To Aru Majutsu no Index Episode 24 and series review

The end is here. :( It doesn't seem likes 24 weeks has gone by...but sadly it has. To Aru Majutsu no Index has ended. The masses mourn.

This anime is not one to mince words.

But this show will not go quietly into that gentle night. No, it will end on a high note and make it's audience chant for a second series! EVERYONE CHANT NOW!

But yes...this is the last episode (at least for now). It was a little bitter sweet to blog but I am sappy like that. So click the read more link to ride the last train to the crazy town known as Touma's world of misfortune!

SAVE THE KITTENS!!!!!

Touma is running after Hyōka and where he thinks Index is when he is attacked. Sherry has sent Ellis ahead of her to turn Index into a splat pancake (last episode) since Touma can destroy Ellis so easily. Touma is not pleased but Sherry goes on and on about how psychics can’t learn magic or they will die…then taunts him with how she knows this information. Sherry then explains how once upon a time there was an organization formed to combine magic and psychic powers. Somehow her real life friend Ellis was killed in this experiment gone bad. The truth comes out: Sherry is not trying to start a war to cost lives; she is trying to make sure that they never WANT to combine powers again. Or at least that is how Touma sees it. Sherry is not moved that Touma feels bad for her and reveals she has lined the area with spells. Touma remembers back to Index explaining how the placement of the spells and the position of the user are important. Touma manages to deactivate some of the spells and punch Sherry in the face. She gets up all broken and ragged and tries to walk away. She mutters about the war and how it is stupid that Index was allowed to walk free. Touma tries to convince her she is a good person and just doesn’t want to get hurt again. Sherry goes on and on that she wants to kill everyone…but she doesn’t want to kill anyone x_X. Touma breaks out one of his epic feel good speeches, but Sherry attacks anyway. Touma knows that Sherry really is saying STOP ME so he slugs her in the face again. Sherry is down for the count…but mutters she has lost control of Ellis.

And then we pick up from last episode. Yes, it is Touma’s fault that Index is about to become a splat cake. But Hyōka arrives and apparently has super strength now. Her legs kinda break while stepping on Ellis, but she manages to save Index. And the cat. Index is just a TINY bit surprised. Ellis gets back up…and forms into a bigger golem. Not good. Index tells Hyōka to run, but Hyōka breaks it down and tells Index she isn’t human and monsters should fight monsters. On to fighting! Hyōka is boo hooing about ending all the great times she has had in her life (the whole 2 hours) and how she just wants to protect her friend. WHOOSH comes Touma to show Hyōka she should not give up her place in the world so easily. Touma destroys Ellis but Hyōka is nowhere to be found. Misaka FINALLY comes and finds Index. She is all shy while she asks Touma what is wrong. Kuroko shows up all jealous and teleports Misaka out of there before the AntiSkill people show up. Touma finds Hyōka on top of a structure looking at the city and being sad about how everything is over. Index will hate her for being a monster and her dreams of being a real person are over. She cries in Touma’s shirt and is generally upset. Touma tells her to look…and they see Index stomping up looking pissed. But she is pissed because she was worried for Hyōka, because Hyōka is her friend. Hyōka is beyond touched by this as she is a MONSTER but it ends all skippy and rainbows.

The only anime where punching a magical creature works.

Elsewhere Motoharu is really pissed off at Aleister. Apparently Aleister is the person who gave Hyōka her consciousness thus making her a “real” person. Somehow Motoharu concludes that Hyōka is an artificial angel and that the area she is from is an artificial heaven..or at least a heaven that Aleister is trying to create. Motoharu is disgusted with Aleister and leaves warning him about including Touma in his plans while Aleister smiles in his floaty tube. Touma meanwhile is HAPPY because he was in a battle and didn’t end up in the hospital. He tells frog man his happy story…but Komoe and Aisa beat him for making them worry. Index and Hyōka are talking about their friendship and that Hyōka isn’t a monster. It is almost cookies and kittens…but Hyōka starts getting fuzzy. She tells Index that her existence is based on the powers of other, thus she is not stable. She says that she has to go now, but hopes to meet her again one day and no matter what she will be by Index’s side. Index starts crying (and her face breaks with 184 kinds of emotions), but bids Hyōka goodbye.

Index gets over it quick though.

And then life moves on in the city. Pierce is hitting on Aisa while she plays with a weapon. Komoe notes that Motoharu is not in class. Motoharu IS on campus, but is talking very animated with someone on the phone. Accelerator and Misaka Misaka are sleeping in the hospital and Kikyou has agreed to watch over them both. Misaka is nearly molested in the shower by Kuroko. Stiyl is ordered by a blond hair girl that they require Index now, but Touma is allowed to come with her. Kaori isn’t around so Stiyl is to go alone. While leaving school Touma runs into a starving Index. She notes that he has food while she was left to starve. So the obvious course of action is to chew on his head. THE END!

Needs A1 Sauce.

WOOHOO! This is the kind of ending I like! Every character was at least mentioned, most loose ends were tied up, main characters still alive, and enough mystery is left over for a potential second season. YAY ME!

Yay for happy endings...sorta.

After all the drama with Hyōka…she ends up disappearing anyway. But I guess the point of the matter is that she disappeared on her own terms and not because some bad guy killed her. That and she has the chance of coming back one day.

And I guess it won’t be the end of the world if she DOES come back. Don’t get me wrong, I still think she is annoying and over dramatic. She was only in the real world for a few hours and was being I CAN’T LEAVE INDEX and my memories behind. And her big boobs annoyed me. But….she isn’t that bad. If I lived in a world where I couldn’t interact with anyone I probably be a little starved for attention too.

I just want to know where her super strength came from. Can she just do what she wants now? Can she use the energy in her body and become super strong? I guess that is not a really important question but it would be nice to know.

Of course Sherry didn’t die. Because hardly anymore in this series died. And that is okay with me too. Since she was given a good reason on why she should live. She was trying to save people from being hurt in her own special way. Again, if I was lived in her world and experienced what she did…I might take out one person to save thousands. Not that I think Sherry was actually going to take lives…but whatever.

I LOVED Touma’s little dramatic speech to Sherry. It wouldn’t be a battle to the death if Touma didn’t take the time to tell the other person his awesome perspective on things. Sometimes he is way off course…but this time he hit the nail on the head. And his speech was necessary to remind Sherry she is a good person and is worthy to be saved.

I also loved how Touma was so proud of himself for coming away from a battle in one piece. At least he acknowledges he is always getting hurt because of some girl. He didn’t escape injury free as Komoe and Aisa gave him so tough love…but he deserved it.

Plus note that Komoe had to get on a box before she punished Touma.

Motoharu’s little…whatever speech was too interesting for me. It was hard to follow and it came out of left field. Unless AIM energy=angels. It was too dramatic of a leap for me and I bet it was better explained in the manga. This information was just WHOOSHED at us to help set up for the second…so I guess I am okay with that.

But seriously…YAY FOR SECOND SERIES! Between Motoharu’s little bit of information and Stiyl being told of a new plan…it appears there will be a second season in the future. XD AND I AM HAPPY! And a little curious about if it will focus more on Index with time.

Cute last minute character is cute!

I liked how the series wrapped up by showing what most of the characters are up to now (Aisa love!). Index grew a little as a person…..then went right back to episode one with hanging on a pole and biting on Touma’s head. And it case anyone forgot…Touma’s life is unfortunate. Everything is wrapped up nicely in a bow for the viewers to appreciate and I thank them for that.

Oh Aisa..I heart you!

Maybe next season you will make sense XD

Aw, no friend for you?

Overall this series has been one of my favorites of the Fall 2008 season. I always looked forward to watching the episodes and blogging them. Both opening theme songs were AWESOME! Sometimes the information went over my head…but never as bad as Tales of the Abyss so that’s okay.

This series taste like win!

And of course my favorite character is Aisa. I wish her arc was longer and that she was still living with Touma thus giving her more screen time…but whatever. She is super cute and I love that voice of hers. Hopefully next season she has more scenes of cuteness!

Come back to me Aisa!!!

I also hope next season Kaori and Stiyl are around Index more. The beginning half of the season was strong because of their devotion to Index and I don’t like how they sorta abandoned her. I wanted them to stick around and watch over her in the distance as Index will always get in trouble.

I am glad that Index grew as a person. Granted she still is a little special but at least now she seems to acknowledge that Touma has it rough. I especially enjoyed episode 23 with Index holding her own. XD She brought a lot of comedy to this series and that was necessary when things got too series.

And I am glad she's not killing people anymore.

At times..Touma did get on my nerves. Or at least I had fun teasing him about his epic speeches. But soon I got offended that other people were stealing Touma’s MO and saying their own epic speeches. That is TOUMA’S THING! You let him take time in the middle of a battle to say things that maybe could wait until later. But Touma is our special gotta be the hero boy and you have to love him for it.

Misaka turned out to be a special character too with this little crush she has on Touma. Perhaps next season that will be touched on more, but I find it cute for now. She is trying hard to be big and bad and it fails. Plus…it is SO funny when Touma says sparkly in Japanese.

And Touma totally misses the blushy face XD

So overall…this series was pretty great. Had a bit of romance, fighting, magic, random WTF moments, a few sets of boobies, and an evil organization that doesn’t make sense. In short something for everyone. If we don’t get a second season…I still will be pretty satisfied with this series. XD Thanks for the memories Index!
