Eden of the East shall be posted tomorrow. XD Even though its specific day(s) is the weekend, I must be fair and post what gets subbed first. That and I already had watched this episode before work, before Eden got subbed. XD
There will be no pictures of creepy caterpillar monsters so..this post is safe for all to view. :D Thanks for reading and enjoy!
Even though he was injured by Philip’s father in the last episode, Oz screams at Alice to stop her attack. The voice in his head tells him he has the ability to stop Alice and when Oz screams again she de-transforms and Gilbert is knocked unconscious. Alice is not pleased. The father and the giant nasty caterpillar look on in confusion as the voice in Oz’s head tells him good job. The injured Oz tries to approach the father even though he is having trouble walking. A flashback of FIVE MINUTES AGO shows Philip crying for his dad and Oz promising he will bring back his said daddy. The father is not feeling very grateful as he tries to shoot Oz. Oz screams some more, saying that the man should never had made a contract with a Chain since he had Philip in his life. Crazy father starts acting crazy saying that he has done this ALL for Philip. The father wanted to go back and redo the sad parts of their lives, so Philip could have a better life. Oz continues to advance towards the man and grabs him by the collar. He shakes the man, saying that Philip only wanted to be with his father, that being by his side was enough. They should have moved forward and not focused on the sad past.
A picture falls from the man and it is the same picture that Philip has. When Oz notes that Philip has that same picture too the father seems to soften. Gilbert wakes up and misreads the situation (since dad is still holding a gun). Oz stands in front of him and orders Gilbert not to shoot. Then the dad has a bullet in the head and everyone has shock face on. Oz thinks back to his promise to Philip and tries to save the body as it is dragged into the Abyss. But it is too late and caterpillar monster and the father are both lost. Oz’s mark starts to glow again and it forces Alice to transform against her will. Gilbert runs over and uses his power (WTF) to stop Oz and Alice. Oz is not pleased with Gilbert but Gilbert explains that he did not shoot the man. A man from the shadows appears and says he shot the man, as he thought Oz was in danger. Echo is with the man and Gilbert calls him Vincent. Despite the unfriendly (and loud) atmosphere, Gilbert wants to get Oz somewhere safe and asks Vincent for help.
They end up at Sharon’s house since Gilbert did not want to go back to the Nightray house. Break appears in the room and Vincent decides that they should leave as they are not welcome. During the walk to the door Vincent mentions the fact that he and Gilbert are related. Gilbert is off having a sad attack because he could not protect Oz. Sharon says some flowery words and says that Gilbert should tell Oz who he really is. Oz is off in another part of the house feeling bad for himself. He thinks about how his own father didn’t want him and he wanted to save Philip from that kind of sad fate. Alice walks in half naked and talks about how Oz’s anger surprised her. Alice says that she is a Chain and as such she can’t understand all human emotion that well. But she does know what it is like to be cold and for that she will also feel sorry for Philip. On the way to the door Break smiles and says it seems like the caterpillar monster was released on purpose so someone could accidentally kill him by…protecting a child perhaps? Break promises if such a person exist in Pandora he will hunt them down. Vincent smiles and tells him good luck. The end!
Again most of this episode takes place in the span of five minutes. But unlike last week this episode seem to flow better and didn’t feel full of fluff and filler.
I want to know who that man in Oz’s head is. Clearly I was smoking something when I thought that his father and head talking dude were the same person. Now that dude might be Alice’s father still…but that dude might be Vincent. I only say might because if I say for sure I will be wrong and look special. But I am always special. But it looks like head talking dude might be wearing earrings like Vincent. We shall see I guess.
I was rolling my eyes when Philip’s dad said he did this all for his son. Right, because I want someone to change my horrible past by killing innocent people (or maybe not so innocent people?). In any event, unless Philip’s mom was murdered and Philip’s dad killed the murderers I would be feeling very crummy if I were Philip. Granted stealing their money/house was a very evil thing to do, the punishment must fit the crime. Getting eaten by a giant caterpillar monster is not really justice at work.
And despite Oz trying to make this all about him and his dad, his words were really true. His dad should not have focused on changing the past. He still had his son and apparently a job/source of income. So while yes it sucks majorly that he lost his house and money. It was tragic that perhaps a different treatment could have saved his wife’s life. But he still had his son. And his son was happier now (well, despite dead momma) that his father could spend more time with him. The kid didn’t need servants and a big house. He just needed his dad and his father was so wrapped up in providing for his son…he couldn’t provide for his son.
I was a little upset that Oz was getting through to that guy. I understand that Oz is 15 and lives in a world of everything might work out if we try hard enough. That and Oz was mainly focusing on helping Philip, not redeeming that man. None of that really mattered though because once the father had a shred of goodness/remorse in him he got a bullet in the eye. So justice might have occurred but slightly dramatic. Not that I am complaining.
As much as Oz was pissed that man was dead I wasn’t mad at Gilbert killing him (even though he didn’t). Gilbert’s first concern should and is Oz’s safety. So what if that means you shoot a few criminals in the head. A lot of criminals are parents so we can’t be having bleeding hearts over killing murders who have adorable kids.
But Gilbert is a softie at heart and wouldn’t hurt Oz like that. Because protecting Oz means more than making sure bullets don’t end up in his leg. He also has to make sure Oz’s delicate soul is not having an emo attack in the corner. I don’t think Gilbert cares whether or not Oz hates him but he does care if Oz hates himself. And Oz would hate himself if he let Philip’s dad died. So even though Gilbert knew that guy needed to die, he spared the father to protect Oz.
I think that Oz focused a little too much on his own situation. He was comparing his father to Philip’s father and it really isn’t the same thing at all. Oz’s father ignored him, wished he wasn’t born, and called him filth. Philip’s father was just distant. So while both situations are sad they are not related at all and I hate it when people compare apples to oranges. It seems like a cheap way to bring up the past over and over again.
No, fathers typically don't make contractors with giant caterpillars and run around killing people. The more you know...
But it doesn’t change the fact that Oz is a sweet boy and only wishes for everyone to be happy and eating cake at the end of the day. Enough picking on his gentle heart!
Vincent and Gilbert being related was shocking…and then not so much. When Gilbert announced that he belonged to another family now and is somewhat important now I assumed he had been adopted. Like the family needed an heir and took on Gilbert after the events of 10 years ago. But clearly I am wrong like always. Gilbert must have belonged to this family all along and lost his memories before being discovered by Oz’s family. I am sure that Vincent will turn out to be the proper heir and feels threaten that Gilbert might be taking his sunshine. Jealously issues are on the way.
Break seems to be put off about Vincent’s….Vincentness. He has a grudge so it makes him more interesting of a character. Of course he does not care about the dead man or the Chain. He only cares that Vincent has some secrets and whether or not this will hurt Oz later. Congratulations on becoming creepier Break. XD
Alice really didn’t have much to do in this episode. But instead of being spazzy that Oz stopped her mid attack she realized he was feeling crummy and just sat there with him. The moment was sweet and it made them both look like scared and small child and not powerful weapons.
Next week I am looking forward to Gilbert explaining his past and Oz somehow finding the resolve to stop all this craziness. Or at the very least I want Oz to not be so sad. I am not asking for a completely comical episode, but something uplifting would be nice. Please?
