07-Ghost Episode 1 Review: HURRAY FOR FAN GIRLS!

I was so excited about this series I meant to post this much, MUCH earlier. Finally a series that seems so awesome and worthy of blogging! But I accidentally set my kitchen on fire.

But just a little fire.

With the whole putting out the small blaze, making sure my cats were still alive, and trying to breath air my post got pushed back just slightly. As I type this I am a little light headed as the air refuses to clear up. :( The things I do for blogging..(that and I am scared to go to sleep due to carbon dioxide poisoning). But everything is fine except for the two murdered potholders and the plastic spatula thingy that was in the sink at the time said potholders were flung in the sink.

The fresh air must be nice...

So putting aside the fact that I am a moron who can't even make mac and cheese and I have loud fans blowing outside open windows....WOOT FOR A COOL NEW SERIES! Let's get on with it shall we?!

Angry bishounen are so hot. XD

Our story starts off with Teito having a dream or flashback of a very scary time. The dream/flashback is all grey and sketchy but Teito remembers a man’s face, a necklace, and chaos. He wakes up from his dream startled and frustrated. Teito accidentally wakes his friend Mikage up from the bottom bunk bed. Not that it matters as a military lady walks in and tells them all to get ready NOW. They attend an assembly that explains to the viewers all these men (or I only saw men) attend a military school and today is graduation day. The adults talk about how this graduating class seems to have more potential in regards to the graduates becoming begleiters or assistant executive officers. Their headmaster explains to them later that tomorrow they will have a test to see what they learned in school and measure whether or not they will move up in the military. Shuri, class president, seems to have lots of loyal fans but only due to his family name. Shuri picks on Teito but Mikage shuts him down fast. The higher ups start arriving at the school and Teito and Mikage dream about being them one day. Then they flirt with each other a little bit…or wish each other luck in special boy language. They then practice in the court yard their special military art….word attack or something. Teito wins because apparently he is awesome.

Don't make my yaoi comments so easy!

Later that night Teito whispers sweet nothings to Mikage about how they will one day be separated but they must remain friends and write each because they are BEST FRIENDS FOREVER! Teito mumbles that he was raised a slave and has no memories of his life before being a slave. He says he doesn’t understand love or family but decides that Mikage is his best friend too. Mikage is TOUCHED by his words and cries tears of joy! Mikage and Teito make an oath to always protect each other on the battle field no matter what. The next day is their special exam day and Mikage and Teito are in a group with Shuri. Shuri picks on Mikage again with Mikage defending his pal. Some of the groups are told to get into a room…..and a huge man enters. We are talking…HUGE. They are told to kill this man or be killed. Headmaster tells them they will fail if they are unable to kill the HUGE criminal or protect their friends. The boys are then thrown around like rag dolls. The people at the school salute as the top military officials come by to see the battle. They are not impressed that most of the people are acting like pansies and begging to be set free. The only kids that are still able to move and aren’t crying in the corner are Teito and Mikage. They try to punch out the giant but Mikage gets a little strangled. Teito gets pissed off and defends his friend bravely! Mikage defeats the giant but decides to show mercy and not kill him. Mikage is ordered to do so but refuses. The head dude of the top military official dudes comes in the room and finishes off the giant to Teito’s shock.

Amazing how children are always carbon copies of their parents in animes.

Later that night Mikage talks about how only 19 of them passed and how that main dude Ayanami is a crazy guy. Mikage is grateful that Teito saved his life and looks up to him for not killing that prisoner. Mikage decides that he will celebrate their last night together…in the same bed all snuggled up together. During the night Teito starts to dream again of snow and that man wearing the necklace. While walking with his graduation papers Teito hears a noise that is exactly like the noise the dream necklace made. He is drawn to the noise and lurks behind a slightly opened door. Ayanami and some of his henchman are holding the necklace talking about finding the Eye of Mikhael and any royal heirs that survived. Suddenly Teito can remember the past more clearly and he remembers Ayanami killing his father. Teito was only spared because they thought he was a slave boy (or at least that is what Teito believes happened). Teito tries to kill Ayanami but is immediately stopped by sexy henchmen. They remember Teito being present that day way back when and decide to keep him alive for questioning. They take him downstairs and chain him to the wall. Mikage decides he is going to go rescue Teito…who has already killed the guards and freed himself. Teito is sad and says he doesn’t think he will be able to keep his oath to his bestest friend. Mikage won’t hear of it and tells Teito he has stolen a hover car XD for him to escape in. Insert Teito being touched by this act of true friendship. Teito has to pretend he is holding Mikage hostage to he can protect Mikage from being a criminal too. Teito manages to escape to the hover craft thing on his own and whooshes off. Some of Ayanami's men hunt Teito down and disable his craft. He falls unconscious in the air...and THE END!

Don't end the episode yet! More Teito X Mikage please!

FINALLY! This might be the first anime this season that has me TRULY excited and waiting impatiently for next week for another episode. I can say pretty confidently that this show will get blogged about each week with its own post. And only 25 percent of that reason has to do with the fact I am a crazy yaoi fan girl!

Photobucket

Aw! Teito is so cute when he is trying to look menacing!

Let’s start off with the opening theme song. Very catchy tune. And I love how the opening theme song looks like it is using scenes from the actual anime. Not just pictures of the characters doing random things that won’t have anything to do with the plot. Not that I am making much sense but I know what I mean. It might be a jumbo pile of confusion but I am sure by the end of the series some of these scenes will have been included in the series. Or I am just reading too much into the opening theme song. I just thought it was well put together.

Photobucket

Mikage gives the opening theme song a solid A.

The art is pretty good by my snobby standards. It is at least better than the other new shows I have previewed this spring season (thus far anyway). I tend to judge a show’s art based on the eyes…and Teito’s eyes are so big and uke like…so I love it. XD

Photobucket

*dies from cuteness*

Can we talk about the lovely pairing in my mind now? Or the pairing that is blatantly obvious? AH! It seems like forever ago when I was pairing together Suzaku and his lovely uke Lelouch. Finally another couple has stepped up to take their place (but never the place of Fai and Kurogane!).

Photobucket

This is how all soldiers bond DUH!

Photobucket

Not really protesting that much...

Photobucket

Tell the world Mikage tell the WORLD!

Of course…this couple might not last long. Or get much screen time as Teito and Mikage have already been separated. CURSES! Don’t the writers know I live for these kinds of moments and without them my life has no meaning?! But seriously….after hearing that oath…I had doubts about Teito and Mikage’s survival. Typically with these types of shows the two bestest friends are separated and discover they are on two different sides of a war and they end up fighting to the death. :( I do not want that to happen with this couple.

Photobucket

This typically does not end well...

Perhaps there will be a sliver of hope for these two. Perhaps Mikage can get in close with the main bad guy and in the end protect his beloved Teito. I have dreams people, real dreams. Or at the very least…I got the knowledge that they were snuggling up at least once. At last proof to back up my yaoi pairings.

Photobucket

Look at that, plain as day. The one he loves. Ultimate proof!

Teito and Mikage are interesting characters besides the yaoi factor. Teito is the cute little angry uke who is super power. Only in anime can the shortie be the scariest person at the entire school. He has a shady past and has the typical problems with not being able to relate to people well, no one understands him blah blah. Mikage is the exact opposite, a goof ball and someone who can protect Teito from the mean bullies. XD

Photobucket

I mean kinda FOR SURE!

Photobucket

Must resist uke comments...

The memories/dream part of this episode did come on a little bit strong. With a short series like this one ( :( ) it is important to get on with the story and fast. So they had to throw at our faces LOOK Teito has a mysterious past. And look, it is important we showed you this now because MOG there is the necklace. So while it was laid on a little think I enjoyed the actual flashback scenes (but more than some other people who have flashbacks for 24902385 episodes MOG I HATE YUKI CROSS!).

Photobucket

Sparkly dream will probably end badly...

The other characters didn’t really have much going on except for Ayanami. I want to hate Ayanami right away for hurting my Teito but…there might be more to this story than meets the eye. Of course I am probably wrong and Ayanami really had no reason for killing Teito’s father. I just wish they made the bad guy less….bad guy like. Not all bad guys have crazy eyes and are known for being psychopath.

Photobucket

Ayanami and his posse.

This show had a lot of different concepts and events going on within its 22 minute time frame but it was much easier to follow than other shows. So thanks for not trying to explode my head in the first episode. I appreciate that. But I still want to know what those word attacks were all about.

Photobucket

Random word attacks are also good for porn pranks.

I would roll my eyes more at the concept of teenagers protecting the country but it seems as if that isn’t going to be the main theme of this show. But still….throwing a bunch of kids in a room with a giant and telling them to go at it? Bleh. Cruel…but probably very true. Oh and I think Teito needs more training. Revenge has it’s time my friend. XD

Photobucket

Do not want!

I think I have gone on long enough and really…all I want to talk about now is the yaoi couple in my head. XD But seriously this show seems to have real potential and I am excited about it even if there aren’t any more yaoi-like scenes with Teito and Mikage. I can’t wait for the next episode and to see where this series will take us. Happy viewing!!!

Photobucket

DON'T SAY THAT! GIVE ME HOPE!
