By tomorrow afternoon there were be new blog banners up and most if not all of them will be Kobato! They would be up now…but I kinda suck at anything involving the computer and coding. So we shall wait for Captain Jamie to save the day. Since she also made the banners…yeah. She saves the day a lot.
This post will contain a lot of spoilers from the manga WISH. And I mean a lot. Like the end of the series kind of spoilers. You have been warned. Now on to our very late show. XD
So….this post is late like I have already said. That and it obviously late. XD And now that I have watched this episode…I am not that sad I didn’t see it the second it came out. Don’t get me wrong, I love Kobato and she is very cute and special. Just something about this episode rubbed me the wrong way.
Perhaps it’s because I have read WISH and am up to date in the manga. Even though I keep saying that I am not going to spoil anything…I suck at promises. So yeah this episode was complete filler and had nothing to do with the manga. Not one inch. And it was written in such a way that the WISH characters might not even show up in the next episode or any other episode at all! Are you going to make them filler friends of the week?!?!?
The answer should be no. Kohaku is way too cute to just be random filler character with NO back story what so ever. If this episode is all that Kohaku was going to be given they shouldn’t have bothered at all. CLAMP likes crossover characters and so do I. In the manga Kohaku and the battle of heaven and those silly demons and angels in love have been mentioned quite a bit. Now not much has actually happened in terms of Kohaku and Kobato interacting so I can’t say RARW this is not how they meet because maybe they will. But in the manga it is handled a little bit smoother than OH HI there is Kohaku.
It seems that Shuichiro is a doctor in this version. He was a doctor in WISH but then you know…he died. And the last we saw of him was a reincarnated 16 year old. We don’t know if he decides to become a doctor in that new life. So it’s a bit weird seeing Shuichiro being very….flirty with Kohaku? Because he spent one day being “in like” with Kohaku before he died. He was more stoic and let on small smiles occasionally. And Kohaku was a little more reserved with her feelings. It’s not like WISH.
Which is how it should be. Who wants a retelling of the exact same story? Or maybe it is a retelling and this is “their future”. That Shuichiro is a doctor again and he and Kohaku have a closer relationship due to all they have been through. You would think more would have changed in 100 years but you never know.
So that part is confusing. There was no mention of any other WISH characters or if Kohaku was done with her punishment or…basically anything from WISH. Just Ioryogi saying oh this is Kohaku from heaven. That’s it. Oh and that Kohaku knows of Ioryogi somehow. Just lalala and we moved on like these are not important facts. :( That and Kobato never questioned anything about heaven or asked Kohaku about being an angel. On one hand that could mean that Kobato already knows about Heaven/Hell/The Underworld and doesn’t feel the need to ask questions about them. That would be an explanation but would still leave the viewer feeling robed. But another possibility would be that Kobato….is really just lalala and was more focused on Kohaku not crying. Yeah that is probably it.
So putting aside what the episode should have been about and how the WISH story could have been better told I think Kobato actually did a better job of trying to heal someone’s heart this episode. She only sorta missed the point this time. We all know that Shuichiro could afford the tickets. It was time that was causing them from going out on dates. But Kobato heard amusement park and she went out to get tickets. She really couldn’t stop Shuichiro from working but she was able to make him see
that he really needed to put Kohaku first in his life. She really did a great job.
So not only does she earn no candy but now she only has a year to finish her task in a year? Oh and bunnies shoot out lazer beams when they talk. XD
And what was her reward? NOTHING! Turns out Kohaku was happy. Silly me! I thought when people were crying because their significant other was too busy to spend time with them that meant they were sad. SILLY SILLY ME. But I do sorta get it. You can be happy in your relationship and still cry over little issues. Kohaku accepts that Shuichiro is a busy person and that his job is important. But she (He?) can still be a little sad over that reality. There was nothing for Kobato to heal. There could have been but for the purpose of making Kobato suffering there wasn’t. :( Poor Kobato.
My favorite part of the episode was the lottery ticket parts. From Kobato being mopey from not having a ticket to her flying into the water to her winning the plushie (which….rocks in my opinion) it was full of win and I enjoyed it. So not all parts of anime only are necessarily a bad thing. XD
Fujimoto wasn’t around that much in this episode. If I was him I would have been a little ticked when Kobato wouldn’t give back the tickets. XD Not that he has anytime to go to an amusement part but you can’t go around stealing. I liked how he didn’t give her the tickets either. He made her earn them which is how it should be. Not everyone is going to give Kobato a futon or an umbrella. Fujimoto represents the cold harsh reality of this world.
So there isn’t that much to say about this episode. They haven’t mentioned two whole sides of the plot yet which makes me X_X. You are going to have filler characters before you mention…THOSE things? Seems rather iffy to me. I would be more excited about this episode if I had more faith that there would be more of a WISH connection. We will have to wait and see. For now we get Kobato smelling leaves and being happy with her 10x10 room.
