Zetsuen no Tempest episode 9: The episode of faces

Hello there readers! Post number 2 is ready to go! Did I say I was full of salad? Because now I want to eat some fudge. And watch some Christmas specials. They need to spread out the good specials better so we aren't stuck with boring days. Or days when Cars is considered a special. Or the Grinch should come on everyday. Lets go with that one. XD

Um you forgot about ME!
Episode Summary: Samon continues to talk about how Hakaze is dead in the present and her island is a time bubble. Outside Natsumura has left the shield and is taking on the army guys alone. Since their clan can only use defensive magic he focuses on making shields for himself and offering up the tanks to the Genesis Tree. Problem solved yes? The commander of the operation grows upset as they prepared for this attack yet the mages are turning out to be too powerful. Natsumura makes a lot of progress but is caught off guard when Evangeline shows up with talismans and a headband of her own. Battle time? Back inside Samon explains that the doll Mahiro is holding is probably the original doll and the second one was destroyed a long time ago. Meaning that the dolls are the same one and connected to each other as there was nothing else to connect with. Mahiro agrees this makes sense. Hakaze starts yelling that Samon needs her in case all this goes wrong and Samon says while he is conservative in his ideas he decided to risk her being dead for the sake of the world. Hakaze starts to lose faith again as her false big brother Junichirou confirmed this was her skeleton. Mahiro decides there is nothing they can do for Hakaze if she is dead and throws away the talking doll advice into a puddle. This deeply upsets Yoshino who stands by watching. Samon explains that since the boys have lost they should leave their talismans behind and leave quietly. Mahiro is like haha EFF THAT this was my plan the entire time. Mahiro was always willing to switch sides if that meant finding Aika's killer. Samon panics at first, thinking that the entire fate of the world is resting on some crazy boys wish. But when Mahiro reveals that he wants to find his sister's killer Samon is like well that is easy. Even when Mahiro reveals that the killer is within the clan Samon agrees to the terms, not wanting a murderer in their midst. Samon calls Tetsuma to get on finding the killer.

X___X Why are we fighting each other?
Yoshino watches the scene and thinks how ….Mahiro is still stead fast in his revenge idea even though the entire world has gone crazy. But Yoshino picks up the communication doll as he can't just throw Hakaze away like this. Suddenly Yoshino remembers back to that vacation with Aika. She was quoting Hamlet again, talking about how this point in the play Yoshino and Mahiro would be killing each other. Yoshino gets upset and doesn't want to talk about that sad play. So Aika says what about another play about revenge and a mage on island that ends with everyone being happy? Suddenly Yoshino knows what to do. He starts throwing flash bangs at Mahiro trying to steal the gun. Mahiro is like wtf and Samon tries to stop Yoshino as he wants to deal with an unreasonable Mahiro than an unknown Yoshino. Mahiro goes out of his way to protect Yoshino despite being pissed. Yoshino makes it up to the bones and says that the reason why they are there is to help a young girl who died. But Hakaze is also a young girl slated to die and it would be wrong not to protect her. Yoshino says that if they could save Hakaze would it be possible for Mahiro to switch sides again? Mahiro states that it doesn't matter which mage he supports as long as he gets his answers. Yoshino says that he will add in the information on who Aika's boyfriend was if Mahiro helps Hakaze out. Mahiro has a moment and then agrees to listen to Yoshino's plan on how to bring Hakaze back. Samon loses his mind as he seems to know what Yoshino's plan is and that this is all getting pretty special. Hakaze herself can't seem to understand how the entire logic of the world is resting in the hands of a dead girl named Aika. THE END!

Time to recap the last 5 minutes of the previous episode in this one weee!
It is weird how so little is put into this episode and yet I still walk away enjoying it. Maybe that is the point. That the show is based on action and the raw emotions of all the crazy people experiencing all of this. Like a classic movie that has dramatic stopping points and what not. Maybe what Blood-C was trying to achieve but failed miserably at.

You already said that!
With that said there is a lot of repetition of conversations. Yes Hakaze is dead. Yes that pile of bones is her. Yes Junichirou confirmed this was her body. Yes yes we already know all of this. Move on so we can find out more interesting things that will blow our minds.
Photobucket
Is he having a seizure?
Plus the more we move the conversation along the more faces Samon will make. Did you all see his face?! I mean the fact that when he had conversations with himself the screen got purple was hilarious in itself. But then he was all WFT every other minute and it was side splitting fun. Not that you can really blame Samon. He has had this entire thing planned out for years and suddenly unstable boy comes and ruins it all with his vision of logic. Still Samon. Thanks for providing the laughs.

Okay it was hard focusing on Yoshino when Samon kept doing this!
Yoshino has also lost Aika yet his reaction to the situation is so different from Mahiro. I think I can understand both of their point of views. I mean...as harsh as it is to not care about the entire world in Mahiro's mind he has nothing left to live for. The world has done him wrong so eff you world. But Yoshino's point of view is a more Disney friendly one. Yes bad things happened but we have to care about people, like those poor boys they failed to protect. Maybe Yoshino realizes that Aika wouldn't want this to happen for her sake and is trying to live for her. So two different point of views.
Photobucket
Poor Hakaze. :*( All thrown away.
That and how can you not feel bad for Hakaze? Yeah magic is super crazy but no one deserves to learn that they are actually dead and are living in the past. Just to throw her in a puddle because she is no longer useful is just so sad. I am glad that Yoshino realizes how similar Aika's and Hakaze's situations are. People keep saying that Yoshino is such a dark character and even I have stated he seems rather emotionally cut off. But this episode he seemed like a real person.

Someone is having a bad day. Or 2 years ago day.
Hakaze fell apart in this episode and that was understandable too. She tried to reason with herself why this wasn't happening and when given all the information accepted it. The whole doll communication device sorta drove it home for me too. Even though Hakaze can see the fight.....but yes Hakaze fell apart and didn't have it in her to blame Mahiro. She realizes that whatever she does now is useless and has no more power over the crazy boy.
Photobucket
Screw you loyalties!
Mahiro is insane right? As I stated earlier Samon's many faces were amusing to watch. Well most of them came from Mahiro. The reasons anyway. Everyone, Samon, Hakaze, and Yoshino watched as one person trying to get revenge for their not so related sister's death. The entire world has gone crazy with eyeball fruit, stone people, and an all out war on mages and this blond hair punk was single handedly ruining or controlling everything. At this point I would doubt any logic existed in the world if Mahiro is the one in charge.
Photobucket
Is Aika the trump card Samon has?
I am still holding out hope that the reason behind Aika's murder will be the reason for this whole show. It has taken over Mahiro's life and made everything possible but I want it to be something bigger. Like surprise Aika was really related to Hakaze and Aika killed herself in order for all of this to have a “happy ending”. If she was a mage that would make sense yes? And would explain why she died so peacefully.
Photobucket
At this point I am going to guess she is actually the damn tree who took the form of a human to help the world.
In our Aika flashback of the day...things actually mattered! Yoshino told Aika that quoting Hamlet and comparing that tragedy to their lives really doesn't make him happy. Which I agree with. The Aika and her Shakespeare loving self suggests a different play. The Tempest. A play in which everyone lives happily ever after. A play whose plot is mirroring what is going on in Yoshino's life. Now I might argue that happiness is relative as Aika is dead but I guess it is better than Hamlet.
Photobucket
Wait do you have planned?
Whatever Yoshino has planned has Samon running scared. But even with Yoshino's pleas to help Hakaze Mahiro was still like um no don't care. Which I guess makes sense given his character. It would make no sense if he just went oh okay now I am a changed person, I have seen the light. Mahiro is still thinking about himself and his revenge and switching sides won't gain him anything different so peace out Hakaze.
Photobucket
What is this all about?
Despite all of that though Mahiro was protecting Yoshino. For all purposes it looked like Yoshino turned on him Mahiro protected Yoshino from Samon. Mahiro might act like he has nothing in this world but it seems as if he cares for Yoshino in some weird way. Mahiro really didn't have that many people in his life and despite how they came together Yoshino seems special to him. Maybe I am wrong though.
Photobucket
I can't work around crazy!
Or or...Mahiro really wants to know if Yoshino was Aika's boyfriend. When Yoshino made that part of the deal Mahiro just froze. It made me think....does he REALLY not know that it was Yoshino? The entire series there seems to be little hints that Mahiro knows and he is just waiting, dying for Yoshino to confess to him. But what if Mahiro really doesn't know and Yoshino has just been feeling guilty. That would be....wow right? To me though it would make more sense if Mahiro really just wants to know the truth, for Yoshino to confess. I don't know how that factors into protecting Yoshino from Samon. I guess he can't learn the truth if the boy is dead right?
Photobucket
I think the word logic has been murdered in this show.
This is all madness though. Dead girls all over the place, the fate of the world, and fighting trees are starting to make sense and someone's one track mind is illogical. Despite being 248938 episodes behind on everything else I want to see the next episode already! I want to see what Yoshino has planned in regards to bringing back Hakaze. Not that Mahiro cares. ......And that, my friend, is only the BEGINNING of the plot twist. Have a blast! LOL

Hello @Christina

Hmmmm, this all feels "rushed" in regards with the plot. I think it would be better if the writer(s) spread the plot twists evenly among all the episodes instead of concentrating them on a few. I don't know. It feels like the writers are trying to end the series even when we're nine episodes into the show. And then what? Who will be the new villain after Samon (if he's qualified as such)? The ultimate evil that is responsible for everything a.k.a. Dark Aika? How many episodes are there in this show? I tried to wiki or google the answer but so far, nothing concrete.

They're making allusions to Hamlet. I read Hamlet and seen many films based on it. I would agree with the general consensus that Hamlet acted like he was forced to watch Black Rock Shooter EVERYDAY and the Tiny Rainbow Bird book ruined his childhood (I loled at the comment, Christina! XD). If the writers wanted to go into dark literature, then they should have just copied Edgar Allen Poe's books of depression or Nietzsche's rant-essay on everything. Yeah, that'll be fun for the audience. If there was an audience after episode 1! LOL

Still many plot twists coming up. And still more questions will be asked. I'll give my final thoughts on the last episode, which is soon I guess.

I still wonder how Hakaze will get off the Island of Time? Maybe Doctor Who will save her and set everything right. LOL! That would be a cool and crazy crossover!

You hear that, Zetsuen writers? I just gave you an awesome idea! LMAO!

All right, that's my thoughts for Zetsuen.

Second anonymous here again

Forgot to add:

I do feel sorry for Hakaze. To have that doll thrown in the puddle was heart wrenching. That doll probably kept her sanity intact since she was alone on the Island of Time and was her only link to people. Glad that Yoshino man up and saved it.

Anonymous- Behold the plot twists!!! Maybe there will be something with what the trees really are. Because I am pretty sure fruit shouldn't have eyeballs. XD

Anonymous 2- I do feel like this just BAMMED into our laps. I guess that is what makes it a plot twist. Everything was just moving along and while Samon never seemed too evil and we were TOLD flat out Hakaze was dead a few episodes back it really didn't prepare us for this. The pace is going to get kicked up a few notches isn't it?

High school was about a million years ago for me so I sorta remember Hamlet. Sorta. They have taken some liberties obviously but I think the overall theme of EVERYONE IS INSANE goes well with this show. Not as insane as Tiny Rainbow Bird on repeat but still insane. I wish they would slide in the references to Hamlet in a little more smoothly. Not HELLO I AM QUOTING HAMLET!

Hakaze being thrown away was so sad. But she knew Mahiro wasn't a great person and that she was unable to help. I wouldn't blame her for getting upset but her being defeated and not mad at Mahiro showed how deeply everything was effecting her yet remaining strong at the same time. If that makes any sense.
