Well. That was interesting.
I am sure if I didn’t have boobs it would be more interesting. But I do so it wasn’t. Sad face is sad.
With that said it is only episode 2. Maybe they are still feeling out the characters and trying to add in some back story/fun times before things get all serious. Or…this really could be what the show is about and the opening theme song is a LIE.
So if my starter hasn’t scared you off yet click to read my summary and review about this still new season/series. I will try to keep the anger/confusion to a minimum.
The episode starts off with Misaka chasing Touma down the street. She corners him in an alley and he looks slightly nervous. The next thing you know Uiharu and Saten are talking to Misaka and the alley is a bit toasty. Kuroko is back at the school with her naked self getting ready to celebrate her anniversary with Misaka. Apparently this means skanky underwear and flowers on the bed. She puts on a sexy pose as the door open and Misaka walks in with Saten and Uiharu. Kuroko’s plans are ruined and she cries in despair. Saten and Uiharu look around the room in awe as this is a fancy school. Saten decides that when you are a new friend’s place you should go through all their personal stuff. She discovers Kuroko’s stash of skanky panties and Misaka’s boring ones.
After that fun and personal adventure the girls then look through Misaka’s photo album. She was a cute and normal child which surprises the group. Kuroko’s photo album contains peep shots of Misaka. That doesn’t go over well. Misaka starts to ignore Kuroko and talks to Saten and Uiharu about how it’s been a week since they became friends and isn’t everything grand. Except for Kuroko who is depressed that no one is celebrating the day the red strong of fate tied her and Misaka together. Even though Kuroko is crying and trying to get sympathy out of the group Misaka brings up the fact that there was no red string of fate and Kuroko became her roommate by force not chance. When a pervert package comes for Kuroko the tension reaches a new level. Both girls end up in the hallway using their powers. The dorm room adviser walks by and it is punishment time. Both girls are made to clean up a huge swimming pool for the school. Misaka complains while Kuroko plots a way to be with her beloved. The package she received earlier contained some kind of aphrodisiac and she has put some in her water bottle. Poor Misaka is cleaning next to a psychopath.
Before she can go through with her evil plan a few of Kuroko’s classmates walk by. There is a brief introduction even though one of the girls remembers Misaka as she was saved by her from a group of thugs. Kuroko gets more jealous as the girls talk and Misaka accepts one of the girl’s water bottle and offer to help clean up the pool. After witnessing all of this Kuroko becomes calm and depressed. Misaka isn’t exactly…sympathetic. But she thinks back to how when Kuroko did sneak into her room and they were punished just like this a month ago. Misaka gives Kuroko a present, the reason she was out with Uiharu and Saten. Kuroko is overjoyed and Misaka pledges that they will be together forever. They toast to their love and friendship and then Kuroko realizes she just drank her own poisoned water. Kuroko’s friends from earlier return to find Kuroko has stole Misaka’s underwear and is rejoicing at the fact they are wearing a matching set. Kuroko happily takes her beating as her friends slowly walk away from the craziness. The end.
Let’s start with Kuroko because…I hate her. I hate men/boys who act like this, the whole panty perverted issue so it’s obvious I would hate Kuroko for the same reasons. It is only fair. While these types of characters may have other traits that are much more positive it is hard to see those characteristics when you have a drooling boob grabbing scene 5 minutes later.
I thought maybe that it would be slightly different with Kuroko. That she and Misaka have been friends forever and that she cares for her on a really deep level…and is a giant pervert too. That these girls have been friends forever and Misaka is use to Kuroko’s crazy behavior. But no. Kuroko and Misaka have known each other for a month.
Well or at least Misaka has known Kuroko for a month. Everyone in Academy City knows of the famous Level 5 awesome girl. They just don’t know her. So Kuroko developed her crazy crush feelings from afar and rigged it so that she and Misaka would become roommates at her school. This episode takes place 1 month after they became roommates. Episode 1 takes place 3 weeks after they became roommates. Are you seeing the problem?
Of course I always could be wrong and Misaka and Kuroko were schoolmates/familiar with each other before the roommate situation came about. But I don’t think I am wrong. I really do think all these crazy people have known each other for less than 30 days and are acting this close. Maybe it is a cultural difference thing but I seriously can’t understand such a strong friendship after a short amount of time.
Since I am a fan of reality shows I am use to people acting like crazy people and having close friendships after just 3 days. They claim they are best friends on the show and won’t vote each other out and spend every waking moment together. I do understand that type of relationship to an extent. When you are in a situation where you only have a select number of people to talk to you will seek out the person who annoys you the least and you spend a lot of time together. So it’s not really a best friend per say but a best friend given the situation. I think that most contestants of reality shows know the difference.
These girls in To Aru Kagaku no Railgun are not like reality show contestants. These girls really do think they are going to spend the rest of their lives together. Misaka actually said that and I nearly choked on my dinner. I would expect Kuroko to say something so stupid but not Misaka. Where is your common sense Misaka? Spending a month with a crazy person makes you crazy now? Given how much pressure high school kids in Japan are under to bond with their peers maybe this line of thinking isn’t quite as insane as I thought it was. But it is still a little fake to see such closeness after only a few weeks. Real friendships take months and years to be made. They must be earned, not given due to circumstances beyond your control.
Of course you can argue that most friendships are formed very fast in animes. Episode one a few characters are thrown together and as the episodes go by they pick up new members of whatever organization/magical girl/school group they belong to. And most of the time they act like they have been friends for a lot longer than the anime’s starting point. But most of the time they don’t make a big deal about 1 month anniversaries! Or talk about how they are going to spend the rest of their lives together after knowing each other for 30 days. Just bleh. I think I talked this topic to death, moving on.
Most of this episode was just one perverted moment after another. I think it makes it worse knowing these kids are junior high kids (or at least I think they are). At least the perverted boys are nearing 17. But Kuroko and her sexy underwear/flower petal self is probably around 14. Three years makes a difference people.
But I guess the main reason this episode was not meant for me was the sheer amount of underwear in it. Kuroko and her sexy getup on the bed, Saten looking at the sexy underwear under the bed, and Saten looking at Uihara’s panties to calm down. Each event was a WTF moment and weren’t exactly funny. I guess to a guy it would be but to me I am not understanding how a pair of panties is funny or can be used as a calming tool.
Not to mention the art this week seemed really off. I can really only compare it to Sailor Moon. One episode Sailor Moon would have beautiful art and the next week it was like the C team came in and did the entire episode. The eyes and angles on the faces were what drove me nuts. It just seemed off and made the episode that much more X_X.
While this episode had a lot of negatives for me there were moments that were enjoyable. I liked the whole Kuroko and Misaka cleaning the pool together. There Kuroko’s perverted naughty was toned down a bit making her more tolerable. And while I thought Saten hunting down panties and looking at panties was weird her exploring the room was kinda cute in a nosy way.
Oh and YAY for that slight bit of Touma action we got. XD So maybe both series take place side by side or Railgun happens right before Index. No matter what the case may be I was happy to see Touma. And I was happy to see Misaka acting like her crazy self while she attacked him for no reason.
I am a bit disappointed in this episode. But since it is only the second one and I know that the original turned out interesting I am going to keep on watching. Surely something dangerous has to happen sooner or later. It won’t all be Kuroko and panties right? Right?

kinda agree that im not fancied with perverted fangirl/fanboy like kuroko, but they are essential for comedy effect. just dont overdo it and take it to the extreme level then it shall be fine. the pantsu stealing scene is a win for kuroko for getting us a flustering and underwear-less mikot ^^
Blacksun88- XO I never noticed how small those screenies looked until just now.
I kinda wish that perverted fangirls/fanboys like Kuroko weren't necessary in animes. But I guess the writers/directors are trying to cater to all audiences and need to drag in the panty shots/pretend yuri to capture that audience.
Poor Railgun and her "unsexy underwear".
