Has some hope!

Last review and final thoughts on Kannagi

The episode opens up with Nagi…at the crazy people’s house from last episode X_X The couple who own the house are talking about how Nagi claims to be a friend of grandma and such. The wife tries to cheer up Nagi but she sorta fails at it. Tsugumi is shocked about the information that Nagi is gone and demands to know what Jin is planning to do about it. Jin gets pissed off and throws his shoes around and leaves. Tsugumi is depressed at school and doesn’t want to tell Shino and Takako what is really going on. During class a female student reads a passage from a random book but apparently it hits home with Tsugumi. She starts thinking about her childhood with Jin and how she has always been with him. Jin is having a rough day at school and is not very pleased when Tsugumi waits for him after school. But she pulls to the swing set anyway to talk. Jin explains that it was a misunderstanding and Nagi is the one who chose to leave. Tsugumi gets all upset and tells Jin it is HIS fault. He is the one who is running away by not confronting his feelings about Nagi and how he really misses her. She calls him a coward and that if he wants her back he has to go find her. Somehow that touches Jin and off her goes. With Tsugumi’s help and the obsessed people posting Nagi updates on her message board Jin manages to locate Nagi in a field. He demands to know what she lied about, then goes on to explain that it is about how she doesn’t know whether or not she is a god. Jin tells her it doesn’t matter if she knows or not but he believes she is a god. He tells her it does not matter if she can’t remember, that he will be here for her. Nagi starts to cry and states she has no self confidence in herself and she is just so confused inside about who she is.

After Nagi calms down a young woman approaches them. She grabs Jin and explains to him she can now tell him more about the town. She points to several locations and tells him where things use to be located. Nagi even adds her own memories to this conversation. The woman goes on to explain she tried to kill herself when she was younger but the tree limb broke. It was too thick to break on its own and the woman claims it was Nagi the land god who did it. The woman smiles and says that she saw Nagi when she was born and now that she has died and will reflect on her life before she is reborn. She walks way and Jin is like wtf. They walk back to the crazy couples house and funeral is going on…for grandma. Nagi wonders if it is okay to refer to herself as a god just because that old woman did. Jin states that he does not have all the answers but they can find out together. They hold hands and go home. When they get there they find that their crazy friends have left a string of crazy messages on the phone. They both smile and Nagi decides to take a bath. Jin…loses his mind and decides that NOW after all this time taking a bath is sexy and goes insane thinking about sexy Nagi even though Zange is singing so badly in the back ground. During Jin’s crazy time Nagi realizes she has left her change of clothes in another room. She is sorta panicky about leaving the bathroom in just a towel but she tries to bolt. Of course she runs into Jin and he falls on her while she is practically naked….and there is almost a moment. Then Tsugumi walks in and after witnessing the scene starts banging her head on the wall and runs away. Nagi then beats Jin up for being a pervert and all is well in the world.

WAI!!!! The series is over. It seemed to go by very fast and I wonder where the time went. Well, at least I can be happy that it ended well for everyone. Or at least as well as Jin’s life can get.

NO TEARS NAGI!

Let’s start with this episode. I am glad Tsugumi stepped up and told Jin he needed to do something about his life. He was being all woe is me and he had the power to change it. Granted she was harsher than she needed to be as she did not know he already looked for her…but hey it worked didn’t it?!I enjoyed her little memory flashback and we got to see what kind of trouble Jin got in when they were younger. What a violent little chair thrower! I think her stretching that story read in class was also a bit much but it got her thinking about Jin and made the situation right. She was the pushy friend this week and not the mother figure and that is what I wanted.

X_X aren't those heavy?

And of course things ended badly for her. She may not have realized that she was pushing Jin to Nagi…well she really shouldn’t have thought that since she was under the impression they were siblings…but she did. And now she is scared for life. I thought the funniest part of the entire show…perhaps even the entire SERIES was Tsugumi “banging” her head against the wall. Watching her go back and forth with the look of utter disbelief on her face was almost too much for my eyes to handle! It was almost like she was trying to convince herself it wasn’t happening and she was banging the image out of her head. Then she runs off into the night crying her eyes out. I thought it was a little bit special that she didn’t know why she was crying but we can chalk that up to extreme trauma to her head. Tsugumi loses, how sad.

And that way....

Nagi is alive! WOOT! She is not dead in a ditch somewhere with a cat eating her eyelids (cats are awesome pets). I almost went x_X when Nagi was hiding at the crazy family’s house but it made sense so it is okay. Nagi was confronted with the fact she knew nothing about herself and I can see why she just ran. She had been running from the truth along so all she knew how to do was run. I am not sure if she was crying out of relief that Jin accepted her or crying because of the fact she doesn’t know who she is…but at least she got it all out. I know it won’t change her situation, but once you have that big cry it is easier to move on and try to be a stronger person.

Jin wins for not messing this up!

I think Nagi talking to the “old lady” was excellent for the overall plot. Granted it was mainly for Jin to hear and assume that Nagi is actually a god(ess) but it was necessary. I am very glad that Nagi is not a suicide victim like Jin was thinking. Also extra points for no one else being a suicide victim too. I am not sure if Nagi is an actual god(ess) or not but she apparently is a nice spirit who saved people’s lives and continues to protect the earth. She can call herself a god(ess) in my book.

I love how Nagi is just looking at them both :) Like a proud mother.

Jin…is special. I wasn’t really buying his he missed Nagi because every day was fun line. It was actually a little bit disturbing to see him so happy. I guess it the midst of all his sadness he forgot sometimes things really did suck. Like falling out of a window. It’s okay to not like every single moment you are with someone. I think it is better that way because then you appreciate the good moments better. It felt too much like a reach and I think Jin being honest with himself would have been better.

Happy Jin is scary looking.

What an awesome cell charm :)

I do have to give him props for not passing out and dying when he talked to old lady who was now young lady who is now dead lady. He has really matured since his days of watching Nagi hatch from the ground. That or he is so use to all this craziness it doesn’t bother him anymore. He was at least able to converse with this woman until she walked away and then was like…wtf happened…

Instead he focused on what was actually important.

The phone messages from all their friends were great. Every single one of them is insane. Well, maybe not Akiba but then again the very nature of his hobby deems him insane to the general public. Even if he is the most normal one. Daitetsu’s was the funniest…well because he is Daitetsu and everything he seems to do is amplified by at least 1000 percent. I wonder what was so important that he had to talk to Jin about….In any event, it was a nice scene with Nagi and Jin listening to the messages and experiencing a happy glowy moment.

Wtf?

MMM sense of humor :)

Then the show has to end with a perverted scene because that is how the series started. While I am not a fan of the over the top MOG SEXY scenes I think in this case it was okay to end with that kind of scenario. It made the series come full circle. I think that Jin did go a little bit far with the perverted thoughts while she was shower. I mean, did he do that every time she was in the bathroom or was he just now aware of his feelings? I am not a teenage boy and I do not know have an out of control penis so I guess I wouldn’t understand such matters. But I liked the MOG I am on top of you naked scene better than his over the top turn on just thinking about it scene. Because I am special that way.

Photobucket
Can you will them away like that?

So….no more Kanangi. Over all I think it was a pretty good series.

Sadness :(

The one thing that is going to bother me is Zange. There was no closure with this situation. They promised to get rid of Zange from the host’s body and they didn’t. It ends with Zange getting her C.D. deal and sucking horribly at it. No mention on how they are going to fix this situation or how the father is going to react to it. I think that this issue was really not touched on very much in the series. When the father appeared in episode 11 it was to talk about Nagi and not his daughter. I don’t like issues being unresolved.

The song so sucked.

There could have been more impurity hunting, but I think when Jin brought up the fact that Nagi had been slacking on her task it covered that issue. That and it really wasn’t all that interesting. They were just little bugs. Had they been BIG BUGS or things actually hurting people I would understand giving that issue more screen time. After all is said and done maybe it was better to just KNOW that Nagi hunts the little impurities and not show her doing it all the time.

I do like that Nagi’s ability was explained…slighty. She has the power to protect people and she is with them when they die. That explains the dead kitten scene :( and her protecting Daitetsu on the mountain. I am glad that got explained or it was going to bug me to no end.

I like how Nagi and Jin’s relationship is kinda up in the air. They know things are different and yet they are still the same (with her threatening to kill him all the time). Sometimes you do not need to end a series with a definite answer and it is better to leave things to the imagination. They care for each other and that is all that matters to them and to everyone who watched this series.

Photobucket
Left up in the air my left foot!

I don’t feel as if this series needs a season two UNLESS it covers Zange. That actually could be an OVA or something because I think 13 episodes summed this series up quite nicely. CONGRADS KANNAGI! Most of the time I hate 13 and under series. You were a pretty good little series and I shall miss blogging about you. Now….Nagi figurines please!
