YAWN!!!! Time for bed. Gotta get ready for a hopefully busy day tomorrow. Enjoy my sad post I wrote a million years ago. XD Shin Sekai Yori episode 13. Spoilers for it being cold.
Snow? Cold? CRAZY TALK!
Episode Summary: Maria and Saki row on over to where they think Mamoru ran away. Maria bounces around like a snow rabbit while Saki steers her little skies. They break up and start searching the nearby area. Saki stops in particular to look at a building, like she has figured something out. Maria bounces all over the place and generally freaks out that she can't find Mamoru. Saki finally realizes when Satoru arrives that they should be looking for other tracks other than footprints. Sure enough they find sleigh tracks from a small vehicle the kids receive in their lower education. They believe Mamoru is running away for good due to the fact he is carrying so much. The kids figure that Mamoru is making slow time as he is carrying too much and that they will eventually be able to find him. They leave the sacred barrier area and head towards the mountains. Soon they realize that a QueerRat was following Mamoru which makes the kids start to feel uneasy. The trail takes them up a mountain, a place that Mamoru wouldn't go unless he was being chased. The trail almost goes cold until Saki reveals that Mamoru went down the cliff with his sled. Maria starts using her powers like crazy until Saki and Satoru calm her down. They find the sleigh but no Mamoru. Maria thinks that Mamoru is further down the mountain while the other two are like....this is too planned.
Satoru is trying to apply logic to the situation folks.
Soon they find more tracks, one of an animal and one of drag marks. According to Maria that means he has been eaten. Satoru is like look at the drag marks, he is alive. They walk along and find Mamoru in a little cave all safe like. That doesn't stop the kids from attacking the QueerRat that walks in. Mamoru walks up and says this is the little guy that Saki saved a long time ago near the river. The QueerRat in question says he had to save Mamoru since he is one of the gods and leaves to bring more supplies. Maria is like okay what is going on running away boy. Mamoru says he ran away because he has been flagged for death. Maria dismisses Mamoru as he talks about how the teacher hates him and he doesn't get the best grades in class. He talks about a few days ago he was walking along and thought something was following him. All he saw was the huge shadow but he knows it was a Killer Cat. Everyone is like hmmmm tell us more. Apparently yesterday Mamoru was asked by the teacher to do a weird task away from the other students. Mamoru was nearly attacked by a Killer Cat again and that is when he decided to run away. Mamoru talks about how he is going to be killed like Reiko and “Shun” and that he saw the Killer Cats before but that memory has been taken away. Suddenly Maria believes that Mamoru is knockin on heaven's door and starts crying. Satoru notes that Mamoru is an average student, skittish, and listens to authority. Not someone who should be targeted for death. Maria demands to know what Saki thinks and adult Saki explains that at the time no one knew what to do for Mamoru. THE END!
You just slept through the boring parts. It will be okay.
I probably wrote way too much summary there folks. Like way too much. I should have said....Saki, Maria, and Satoru go into the woods to look for Mamoru. Maria had varying degrees of emotions, all of which made the finding Mamoru process not so easy. They find out that a QueerRat rescued Mamoru and has given him shelter. And Mamoru explains that he didn't run away over a lame joke Maria made, he actually is being stalked by a KillerCat. The other kids have varying degrees of is this real life? THE END!
Wake me up when it gets interesting.
See how much easier is that? Instead I get all wordy and crazy. Although my abbreviated version was a bit sarcastic wasn't it? I am happy though that Mamoru didn't run away over a lame joke. That would have made my mini synopsis even more...special. More WHAT THE HELL?!
I hate snow. Just throwing that out there.
Most of the episode was dedicated to finding Mamoru. Duh. So there wasn't really much going on but watching the kids go through white snow. And I really do mean it when I said Maria's jumping around was distracting. I feel as if she has been the most showy kid thus far. But I think if Shun was still alive he wouldn't have been bouncing around. He would have been gliding faster than Satoru and Saki but not bunnying it. With Maria she is always floating around or doing something to draw attention to her. Yet Shun was always the better student.
Keep it together girl.
So what is up with Maria? I thought early on she was the older, mature one. Mainly because that is how Saki saw her and spoke of her. She just seem like she was going to be the voice of reason. Shun was going to be the know it all and she was going to be the only kindly trying to steer the group in safer directions. But now she has shown another side. That she is not as mature as she looks. She rather be left in the dark too. When she was telling Saki not everyone is strong and they needed to protect Mamoru....maybe she was talking about herself too.
More looking less talking about luggage!
Not that I would fault Maria for being a normal person who lives in this insanity village. I just thought she was going to be one way and she is acting another. I can see how Saki and Satoru could have gotten annoyed at her. Just because I understand her actions doesn't mean they weren't annoying. There is no time for panicking! And if you want to panic don't yell at the people not panicking because they are trying to find Mamoru. Overall Maria is a confused 14 year old girl who isn't amazing like Saki and seems to care A LOT about Mamoru.
Well this is a change....
Satoru is very smart. Saki had several moments of AHA too but overall Satoru seems to be the one who puts things together rather fast. Maybe he didn't have a chance to shine with Shun always being right and Saki always shooting Satoru down. It would be nice if when Satoru said something right that he would pause and Saki would go to open her mouth. Just because their memories have been altered doesn't mean their bodies don't remember how things used to be. That would really cement the fact that the kids are struggling with their memory loss.
Um Maria...Saki is asking good questions. Be quiet.
Also I would like to see eventually or Saki acknowledge that other groups of kids are going through the same things they are. Not as much obviously since Saki has been hand picked to handle the awfulness of the world. She is better at handling the awful. But maybe other groups spend time going WOW weren't there more of us? Why is so and so absent? Like if Saki said at the end of the series “And my story is not unique. So much suffering in my own class and I never even knew it...:” I would appreciate that.
Attack first, ask questions later.
So snow, Maria being a little less than helpful, and Satoru keeping his cool. Now maybe these kids should have been more ready for an attack. Yes it turns out that Mamoru was not kidnapped or eaten. But that could have been a different QueerRat walking in. Or maybe one QueerRat was dragging Mamoru and the others were going Jurassic Park on their asses. Clever Girls. But never fear, Saki and her kind act a few years helped Mamoru out.
Maybe Mamoru does enough crying for everyone....
Okay Mamoru. Explain what is going on so Maria can cry on you more and give you some rescue sex. At first Mamoru's story was sounding kinda...special. Like oh you got a little scared and ran away to cause everyone pain. You will laugh about it and everyone will walk home only to find the village burnt to the ground. That is how my mind works folks.
I always feel like somebody's watching meeeeeeeee
Then Mamoru kept talking and put to rest everyone's thinking that he was crazy. No no folks I know a lot more than I am letting on. Maybe Mamoru cries the most because out of everyone he is the weakest and he knows it. Satoru made a good point though, this society wants people who follows rules and keep secrets. Saki isn't strong with her powers either and yet she is recommended for a position, not up for killing.
X___X How many kids actually make it to adulthood?
Well that and Ms. Granny said that Saki was spared due to her position and I thought that meant her friends as well. Like well ya'll should have been killed but since you are so magical Saki everyone is spared. I think that is what Saki thought too. But clearly Mamoru did something to get put on the death list. He is being followed and then was nearly killed at school? This teacher was hard core! Was this all a lesson for Saki? See life is hard and this is a test to see if you realize this was for the greatest good? Not really following the logic of the Killer Cats stalking their prey first. Just kill the kid and erase the memories of everyone else, seems like a more logical idea.
This would be Maria FINALLY getting it.
So where do we stand now? Maria seems to be the most upset, Mamoru isn't getting rescued, Satoru is trying to think of a way to protect everyone, and Saki is probably feeling guilty since she knows a lot more than the other kids. I always wonder how she deals with these secrets inside. Like um guys yeah...I know what is going on. She just has so much on her plate with the missing memories and knowing the truth and OH my sister is dead. Clearly this group is not meant to be and this school is going to run out of kids. Cheer up Saki. At least you make it?...Yeah poor Mamoru.
