Why play music when we can beg for money?

They let me start by saying…I love Jesus and God. YAY GOD! Not so much some church policies and rules against other ways of life, but in general churches can promote a positive way of living. Just avoid the crazy cult churches. So, this is a CHRISTIAN who is about to rant about a Christian radio station. Not someone who rants about Christians overstepping their bounds and think the rules don’t apply to them (although some do….dear lord what is this rant about…). ANYWAY!

Dear Christian radio station,

I think it is great that you are on in the sound waves promoting awesome songs. Albeit the SAME awesome songs over and over again from the past 10 years…but still awesome. We can play this station at work without worrying about some questionable language and lyrics. That and we are a Christian based business and it seems more suiting to have this radio station playing while we work. We don’t force our customers to listen to this music as they are in an area where the TV is playing. Just loud enough to annoy ME all day long.

For the past 5 days at work all I have heard is WE NEED MONEY! If I have to hear one more time how you need such and such funds to run your radio station I will shove a pizza slicer through my eye. I get it; you are a nonprofit radio station that relies on listeners to fund the programming. I have heard this so much over the past week…I am pretty sure I could recite the spiel word for word.

JUST SHUT UP! You are a radio station that plays MUSIC. You are not a talk show and no one wants to hear you go on and on about money over and over and over again all day long. After every single song we get an update on how much you are received. You list people’s names and how much they donated (which I think is totally tacky anyway). Stop bragging about being a commercial free radio station when 25 minutes of the hour is dedicated to your updating money status/how much more you need. If you actually RAN commercials you would not need to bore me to tears every 3 minutes.

And really….the way you are begging for this money is pretty aggressive. In case this radio station has not heard….there is a little bit of an economic crises….the word recession/depression might be used in describing this time period. So why are you telling listeners to donate over 1XX dollars? Shouldn’t any and all donations be accepted? I mean, I am sure they are but you are sure pressing the “we need this amount to run the station for one hour so please sponsor an hour of our programming”. There are different variation on how you mention the hour donation…but the point is the same. I just find it a ridiculous amount of money to donate when you consider most of your listeners already pay taxes and donate 10 percent every week to God. Stop pushing this 1XX dollar amount please.

In your overzealous attempts to raise money one of your D.J’s went completely …well something with their approach to raise money. They were using a doctor’s office as an example. The basic story was a doctor plays the radio station at his office for all his patients to hear. Basically he is using their service FOR FREE so he should feel compelled to donate at LEAST enough to fund an hour’s worth of music (or 35 minutes…). Sure it makes sense when you break it down….but to imply that the radio station is OWED money for allowing people to listen to their music is a little mind boggling. People should donate because they want to, not because people feel guilty about using a free service.

This doesn’t even HAVE to happen. You do not have to rely on listeners to fund your programming. JUST RUN COMMERICALS! There must be plenty of Christian based business that would like to run ads. I know some people love to shop/use services of Christian based business. So what better way to tell people about said business than to play their ads on the radio. So stop trying to sound so pathetic when you are the ones shooting your own foot off.

In conclusion…please stop. It is driving me up the wall. I would turn the radio station but I am not allowed to. Believe me I would. You are not bringing in new listeners when all you do is talk about money. You are not keeping long time listeners with less music and more whining. Or if you can’t stop begging please stop mentioning this amount per hour. It puts a lot of pressure on people.

I might sound bitter about the situation but I was at work for almost 10 hours today. Hearing the same crap over and over again nearly drove me nuts. Also I am more inclined to donate money to people in need…not to a free service that apparently is not so free.

Love

Bitter person who nearly drowned herself in liquid cheese to escape the torture.
