids back when all along Telestina was using them in a different experiment. Cruel but possible.

Yes! THAT KID!!!

None of this matters as Haruue is not that kid. She is friends with said kid (named Banri btw, I hope Harumi didn’t mention it before or I will feel stupid) and she is looking for her. Which might explain why Haruue can’t find her friend as she is in a coma somewhere. Or maybe she is being used by Telestina (a more likely scenario) and thus Telestina won’t let her be found. Apparently Banri likes to hand out friendship necklaces as Haruue and Harumi both have them.

I guess I really can’t blame myself for being confused. I can go the whole all characters in a certain series look alike to a certain extent route. But I think I will focus more on how Harumi was acting all sad when Haruue was having her attacks way. It makes sense that I was confused and wrong. Again.

Right Uiharu. It is crazy talk to suspect Haruue.

In light of my wrongness I will tread lightly in speculating what will happen next. Haruue is a level 2 telepathic who can’t possibly be behind the Poltergeist phenomenon. But Haruue has shown in the past and in this episode that she is capable of a much higher power level. So is Haruue’s power categorized wrong (which has also happened before) or is Banri feeding power to her? Are these Banri’s powers reaching out for help or Banri’s powers being used by Telestina?

See if I frame this all in question form I can’t be wrong when they don’t happen. XD Yay logic. It’s much easier to focus on these questions instead of trying to map out what AIM fields and RSPK have to do with Telestina. If I try to think about the “science” part of this show too hard what little understanding I do have of those concepts might melt away in my brain.

But I do think Telestina fails Bad Guy 101. If she is a bad guy of course and not some poor misunderstood soul like every other bad guy in this specific universe. In any event yeah…that was some fail. Let’s gather up all the girls who seem to run around and ruin master plans and tell them more than they need to know. Didn’t she learn anything from Harumi? But I do approve of her collecting cute things. Just because you are an adult doesn’t mean you stop losing interest in certain things.

Ms. Level Two needs to learn her place.

Uiharu was a brat this week. She met Haruue like two minutes ago and already she is against Kuroko making sure their city doesn’t get leveled because of this new girl? Loser. But given the nature of this show, that these girls have barely known each other and were super close after the first episode, I guess that is to be expected. But it is still annoying. I think it is Kuroko’s job (oh yours too Uiharu!!!) to investigate weird things. And if Haruue started acting weird the moment something X_X happened the two might be connected. Now if you aren’t adult enough to separate friendship and serious real life work get out of Judgment. Even though I don’t think you ever belonged there anyway.

No apologizes! Just get your work done.

Is it a miracle that Kuroko was being serious and actually getting work done? Should I start carrying an umbrella in case the sky starts to fall? But don’t give in to Uiharu’s little tantrum. Don’t say sorry to her wrong self and keep on doing what you think needs to be done.

Misaka. SHINE MORE!!!! I know you are going to kick butt in the final episode but don’t get pushed aside!

Saten….I need to see more of you period. :( I forgive you for being Uiharu’s friend for some reason but I’m not sure why. But I love you.

So that is about it. There wasn’t too much going on in this episode. Haruue had another meltdown which leads Misaka and Kuroko investigating her past. Uiharu becomes closer to Haruue and continues to whine about how she used to be a loser too or something. And Telestina puts herself into bad guy position. But I guess the biggest drama of all was finding out that Haruue is only the friend of the girl who went splat, not the splattee.

I still hate the term Child Error by the way! Don't overdo it with that phrase next week okay?

Winter Olympics 2010: the good, the bad, and the sparkly!

Sometimes I am a liar. But this time I really didn’t mean to be. XD Last month I said that I would do a Movie Month post each month. And truly I had plans to do that.

But…..what with the Olympics being on my time was really cut short this month. That and I am 75 percent done with Sailor Moon. I thought that goal would take much longer to accomplish but nopers! Besides the Olympics only a few reality shows got my attention. Otherwise it was Sailor Moon.

So….yeah. No movie post this month. I did watch a few movies but most of them I had already seen so it wasn’t going to be my first impressions I would be writing. The drama/newness was lost so they don’t count. That means there are like 2 movies this month and that isn’t much of a post.

Instead of a movie post I shall dedicate this post to what really ate up my time in February: The Olympics!!! Sure they are over but that is best time to talk about something. That way you have a more rounded view of the event/topic. So enjoy my views on the highs and lows of the 2010 Winter Olympics.

Also I promise that my To Aru Kagaku no Railgun episode 21 post will be up tomorrow. Slacker Tenchi is slacking. Side note I thought there was 26 episodes in To Aru Kagaku no Railgun…….

The opening ceremony was pretty cool. Yes nothing will ever compare to the Summer 2008 Olympics unless they involve space, a talking unicorn, and The Terminator. So there is no point in saying MOG the Summer Olympics were better. I will just judge the 2010 Winter Olympics opening ceremony on their own merits. Not a fan of all the singing. Less singing more over the top costumes! That being said I didn’t see the big deal in the fact that there was a tiny problem with the 4th arm not coming up during the torch lightening ceremony. Machines break down and mistakes happen. The fact that commentators kept harping on it every day for the past few weeks and it was referred to as one of the great failures of the Olympics made me laugh/roll my eyes. I enjoyed the portions of the show that had to do with Canada’s Native population. That of course is putting aside how much of that was just putting on a good face and how those people are really treated. But that is the way the Olympics are right, putting on happy faces when staring your “enemies” in the eye pretending all is well.

The death of Olympic luger Nodar Kumaritashvili was horrible. Word has it that the course was made too fast on purpose which is automatic fail. I get pushing people to their limit but not at the expense of people’s lives. There is also word that Canada didn’t allow other countries many run-throughs before the Olympics. Not that ample practice or a slightly safer course (really, when you are going down a track with no protection at all does it matter if it’s 80 miles an hour or 90?) would have saved that young man. It is an overall sad situation and when sad situations happen people tend to play the what if game. Just a tragedy and a sad way to start off the Olympics.

The sport that got me screaming and cheering the most was speed skating. And booing the most of course. It is amazing how the Olympics make you an expert on a sport you don’t think about except during the Olympics. And how suddenly you find out you have rivals that you didn’t know you had! I am speaking of the Koreans of course. XD I am such a brat of course, booing people who are just trying to win like we are. Although I do think that NO ONE should be touching anyone on the field, whether it be our guys or theirs. That way it clears up any disputes and what not.

Glad everyone is okay but YAY for winning!

My favorite speed skating race would be the one where Apolo Ohno was going to be left off the podium all together and the Koreans were going to sweep the medals. I believe this race was either on the first day or two of the Olympics. The commentators were all going on about how the Koreans were pissy that Ohno got a medal in the previous Olympics that really should have been theirs and now all of South Korea hates Ohno. That and they were really playing up J.R. Celski’s injury and how he is the comeback kid. So my heart was sinking the entire race as all the Koreans buddle together and were going to win all three medals. Then it happens. CRASH. One Korean takes out another and both Ohno and Celski get a medal. It was really a WOW moment. Loved the 15 instant replays that came on afterwards too.

:( So frustrating. :(

Of course the saddest moment is when Ohno disqualified himself in his last individual race. *sigh* I don’t think his touch pushed that guy over but touching got the U.S. women a group medal so I can’t like something when it works for me and dislike it when it works for someone else. If he hadn’t had that hand there the other skater that took himself out on his own would have still crashed and Ohno would have had a medal. Sad face is sad. :( But he still has a lot to be proud of no doubt.

Yeah removing the brown skin will totally make this less fail. Go for it.

I don’t have words to describe the Russian ice dancing pair’s costumes. Well I do but they are all naughty and unladylike. While I am not one to cry about all the cultural appropriation in that event/the world there is a difference between respectful portraying a culture and being borderline racist. You two….whatevers were in the land of OH HAI RACISM. They were told before how awful and racist their costumes were before and all they did was remove the brown skin tone from the costumes. But apparently Aboriginal dance now includes hair pulling, butt shaking, and violence. Stay classy Russia.

The figure skating pair of Zhao Hongbo and Shen Xue nearly brought me to tears. Yeah I want my country to win all the medals but a sad back story always gets me going. They truly deserved this medal and they can retire knowing they are best. Good for them.

Yeah. I am sure this is not the most shocking costume ever in this sport. Compared to the other costumes in his event it's pretty tame.

Dear Johnny Weir I am sorry that some people are assholes. Seriously I am. I am not sure what sport they thought they were judging but figure skating has never been a very masculine sport. This is the sport where everyone is wearing tights and sparkly costumes. Not that there is anything wrong about that but it is stupid to call you out on your costume when everyone else is just as sparkly as you. But since you are gay your sparkles are evil or something. I am not going to argue whether or not you were robbed of a medal as I am not an expert on figure skating. But I will call out those who think you have to take a gender test, that it’s a bad thing if little boys turn out like you, and that you make a mockery of this sport. They have no right to judge you like that and need to talk about your performance and not stupid crap like that. You are taking the high road and not bashing these homophobes like they deserve. Keep on being who you are and know that people were not amused by their words. Love someone who had no idea who you were before the games but loves your style.

I wasn’t really cheering one way or another on who won the hockey game. Again it would be nice if my home country one the medal (one we haven’t won in a very long time) but it was a good game. Not understanding the criticism behind the way the Canadian women celebrating their victory but whatever. Go winners and silver is pretty good too.

I think with most sports there was a clear American favorite and that pushed aside the other Americans that were in the same sport. As much as I love Apolo Ohno Shani Davis was pretty amazing too and he got way less coverage. The same could be said for any skier that wasn’t named Lindsey Vonn. I know we all have our favorites and it is easier to follow people who been in the Olympics before. But legends won’t be born if we keep following the same people.

The closing ceremonies were kinda boring. Again too much singing. But the closing ceremonies are never as grand as the opening ceremonies. Someone said that opening ceremonies are more a presentation and the closing ceremonies are more of a party. That is really the truth. But I did like how they played up on the torch leg being broken. Cute.

So that is a very brief overview on my take of the last two weeks. I watched a lot of different events and found myself cheering for people I never even knew of until that event. I gasped at all the crashes and cheered when (most) everyone won. It’s sad that we won’t get to experience that same excitement for two more years but the wait is worth it. In the meantime…GO TEAM U.S.A!!!!!
