I am sorta scared to look and see how many more episodes I am actually behind on. I am thinking that Vampire Brothers Who Suck will be put on the super back burner as everyone had really negative things to say about that show. But I must get caught up on the other 4 shows I am watching this season at least.
Like Nancy from Nightmare on Elm Street my eyes grow tired. Hopefully I won't be slashed in my dreams. Up now is a NEW anime series. I think this show might have started earlier than the rest? Does that mean I am the most behind on it? Machine Doll wa Kizutsukanai episode 1 is here...finally! Thought I posted it before the trip. Spoilers for perverted dolls and the boy who owns it.
Fighting along side his robot I see.
Episode Summary: Aboard a train a young girl keeps whispering various love phrases into a boy's ear. The boy (Raishin) eventually wakes up and tells Yaya to quit. The pair has sparked interest of a young girl traveling with her mom. They are all on a train heading to a massive city, home to the birth place of robots/magic to control them. Yaya is trying to get Raishin to fall in love with her and it is ending badly. Raishin is more focused on the task at hand, which is attending a special school. Yaya tries to talk about sexy things and is upset at the constant mention of Youko. Something goes wrong on the train. It misses it's train station stop and is accelerating to a stop with a giant brick wall or something equally as upsetting. There is a panic but Raishin orders Yaya to pull all the breaks. Yaya and her ridiculous shoes jump from car to car pulling all the breaks but nothing seems to stop the train. Raishin joins Yaya outside and decides they need to stop the train from the front. They super jump all over the place and scale bridges to reach the front of the train. Yaya holds the train back while Raishin chants some spells powering Yaya up. She manages to sorta stop the train, slightly derailing it. The young girl asks Raishin if he is a mage but Raishin says he is a puppeteer. Her mother realizes that Yaya is a robot. The pair are impressed until Yaya tries getting sexual with Raishin. Raishin tells Yaya to stop acting like that in public as they make their way to the grand school. Raishin says once they enter they won't be able to leave for a while. Yaya agrees this is fine because all she wants is to be with Raishin.
You ready for this school?
Yaya waits in a hallway as Raishin takes a placement test. He returns from the room having placed second to last in the entire school. Yaya tries to cheer Raishin up. All he wants is his revenge, surely he can improve. The woman who gave Raishin the test emerges from the room as ell, still not impressed with Raishin and slightly upset she is his homeroom teacher. She briefly explains what this school is about, training those to use puppets better. That many go on to be used in the military. She asks Raishin what his goal is and he states he wants to attend the special “party” the school holds. The woman (Kimberly) explains the party is for the top 100 students and is basically a free for all fight to crown the best puppeteer. She asks if Raishin is seeking fame and fortune but it is clear by his attitude he wants neither but will gain both. Kimberly has her doubts Raishin can earn enough qualification but wishes him luck anyway. Raishin attempts to find his dorm room but runs into a rude girl named Charlotte. Eventually he finds his room and tries to adjust to his life on campus. Yaya tries to adjust herself on Raishin's penis but he is too busy thinking about his status. The next morning Charlotte is being avoided by the majority of the students. Her puppet dragon Sigmund explains why everyone thinks she is scary. Charlotte is like I don't need any friends, we are all enemies at this school.
I want your points top ranker!
Raishin walks up and says he wants a battle. Charlotte basically calls him a jerk 19 times but agrees to wipe the floor with him. A small crowd gathers as the Asian Boy is going up against the best in the school. Sigmund dragon transforms into this huge creature and he and Yaya start going at it. The fight has barely started when tons of other puppets start attacking Charlotte. The boys are mad at Raishin for taking the planned day of attack. Raishin basically calls all the boys cowards. Charlotte uses Sigmund to attack all these new puppets but she really is outnumbered. Yaya and Raishin start attacking all the other puppets in a weird way. Raishin had started saying a chant while he was attacking Charlotte but he finishes it now. This seems to make Raishin and Yaya go super fast. They attack super slow but in real time it's fast if that makes sense. They finish off most of the puppets and Charlotte is able to help. One of the boys knocks Charlotte off her dragon but Raishin catches her. Another boy attacks Raishin directly but he is able to protect himself. The boys are all defeated. Charlotte wants to continue her fight with Raishin but Raishin declines. Charlotte calls Raishin a coward but Mr. Dragon Sigmund points out that Raishin noticed he was injured. Sigmund requests he rest for a few days. That night Yaya tries to snuggle with Raishin so she can recover faster. Raishin allows for brief sharing of the same bed. He lays there thinking about what he is going to do at this school. Outside it appears someone's robot is attacked by something. The next day Charlotte is like...why are you bitches sitting at my table? Raishin and Yaya are eating away. Charlotte demands Raishin pay her back for the food since he forgot his wallet. Charlotte actually wants Raishin to sit somewhere else as everyone is starting at them. As Raishin is eating he sees a badly dressed man and his badly dressed hoes walking down the sidewalk. He is full of rage and memories at that man who killed someone close to him. He orders Yaya to attack. She bursts through the window as Charlotte says Raishin will never win in a panic state. THE END!!!!
Look how much fun episode 2 is going to be weee!
So....that was interesting. Pretty art and...maybe different. Not too much was explained though. I mean I think the synopsis did a better job of explaining the basic principals. But that really doesn't help anyone. I think episode 1's should help set the foundation of the series. Not explain everything but give you an idea of what to expect.
What an interesting outfit she is wearing....
What I am expecting with this show is a bit of fanservice. Which I knew going in. If you are mentally prepared for these things you can handle them better. If it stays at this level I think I will be okay. I mean...it could be a total naked fest since these are robots. People are perverts. While I understand this is to sell anime I wish companies wouldn't be such sell outs. Like Americans and their obsession with cars exploding when they hit anything. Yaya's schtick might get old and I think she made a joke 2 too many times. But yeah...for now this is an acceptable level of pervness. We start seeing machines looking all Queen's Blade and we will have some problems.
Yaya wants to use Raishin's tool I think.
Perhaps the closeness between Yaya and Raishin will be explained? Why she feels this way anyway. Most robots have to be programmed yes? Although in anime ships can have personalities and robots can marry people. Maybe Yaya is just the most special robot ever. Or they feed off their master's mana AND feelings. Towards the end of the episode, when Raishin is having harsh feelings towards Magnus it looks like Magnus killed someone Raishin was close to. And that person looked like Yaya does. So maybe Yaya is just reacting to these feelings. You know, if the dead girl Yaya is based on isn't Raishin's sister. Just a bit creepy.
Same world, different path?
From what I have gathered this is a universe not in the future, but maybe an alternate timeline? Like Full Metal Alchemist. We got trains as a major transportation system and Raishin being from the East is so rare. The Japanese puppeteer!!!! I mean it could be the post apocalyptic future and Asia got wiped out. But yeah it seems like it isn't set in the here or future. We get magic instead of...was it nuclear power? I have never really seen Full Metal Alchemist.....
That seems self explanatory.
Anyway there is a major difference in this world. It SEEMS to be new. Since proper explanation didn't take place I am not sure how new this discovery is. Seems new to me, the way some people were reacting. If this ability was old more people would have been able to stop the train. Like the train station itself would have workers with puppets to help out. Also given the “models” outside the train station means to me robots themselves aren't that new, just the technology to man them is. I could be wrong though. It does happen 99 percent of the time.
Who cares about robots, I got things to do!
Given how many students are in the school I am guessing it might be a newer...thing. You know, to keep the cast young. Only people born after such date have the gene mutation/manipulation to....well hat is it? I assumed it was the ability to control robots. Like Angelic Layer but with larger/skankier robots. But when the train started to get out of control Raishin leapt into action. Raishin also fought against several classmates later in the episode. Yaya did state a robot's power/healing ability comes from a master's closeness. But what exactly is going on? They said magic. Well the little girl asked Raishin if he was a mage. He said no, a puppeteer. So there must be a difference. Yaya did say mana which means magic. I could see lifeforce, like we can make machines and if you dream it, it can happen. But Raishin himself was jumping around and being amazing. What exactly is it then?
Err...at least you got in.
No clear answers for now it seems. What we do know is Raishin is going to a school for puppeteers. They can be used as military weapons yet clearly not everyone has one. Only certain people as the train nearly crashed. And as amazing as Raishin looked...he is second to last in that school. A school with over 1,500 students. So yeah...there must be more to this magic robot nonsense then we think. I did notice a was outside during the test. If puppeteers fight with their puppets how can you tell who is powerful without them? I mean clearly Raishin will come up on top as the most amazing puppeteer ever because his desire will trump actual abilities. Still...how did this test take place without Yaya?
Dramatic way of looking at life weee!
Either way welcome to the school. Even the suckiest student is still better than regular folk right? I am above everyone weeeee. Surely anyone at this school has a bright future. But Raishin is aiming for the top. The super top. The top 100 students get invited to a party. A party that sounds more like the Hunger Games but with cake....details! All these 100 students will fight to be the top dog. But clearly that's not what Raishin wants as his super blunt homeroom teacher Kimberly states. A certain person will be at this party, someone Raishin wants revenge on. Yaya tries to lighten the mood by saying this person is all Raishin talks about but...yeah. Hatred. Kimberly doesn't seem to think Raishin can do it. Can't blame her really. I am sure whatever is causing Raishin's score is mental. Like you are so focused on revenge you can't reach your potential. Or maybe he doesn't have enough mana. Either way this is going to be a long road to the top.
This will be a piece of cake. XD
Or....or...Raishin can challenge the top person at the school on the first day. Like forget homeroom, it's battle time! The way Kimberly explained it one does not simply earn a better rank through grades and battles. Well it is battles but it is more like on a point system. What was the word? Qualification? Yes I think. The higher rank you are the more qualifications you have, more to “steal” if you win. And instead of challenging...you know...the weakest person in the school to get a feel for system Raishin decides nope. I am going to go to the top. Not sure how many points one loses/earns in each fight. Could Raishin have lost all his points the first day?
A real people person.
Enter Charlotte. According to her robot Sigmund she is a real delight to work with. Everyone fears her and she is on top for a reason. Friends are for chumps. I mean...I guess I can understand her thinking. Don't want to get close to people. They might be your “enemy” one day and use your tactics against you. But how lonely must that be? Maybe part of it is for protection. Or not. She was rude to Raishin five seconds after meeting him.
Thanks for waiting your turn!
These battles seem to be um......not regulated. I was going to say one on one battles but since that isn't the case...battles. Raishin was like battle me and so it was. Does anyone get a choice in the matter? I would have been like punk I ain't got time for you. Charlotte decided to take him on though. With a lot of trash talking. Okay maybe she is just a jerk....
I can't hurt an injured dragon yo.
I am not sure why Raishin got such a low rank. It appeared he was doing well on his own, against the strongest person in the school. Is it the fact that he fights along side Yaya? Perhaps he can't keep that pace up for long. He can only move super fast for a short time. But he was doing a good job against Charlotte. I am sure she would have won outright had...you know....half the school not attacked her. It's a battle free for all folks. There needs to be rules guys. You could be in the bathroom and get attacked? I think not. Charlotte should call those toads cowards, not Raishin who helped her and realized it wouldn't be a fair battle since Sigmund got injured. Yaya appears to be strong and I didn't see anyone else fighting with their puppets. Maybe Raishin is special.
How about you leave now punk?!
Charlotte and Raishin are best friends now, didn't you know? Charlotte is so thrilled. I am not sure why Raishin has decided to sit next to her. Like I respect you as a competitor so I will sit with you? Charlotte seems ticked that she has to sit with the lowest (okay second lowest) ranking kid in school. Not trying to be elitist but I can see how that might be an issue. Like don't use me to gain fame. Perhaps Charlotte with educate Raishin...nicely. Heal up little dragon.
MY SWORN ENEMY!
The episode ends with Raishin losing his mind. The reason why he is at this school, his revenge, walks by. Mangus is a sad fashion victim, along with having two fashion victim friends/slaves/robots. And Raishin wastes no time making Yaya flying through the window to attack him. This will probably end badly. Like super badly. There doesn't seem like there are a lot of rules to battling but I think fighting the head honcho is a giant no/no. For various reasons but mainly because you have to earn that right. Raishin is set on revenge though as it appears (for now) Mangus killed someone close to him, the girl Yaya is based on. Charlotte warned him...so it will end badly and as Raishin recovers we will learn more about this world right? From Charlotte as she tends to Raishin's wounds? I guess we will wait and see.....
