XO Just hurry up and read about this episode. Spoilers for Yoshino being amazing or creepy!
Episode Summary: Everyone is waiting for Yoshino to announce how to bring back Hakaze. Only there is a dramatic pause and he questions if Hakaze is even dead. Samon and his many faces are like WHAT as Mahiro toys around with the gun expecting more of an explanation. Samon keeps pointing to the bones and saying that there is no denying that Hakaze died two years ago. CAN'T YOU SEE! Yoshino starts talking about logic and how their magic has the foundation of logic. How is time travel logical? No no it would make more sense if Samon was tricking them and Hakaze was still alive somewhere. But Hakaze didn't know the correct date, she thinks it is two years ago Samon and Mahiro bring up. Yoshino says it would be easier to trick Hakaze into thinking it was two years later than risk killing her and having the ceremony going wrong. Even Hakaze says that she doesn't know the right date but Yoshino says that Hakaze has only been counting the days she has been on the island, not the time it took her to get there after Samon kidnapped her. Samon starts having an inner (well he thinks) freak out because Yoshino is wrong and is swaying Mahiro with lies. Yoshino starts playing with the skeleton talking about how everything is lies and they need to bring Hakaze here. Mahiro and Hakaze acknowledge that there are holes in Yoshino's theory but he sounds convincing. Mahiro decides he is going to blast the tree and find a way to bring Hakaze there so she can find the killer.
Samon is like MADNESS and says that Yoshino hasn't proven shit. Yoshino is like well you haven't proven anything either and what? Samon says that he will prove that Hakaze is actually dead. He says that the barrel near Hakaze and the barrel the skeleton is sitting are the same barrel. He has Yoshino ask Hakaze to write something on the barrel. If it appears it is the same barrel and if it doesn't Hakaze is still alive. Hakaze writes a word and it appears on the bottom of the barrel. Samon laughs in victory as Yoshino seems defeated. Suddenly Hakaze decides that if Samon was acting this insane there must be a way to bring her back. All the pieces of the puzzle are put together, that Samon knew that Hakaze might find help on the mainland and came up with an elaborate scheme in case the helpers made it this far. The whole two years later reveal would cripple both the helpers and Hakaze and make them not continue on. But now Hakaze knows the freak out means she can leave the island somehow and Samon was just trying to distract her. Hakaze tries to thank Yoshino and urge him to keep on going. Mahiro smirks as he sees Yoshino's reaction. Samon nearly melts as he comes to the realization that Yoshino knew the entire time his theory was probably wrong and all the talking was done to force certain reactions out of people. With a spear fight and bombs going on in the background Hakaze and Yoshino decide to think of a way to rescue Hakaze and Mahiro is like...meh why not? THE END!
Did this show really just spend 22 minutes on a few sentences that Yoshino said? Did so little REALLY happen? Because I know I spent 22 minutes watching this show but I felt as if the characters only went through 4 minutes in their perspective. SO LITTLE HAPPENED!
But I didn't say it was boring did I? I mean it could have been boring and maybe some people thought it was. Maybe deep down I think it is too. But I am still too focused on how Samon and his many faces were outdone by a boy who had exactly 5 minutes to come up with this story/lie when Samon's grandfather started planning this like 70 years ago. Maybe the ultimate twist of this series will be HAHA it is actually going to be 2 seasons long and now we have to drag out this 20 minute conversation over 4 episodes weee!
But seriously. I know that Samon and his many faces are amusing...but I don't think he is being overdramatic at all. I think all of this purple haze and WFT faces are justified. Can you imagine if your grandfather started planning something out and it was your job to carry it through to the end and some punk kid who doesn't know a lick of magic or the situation is able to outsmart you in a matter of moments? I wouldn't be dropping my sword, I would be throwing it at someone. Myself or whoever is causing me the drama.
I ALMOST believed Yoshino. Actually I wanted to believe him because I could AHA I am right, there is no time travel and Samon is full of shit. I still think that Yoshino's theory made sense. Samon and Mahiro (well and Hakaze) both stated that Yoshino's theory really didn't prove anything. But what it did prove or at least state was that Samon's theory was full of crap too. Samon was like believe me and suffer in the knowledge you lost. But just saying that there is time travel and saying this bag of bones is Hakaze doesn't make it so. Why should we believe you?
But Yoshino turned out to be wrong. Woe is us. Well woe is Samon as Yoshino didn't really care if he was wrong or not. He probably knew he was wrong but on the off chance he was right it would be icing on the cake. He wasn't trying to solve the problem or prove Samon wrong. He was trying to make Samon sweat, give Hakaze hope to carry on, and stall Mahiro long enough to think of a real plan. All of which worked.
Does that make him the most cunning person on the planet who should be fear or is he just really, really smart and reads situations well? Hakaze and Samon were acting like he was some grand being who had overcome many hardships and the best person ever. Yoshino was smart and did figure things out rather fast but maybe that is because he is an observer. He watches people and doesn't seem to get involved. So when Samon started making his amazing faces maybe Yoshino was like OH I really should find a way to use that against him, the fact that he gets frustrated and can't hide it very well. Yoshino knows Hakaze sounds and probably acts confident most of the time, being the strongest mage out there. So all he needed to do was give her a spark of hope and she would like the fire inside herself.
But when it came to Mahiro Yoshino had to work a little harder. Because Mahiro isn't working on logic. Logic. The word of the day in this episode. In every episode actually. No Mahiro is working on revenge and one path only. He is basically not caring about anything so he must be moved in different ways. Loyalty to Hakaze, thrown in the puddle. Using Samon, well if gets the same results who cares. I guess the most amusing thing about Mahiro is that he actually acknowledges that Yoshino is probably full of crap. But Yoshino worded things in such a way that they turned into amazing pieces of crap that could be possible. Almost like Mahiro is some bored rich man who needs entertainment and has found amusement in Yoshino. Like HMMMM your words might not be true but the way you are going on and on makes me think about things. Truly you are passionate on your stance so I shall humor you for a bit. Now Mahiro is still a crazy person. The fate of the world and Hakaze's life are hanging in the balance and all Mahiro can think about is getting revenge for his not so sister who died a while ago. Thus Samon and Hakaze are like WHAT THE HELL?!
While wrong Yoshino's theories made sense. If all of this magic business has to magic logical sense how can time travel happen? Wouldn't this plan be way too complicated when there are many other ways to get the job done? Like if Samon needed to get Hakaze back here in case things went wrong it would be best to trick her into thinking it had been two years rather than coming back with her skeleton in the event Hakaze found some minions to do her bidding. Yoshino made things sound so simple while Samon really did go all out and planned things like a crazy person.
I think my favorite part of the episode though was when Yoshino looked like he was 5 and was making the skeleton pet his head. It was....so many things. The world might be ending, rockets are going off in the background, there are two dead girls, and Yoshino is making a skeleton pet his head to further undermine Samon's theories. It was hilarious and creepy and amazing.
So in the end Yoshino pretended to be upset his theory wasn't right, Samon accidentally showed his hand revealing there is a way to bring back Hakaze, Mahiro has decided to wait and see how this plays out without committing to a side, and Hakaze is like OKAY I might be dead to you but there is still time to save me so have at it. X___X An anime about saving the world indeed folks!
Oh I think there was some sort of battle going on outside. Something about unemployed girls welding weapons and trying to stall for time. I don't know, it doesn't seem that important does it? Silliness. Trees being brought back to life and chanting and the military trying to blow people up. I am sure to someone it matters. Oh and then the random not brother cousin person showed up with doughnuts. Just at random folks.
So next episode....are the boys really going to think of a way to bring Hakaze back? Samon seems to already know the reason but he has had years to plan this all out and if some plans things like this he must have planned on how things could fail. That means it will take Yoshino 8 minutes to figure out, maybe even less now that Hakaze is throwing her hat in the ring. WHERE IS AIKA! Come out and stun people into forgetting what they were doing. XD

Yep! This is all part of Yoshino's plan, and don't forget to check out what he got to say in next ep, you will NOT be disappointed.
See, I told you this anime is complex and has LOTS dramas.
Hello @Christina.
Where is Aika indeed. I hope she comes back as the true villain and everything was part of her plan to bring forth the apocalypse just for the laughs.
I already commented that Yoshino was a intellectual and manipulative character; he prefers to out think his opponents rather than engaging them head on.
Samon's faces were animated like that because the audience was having a glorious laugh. I think the animators wanted to join in on the fun too and continued drawing Samon with bizarre faces. Speaking of faces, I think the animators (of Code Geass) had lots of fun giving Lelouch fantastic faces as well when his plans failed. That show had tremendous memes within, like a character humping a table. I am not kidding! In Code Geass there was a character molesting a table! LOL! Everyone laughed at that scene because it was so weird and creepy!
You think there will be only talking for the next 4 episodes from a 20-minute dialogue? That's just too much. I mean, it's all plot twists, complexity, and exposition in this episode. Then they throw in the action scene to grab the audience's attention at the end. It makes me think of how Zetsuen no Tempest would appear as an American live action show though. I think the American audience would be bored & confused with just the characters talking non-stop about nonsense and plot twists. Ratings would plummet and critics would bash the show for being pretentious.
Well, that's all I have to say about Zetsuen.
Anonymous- Yoshino's plan is amazing...if his plan is to entertain me. XD I couldn't stop cracking up at him touching the bones. I must have paused the episode 5 times. XD
Anonymous 2- We are still waiting for Aika. Funny how everyone thinks she is going to show up despite being the only confirmed dead character. Yay for flashbacks making her very important.
I love how Samon went from confident to melting on the ground in 5 seconds. Like there was no transition. Just HAHA I win to ALL IS OVER! Good thing Hakaze is the real leader of their clan.
It is very odd to have this "final" battle stretch out so far. And then Tenchi looked online and was like 22 episodes?! And then I was told the manga was still ongoing? X___X What tricks will be in store for us here on out?
