Sword Art Online episode 16

Look at all these posts people! I am on a roll. I did lose a bit of momentum when it was confirmed this was a Daryl free episode of The Walking Dead. Then I spent like 35 minutes trying to find a Daryl chart online but came up short. See folks that is how I get sidetrack. XD So bad.

But yes more anime episodes even though I am watching The Walking Dead for a third time pretending I will see Daryl. Up now is Sword Art Online episode 16. Spoilers for Daryl being way more awesome that Kirito.

Episode Summary: Kirito hurries over to Egil’s empty bar to ask him about the blurriest picture known to mankind. Egil pulls out a copy of ALfheim Online, a new game that came out after Sword Art Online went KA-Boom. It uses slightly different gear but the concept seems the same. Instead of swords there is making and since this is the world of faeries the characters have wings. Kirito gets a bit excited about the game but turns back his attention to Asuna. Egil says he is talking about this game as there is a section in ALfheim Online called World Tree. It is difficult to get there as characters can only fly for a certain amount of time thus no one can reach that far. On a failed attempt screenies were taken of the area and an Asuna like person was trapped in a bird cage at the top. Kirito sees the company behind the game is where Sugou works. He borrows the game from Egil and sets off to save Asuna. He briefly runs into his cousin Suguha who was busy thinking about him and chocking on muffins. He saves her from muffin death and thanks her for giving him a hug last night. He goes upstairs and after the briefest of pauses puts the NerveGear back on and logs on into ALfheim Online. He picks his character and names himself Kirito again.

Such a casual conversation....

Kirito starts to fall near a town but the game starts to look weird and he ends up on a forest. He falls but recovers quickly. He looks at his stats and notices that they are the same from Sword Art Online. He rushes to see his items and most of them say ?????? except one. He opens it up and out pops Yui. It is a dramatic reunion and the two hug. Yui then is able to tell Kirito all about the game because it is anime magic woohoo! She says that the reason she is there and Kirito has his stats is that this game is basically borrowed stuff from Sword Art Online. That this new company basically just stole the servers from Sword Art Online. As long as Kirito deletes the corrupt files and doesn’t run into a real life GM life will be fine. The system updates Yui as a Navigation Pixie and she turns into a travel size girl. Kirito tells Yui that Asuna is here and he needs to understand this game to save her. Yui teaches Kirito how to fly and they set off to the nearest town. Elsewhere two characters named Lyfa and Recon are trying to leave what appears to be enemy territory. They are outnumbered by fire welding enemies and Recon is killed and Lyfa falls to the ground. Lyfa continues to put up a fight but Kirito comes along all dazzed and confused from his crappy landing. The enemies tell the newbie Kirito to walk away but Kirito is like yo I got this random girl. After all I am the hero. Kirito makes quick work of one guy and smiles, asking for more. THE END!

Why does anything surprise Kirito anymore? Wasn't he STUCK in a game for 2 years?!

Elf ears and flying. I thought they were fairies. XD Where is Legalos? I want to see him fly!!!! Ah yes laughing all the way to my fridge…to eat more birthday cupcakes. So it looks like Egil is doing okay after this whole being trapped in a game deal for 2 years. Yeah his bar looked empty but they tend to look like that in the middle of the day. Stop judging Kirito. But yeah. Maybe I just thought that people would be acting all weird and such two months later. Maybe that is just me. I would be holed up in my house and jumping at every noise, thinking it was a monster coming to attack me. But all is well in Egil land.

So….has Egil been playing this ALfheim Online game himself? Because how else did Egil know about this picture? I am sure it was posted on the ALfheim Online forum or something. So Egil is playing this game and he gave his copy of it to Kirito? If not that is some weird anime magic going on. I don’t remember seeing Egil in the special opening song but maybe you can make yourself look different in the game and Kirito is just too amazing to look any different.

I am not sure why ALfheim Online would be so popular after the whole Sword Art Online deal. It sounds like it was going on AFTER everyone got trapped. I would assume that the minute that went national everyone be afraid of games and gaming otakus would get a bad rap. Yes it has been two years but still. Using a device based on NerveGear after all that happened…just seems odd. Odd indeed.

Asuna never fear. Kirito the great is coming!

But I guess the game sounds interesting. After a while it is hard to make games sound different from every other game so it couldn’t totally be different that Sword Art Online. Well and the fact that is based on Sword Art Online servers….Egil made it sound like magic was more important than swords in this game and later it seems like both are used. Oh and flying. Can’t forget the flying. Maybe people put their fears aside because who the heck wouldn’t want to fly?! All and all Egil broke down the game and how Asuna might be in it pretty decently. I would have laughed too at the thought of 5 people on top of each other trying to reach the top.

Moment is over, Mortal Kombat time!

As interesting as this game sounds….I think I would have liked a little more hesitation from Kirito. He was like oh okay time to put the death helmet back on. I know he is a poor high school student but I might have looked into the newer gear. Maybe in the time I had been in a coma the technology had been improved upon and now people can’t get trapped in games. Oh and yes the coma thing. YOU JUST WOKE UP! I can appreciate the fact that Kirito wants to see if that is Asuna and get on to rescuing her but….I wouldn’t blame him if there was a freak out moment.

It is a real mystery on who is behind this hot mess.

Given WHO made the game and how creepy Mr. Face Licker was acting last episode….it really wasn’t surprising that Kirito got sent into a dangerous forest. Perhaps if Kirito had picked another name this wouldn’t have happened. But if someone went to the trouble to trap Asuna in a game I can see how they would make sure that the hero of Sword Art Online couldn’t arrive to save the day again. Now maybe the bigger question is why trap the other 299 people in the game too? Unless those 299 people are just in normal comas and this isn’t game related.

What the hell do you call winning the last game?!

Oh look…it is the return of Yui. I am so excited folks. But maybe now that she is pocket sized she won’t be as annoying. XD I kid I kid. Maybe not. I do find it odd that Kirito had all of his other items all ????? except Yui. Yay anime magic. Plus how helpful is it that this new game is based on Sword Art Online servers so Yui can actually be useful. That might have been annoying had she not be able to contribute. I thought Yui would have asked where Asuna was sooner but that might have led to more dramaticness and you know how sappy that can get.

Where is Tink when you need her?

Even without Yui and her new title as Navigation pixie I think that Kirito would have figured out how to fly in this game. Granted he wasn’t in a safe part of the game to make this beginner mistakes but would have crashed and got it…eventually. Might have been more difficult for him as beginner towns usually have the NPCs that help you…in the most basic way possible….in learning things. But Kirito is awesome remember. This game will be easy for him.

We could win if we had Daryl.

It appears that this game is going to focus a lot on PvP stuff. I think I like games where you run around and kill critters and baddies instead. But the husband likes to shoot people all the time in games so maybe this is more his speed. Lyfa and her man Recon were being a bit..special in my opinion. Almost like this was their first day or something. I know it was for the viewer’s benefit but they were acting way too new and way too offended that they were getting attacked. Getting some Accel World vibes here, with factions and such.

You have been in the game for 5 seconds and you are already the best player?

The episode ends with Kirito once again being the hero. Because if Kirito wasn’t saving or protecting a girl his little mind might explode into tiny pieces. Of course he was able to do so because all of his skills are still in place. So Kirito got knocked out of town but the person corrupting his file didn’t think to remove his skills. In any event….poor Asuna. Looks like Kirito has a new sidekick for now. XD Jealous?
