Shin Sekai Yori episode 11

Post number three WEEEE! I am sorta tired though. And hungry. Can't decide which I rather do. I should blog more though to get caught up. I always say more tomorrow, I will do it tomorrow but then tomorrow comes and things never get done. HMMMM maybe someone should come over and make me some noms?

Glad everyone just accepts the craziness that is all around them.
Since inviting strangers to my house to make noms might be a bad idea...here is another post. Up now is Shin Sekai Yori episode 11. Spoilers for Shun...wait what Shun?

HMMM I thought Satoru would have gotten praise too since the crazy guy talked to him last time.
Episode Summary: Saki seems to be going about her everyday life at school. Hanging out with Maria and Mamoru and getting ready to be paired up with a member of the opposite sex to due some sorta of temple duty. Maria jokes that Saki will end with Ryou since he has been a member of their circle of friends/group in school forever. Saki looks over at Ryou who is super happy to see Saki staring at him. Maria seems excited for Saki while Saki is like bleh. Ryou does end taking Saki aside to talk about things. She steer clears of the inner room area which is fine with Ryou. He tells Saki he plans on choosing Saki for this task. Since this choosing is basically a declaration of love Saki is like....err let me think about this. Maria doesn't know why Saki isn't more excited. Saki walks home and thinks about how things just seem wrong. Has Ryou really been apart of their group since the beginning? Why would their group be so small and all the other groups had more members? Was Ryou the one Saki was in love with and the one who dated Satoru? Saki goes home and has the weirdest dream ever. It is a graveyard with all the missing children. The voice of Shun is heard yet Saki has no idea who he is. She feels as if she should know him and he talks about how he has already been forgotten and is in a plac where all the kids end up. Shun manages to give Saki a hint about something that will help her figure out this hot mess . She locates a mirror in her house with a name on it she doesn't recognize.

Behold our straightness now!
Back at school everyone is all WOOHOO about the whole partner picking thing and Saki mentions that Ryou isn't the person they should be friends with. Satoru starts thinking and realizes that Ryou is not the person he dated as well. Maria and Mamoru think they are insane. Saki pulls Ryou aside and asks him questions that only Shun would know. Ryou and his transplanted memories can't get any of the questions right. He insists that he loves Saki but she says she won't be his partner. She instead picks Satoru where it is assumed Maria and Mamoru pick each other. After school Saki and Satoru really hammer home the fact that this Ryou does not seem on the up and up. Little by little the kids remember that Ryou doesn't live in the right village and Ryou isn't Satoru's type. Maria starts to believe and together they all go towards the village they think this person used to live. Only when they get there it a hot mess. They know something went down there and Mamoru starts freaking out. Later Maria, Saki, and Satoru get together. Mamoru has insisted that trying to remember their correct memories is against the rules and has melted into a blob. Maria points out that Saki is strong but not everyone is like her. Saki says she will continue to look for the truth and brings the mirror as proof she had an older sister. They plan on investigating more but are taken by a few adults. They realize they are being taken to the head of the Ethics Committee who turns out to be Satoru's grandmother. The girls yell at Satoru for a bit until they realize he had no idea either. One by one the kids are taken to see Grandmother. THE END!

Can the kids just RUN AWAY already? I think I have been saying that since episode 5 but really now. Really. Why the hell are they sticking around to deal with this hot mess? Just run off in your boy/girl pairs and you four can go live in the woods with the Queerats and Fail Eevees. It can't be anymore dangerous than what is going on now.
Photobucket
At what point is enough enough? Just go already!
When head of the Queerats was sent to kill them and they still went back the village...I was sorta rolling my eyes. I know that they were kids (still are kids) at the time but they were just told about their horrible past, implied the village was full of liars who make kids go missing, and now they have proof the adults wanted to kill them. Now why the hell would you want to go back to that? I know being with mommy and daddy makes people feel safe but the other kids had mommies and daddies too. And they are missing. So....why the hell would they get their powers back and sneak into the village like nothing happened?

Of course the adults are special too. Maybe only some of them are cold hearted snakes. Because if a group of 5 kids went out and found the truth about everything (well a lot anyway) and they allowed them back into the village. Maybe because Shun was in the group and they wanted to save him as his powers were awesome. But why risk the kids infecting the other kids with their nonsense? Just seems like a huge risk. One that didn't pay off as Shun blew up an entire village with his crazy dream like powers.

Pray away the insanity.
I must say it was easier to watch this episode this week as I wasn't having seizures on the ground and struggling to watch and understand what was going on. Now not much did happen in this episode so maybe that is why it was easier to understand. Still it was a nice to take a break from the insanity.
Photobucket
Keep on trying Saki!
Shun is dead. Now if I were running the crazy village/cult I would have made the kids forget about Shun right after the cracked egg incident. The more time they spent with Shun the stronger the memories would be. Especially with Saki going through the crazy experience on the lake. She seems to have the easiest time breaking through the hypnotizing so they really should have taken Shun out of her mind faster. All this hypnotizing is to protect the most amount of kids right? She could have died on the lake too. Or told everyone what happened.
Photobucket
Wonder why this kid was picked.
But it seems for now they hypnotized a great deal of people. But instead of making the kids forget about Shun like they have with the others they tried replacing him with a new kid Ryou. That means tons of people would have to have their memories changed. I guess there must be a lot of jobs in this village that are based around making people forget things. In hindsight it probably would have been better to make the kids forget about Shun. Now they are like wait these wrong details don't add up and thus the exploring.
Photobucket
Wait aren't you jealous of HIM?!
So........when did everyone turn straight? Because last time I checked everyone in the school was in a gay relationship and Maria was being fondled by Saki. But now everyone is being forced to pick straight pairings for temple duty which is apparently is code for I Love You. And everyone is okay with it. Even Maria. I thought you guys were going to be together forever. See that is the problem I have with these series. I feel as if a lot of details are being left out. Almost like these gay relationships weren't supposed to exist. That everyone was just having sex to relieve stress and people weren't really in love.
Photobucket
Well....at least this makes more sense as random acts of stress love....
But that is not what I see. Perhaps it was part of the brainwashing but Maria seemed to like Saki despite all the conditioning to be in a gay relationship. The same for Satoru. But Maria was all like go be with Ryou!!!!! It made no sense to me. The other students in the class seem okay with the new pairings that came out of nowhere. How did everyone have time to pick a new person to love if they were happy with their current partners? It just seemed like there was no transition. That maybe this should have taken place a few more years in the future. Because to the audience the kids just got together. Now it is like OKAY time to be straight.
Photobucket
:( No real memories for him.
Putting aside the fact that Maria and Satoru weren't all Woe Is Us as much as they should have been...I might feel the worst for Ryou. Everyone had their memories changed of one person. Ryou might have had everything changed. Now when Saki was asking him questions later it seemed as if he didn't know much. But still the thought of that happening to him seems so sad. He doesn't seem to understand what is going on but maybe he is just as confused. He seemed okay when Saki was asking him questions but now that she has turned him down and put all those thoughts in his head maybe he will become upset too.
Photobucket
Cracks, cracks, and more cracks.
I wonder if Saki is special or if everyone is able to break through this flimsy hypnotism. She seems to do so with ease. Mamoru brought up the point that they weren't supposed to talk about things like this, that it was against the rules. Maybe everyone has pieces of the truth flying around in their head but know that if they bring it up they will go missing too.
Photobucket
Oh yes...Saki is the one starting the problems. I see.
Maria is a good point to make on that stance. While she seems pretty powerful so far she has come across as missing like half of her brain. Like oh is something bad happening? I don't know what you are talking about lalala. And even when Satoru and Saki were trying to explain their side she was trying to make sense of the discrepancies. It was only when Mamoru had his mini breakdown was she like LOOK GUYS this is some crazy shit and I get t hat but we have to pretend the world is sunshine and rainbows for Mamoru. So has Maria known all along that things were bad or has she recently just seen the light?
Photobucket
It was like Mamoru understood everything that was going on...and then ran away to his happy spot or denial place.
Mamoru being the most upset about their memories being changed from Shun to Ryou...well that was expected. I really can't make fun of him freaking out because that probably would have been me too. Like nope I am not moving from this spot. I give up. No more for me. I actually expect Mamoru to kill himself due to all this nonsense. He might have be okay had the truth been kept from him. But Satoru and Saki want to know the truth and will probably be okay after some epic meltdowns. Mamoru will throw himself off a bridge. Maria....will probably smile in public but cry every night at home.
Photobucket
These adults fail at hypnotizing. That or everyone else is way too powerful in this new world.
Most of the episode focused on Saki trying to remember Shun. She did have a brief trip into crazyland where Shun tried to tell her what was up. But she probably chalked that up to a creepy dream. But with finding her sister's mirror and just having a feeling that something isn't right...Saki was able to break through the cracks. No one really knows the truth but they know what they know is not the truth.
Photobucket
This seems like an important detail Satoru was not informed of.
With Shun gone does that mean our team will be closer than ever? That is pretty sad. :( His powers went out of control and it seems to happen to anyone/everyone. Its not like he wanted that to happen. With all the love triangles going on one would think that things would get better for our group. Bond over the fact they have all been tricked and mourn over Shun. But there are still many more episodes left of this hot mess. What if all that is going on Adult Saki still blames Maria for things going wrong? At this point how can see that? Out of control powers probably made the Queerats and all the adults in town are creepy. So Satoru's grandmother wants to talk to them? Time to be afraid. Very afraid.

In this ep, it is obvious that the village has erased everyone's memories of Shun, and on a large scale to boot. People tend to remember what they want to, and often in ways they wish to. Positive events will be recalled in a greater light than they actually were, and then vice versa for unfortunate events. I suppose this is why it is harder to "erase" their "lovable" Shun out of their mind. This memory-altering system is still a mystery to me, but we did get certain hint in ep1-----the white mask that appeared in everyone's mind, making everyone stop talking about the missing students at school.

It is also interesting to see our main characters' reacted to the truth in different ways. Mamoru is freeking out to learn the truth. Maria accepted the truth but willing to be a bystander, and she does not feel strong enough to do anything about it. Well, there is not much they could do, in fact they do not even know how their village operates.

I wonder how Saki’s siblings killed off? Did she learn anything like Saki about to?

Anonymous- Erasing so many people's memories seems like an impossible task to me. I mean they could gather everyone together to do so but by then people might have jotted down notes and what not. Even if they did just the kids it seems like such a large task. Lots of room for error which makes me think that other groups of kids have similar AHA moments when they realize that they are missing someone.

I think Mamoru is perfect for this society as he will do what he is told and wants everything to be rainbows and sunshine and will believe it to be so despite the fact a tornado just blew down his house. Maria wants to be special with her powers but doing something with them seems beyond her.

I hope we see what really happened to Saki's sibling (s?). Not just something random that leaves us hanging. Although everyone seems to be in danger of being taken out at any given moment.
