It's Monday and that means it's time for the Pandora Heart blog post! I promised myself I wasn't going to be a lazy blogger today and I kept my word. Because Oz is so big, bad, and scary I was afraid not to. XD
But yeah. While watching the specialness that is Heroes I blogged this happy little episode. And it is a little hard to write about something that is meant to be confusing while watching a show that is the definition of special. So I think I will stick to watching soaps and blogging anime. Much easier to multitask that way.
So as always, there are spoilers in this post. So beware and don't complain that I ruined episode 4 for you. XD Enjoy.
Oz is dreaming of a younger Gilbert and his happy face. He wakes up and the older Gilbert is standing there. Oz looks confused and apparently doesn’t recognize him. Oz freaks out when he sees Sharon and attempts to run out of the room. He is briefly calmed when Break tells Oz that this is the real world now and that he should sit down and eat some cake. Oz seems to SHOCK Sharon, Gilbert, and Break when he reveals that the Abyss is real. While they eat cake Oz explains how horrible the Abyss was for the ten minutes he was there. He goes on to explain that Alice helped him escaped and that she is connected to him by the pocket watch he found. Break points out that since Oz made a contract with Chain that person is breaking the law and Oz is now under arrest. Oz is deprived of his cake as Break explains all three of them are a part of an organization called Pandora. They are a group that studies the Abyss and they have made it illegal for humans to make contracts with Chains. Oz is a little shocked and Sharon throws a mini fit but soon Oz has his hands tied and they make their way downstairs. Alice takes over Oz’s body and manages to escape three feet away. Break activates a binding spell on the floor and freezes Oz’s body. Then he uses his walking stick of power to separate Alice and Oz.
Break taunts Alice when he learns her real name and the fact that her powers are sealed now. Alice explains that she is only in this world to find her memories that have been scattered around. She said she woke up in the Abyss with no memories except the name Alice and the tune from the pocket watch. Break decides the thought of a Chain having memories is laughable and beats her with his cane. Oz takes the hit for her and says that he will protect the one who saved him from the Abyss. Oz says that he will not work with them and that will hurt them in the end as they have implied they need them for their little group. Break then makes a silly face and says that he was only PLAYING with them. No one is amused. Break says it is time for cake….but the pocket watch on the floor opens up a pathway to the Abyss. A scary looking hedgehog porcupine monster comes out. It runs around the room trying to escape and the crew worries that it will make it outside and will find its own contractor. They realize that they need Alice’s full powers to stop the crazy animal and “Raven” is somehow able to unlock Oz’s power. Alice transforms and takes delight in tearing up the beast. The watch falls to the ground and both Oz and Alice reach for it. When they touch it at the same time it glows and shows everyone the memory of Alice trying to strange Oz in that doll house. While everyone experiences that memory Oz is approached by a strange man who lurks in the shadows. The man tells Oz that if he helps Alice find all her memories he will find the answers he seeks as well.
Oz wakes up to Alice crying. She is overwhelmed at the fact she just gone one of her memories back and can’t stop crying. Sharon and Break now think that Alice is the key they have been looking for. But a little while later Alice has recovered from her tears and is demanding to know what is going to happen to her and Oz. She recognizes that they are completely at their mercy. Break explains that he wants them to join Pandora and help investigate the Baskerville (the robed men). They want to know why the robed men wanted Oz so very badly and that Alice’s memories are where tunnels to the Abyss appear. Both are very valuable. Oz is told that he can’t go back to his old life anyway as everyone thinks he is dead. Sharon won’t answer why they are after Baskerville but promises them it is important. Before they answer the sun comes up and Alice and Oz run outside to appreciate its beauty. They both decide to help out Pandora to seek out what they really want. Gilbert watches the sparkly pair as the sun rises. THE END!
This episode wasn’t as amazing as the last couple but that is okay. Not every single episode can be awesome or Earth shattering. Just as long as this doesn’t become a pattern and every week the plot slows more and more down. Keep me on my toes please.
With that said it wasn’t completely boring. It wasn’t really boring at all. Not a lot happened but sometimes breather episodes are necessary. Sometimes within these episodes small pieces of information are released and it is easier to pick up on that kind of information when there aren’t crazy dolls chasing after people.
I think the piece of information that was will be important for weeks to come is Alice breaking down in front of Oz and acting like a cute innocent girl. Even if it was only for a brief moment she was just sad girl who wanted to be saved. And I think that is more true to her real personality. I am sure whatever she is... she is a sarcastic little creature but deep down she is just a lost girl who wants to be cared for. Or at least that is what I will tell myself.
I was a little surprised that Alice’s past (or weirded memory) was shown to the other three individuals. I thought it was going to be a random flashback that Oz was going to think about throughout the series. I am not sure why it would matter if they know about the attempted straggling of Oz in some weird doll house. Maybe later it will make more sense on why they are concerned about her missing memories but I don’t see why they would care.
Alice’s memories being on the openings to the Abyss makes no sense but I am sure it will be okay. So I might accept it for now. It just comes off as very random and almost Tsubasa like. And Tsubasa was quite confusing at times. So while it might be wtf and out of left field it might make sense in the end. But yeah…didn’t see that one coming. Makes me wonder if Alice was the very first chain or her existence helped created the Abyss.
:( It makes me a little sad that Gilbert is not coming out and saying who he is to Oz. I don’t see the point in lying to him as he can see that Elizabeth has grown up (or does he not know she has grown up?). I was expecting some dramatic reuniting moment or at least a WTF face. But no, say hello to Raven. Bleh.
Sharon is a little annoying to me. She is way too passive and oh, isn’t this grand. Not really standing out to me or voicing her opinions very loudly. The way she is being cryptic with her words is slightly annoying too. I rather her not say anything than her actual say it but it be a cut away scene.
Break is a special kind of person. I will just ignore the doll on his shoulder (that looks a lot like a Chain) for now and just focus on his specialness. I think that he might be a chain as well so I am not sure where his major attitude is coming from. And it was sad watching Alice get beat with a stick when clearly she is stronger than he is. He seems to be rather annoying and if I was Gilbert I would just there and shake my head the entire episode too.
This Pandora organization sounds special. In most animes there are secret organizations that know about a massive secret the rest of the world doesn’t know. And it is always convenient that the main character meets up with members of this organization. Because the main character is every anime series is the key to understanding the massive secret said organization. It is o so special. But apparently we are supposed to trust this special organization and not the robed people.
We really didn’t learn much this episode except Alice and Oz are very important to multiple groups and are likely to cause havoc if they are left unchecked. From the sounds of this episode the series is going to focus more on getting rid of Chains that have escaped into our world and SLOWLY talk about Alice’s past and what Oz’s sin is.
And in a way that is fine. I mean, if we got the answers right away this would be a really short series. I am just happy that they are no longer sharing a body. Of course we do have that pesky Chrono Crusade type of pact that might end up killing Oz. Hopefully that will not be the case and everyone can live happily ever after. Except for that creepy doll on Break’s arm. It can die.
