Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun episode 8

X____X Things have been so weird lately. Work is weird, the general public has been weird, and anything I come across has been weird. I am sure that means I am weird but maybe I am wearing a shield and am immune from the weird? PSHT probably not. But a lot of weirdness folks. And weirdness seems to take up a lot of my time. :( I has been trying though folks.

Weird? Weirder than us?!
OKAY! So what is up now? Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun episode 8. Spoilers for Haru being violent again. Shocking I know.

You guys out her at the front of the house because....you didn't want to make money?
Episode Summary: It is the day of the school festival and Kenji and his friends have showed up to see what it is all about. Shizuku is the most unenthusiastic host of a horror house ever and Haru is smiling and spraying people with blood. Haru takes some of the guys to meet chicks (his chickens) while Shizuku takes a break to contemplate her relationship with Haru. She used to be firm in her decision making but now everything is all messed up and to make matters worse Haru is acting so calm. He probably won't be so calm when he sees that Yuzan has showed up to the festival. Misawa tries to convince him this isn't a good idea but it probably isn't sinking in. While Shizuku is studying and thinking Kenji keeps walking by, obviously lost. Shizuku offers to help him around but Asako walks up on the situation and assumes the worse. Asako gets all weirded as Shizuku reunites Kenji with his people. Kenji takes the opportunity to flirt with Shizuku to make Haru mad which works. Haru goes to hit Kenji but accidentally hits Shizuku instead. Everyone is silent as Shizuku glares and tells Haru to stay away. Asako runs afters Shizuku to help out and give out advice. Shizuku basically says that Haru only loves her out of convenience and to mind her own business. Asako is hurt and Kenji decides to help out instead. Shizuku probably doesn't want the advice but is forced to listen as Kenji talks about expectations and what not. They both spot Yuzan in the school and Kenji forces them to hide, apparently having past issues with Yuzan himself.

Everyone is scared of Haru anyway, what chicks would come near him?
Before anything else can happen Haru and Chizuru (kidnapped) also hide in the same room from Yuzan. Haru tries asking Chizuru for advice but it ends up sounding like he is asking her out. Chizuru tries helping out but Kenji and Shizuku accidentally reveal they are here. Then for fun Yuzan walks in the room. Outside Asako is crying over Shizuku being cold as this is her first real girl friend. For some reason Misawa is there trying to help out and give advice. Shusei walks by and sees Asako is crying. Jealously might be brewing. Back inside Haru has reacted to his brother showing up by practically chocking Chizuru as he kidnaps her again. So many students gather up to watch Haru be a crazy violent person again. After some words are exchanged Haru takes off out the window. Chizuru lives and people start departing, saying that someone needs to go help Haru/bring him his shoes. Shizuku goes and finds Haru. She basically forgives him and blames herself for some of the stuff that happened today. Shizuku then finds Asako and basically apologizes to her for the hurt feelings. The rest of the festival goes on normally with no more drama. Shizuku finds Haru sleeping alone and goes to touch his hair. He wakes up suddenly and screams that he doesn't understand her. Shizuku says that she is confused, her grades will suffer if she thinks about him, and she needs more time. Haru seems to accept all of that craziness and hugs the silly Shizuku. THE END!

Wait didn't we already go through this...
There must be a reason why I picked this show last to catch up on. For some reason I want to really like it and I find some positive qualities within the show. But then I watch closer and I go oh...well that's not very cute is it? I don't find the show boring per say...just uncomfortable at times.
Photobucket
No one does. Get with the program!
I don't know if that is me being a hypocrite or not. Maybe some MENZ should point that out to me. Because while most of the fanservice focuses on women a lot of comic violence is directed at men. I try to remind myself HEY men have it a lot better in animes, with a lot of girls just being eye candy and if the menz have it rough for once...well boo hoo for them. THE POOR MEN! After they get the girl and save the world sometimes they are slammed into the sidewalk.
Photobucket
This is totally someone I would want to date.
Saying all of that...watching the “comic” violence against Shizuku is hard for me to swallow. Maybe because it is not done in a playful way. Sure Masato is getting beat up all the time over in Little Busters! but I don't think he is really getting that hurt. Plus that show is special anyway. This show seems to be based in reality (even if everyone is insane) and in reality when someone much smaller gets punched in the nose it can be serious. This would be me trying to explain away the double standard so I don't seem wrong. Is it working?
Photobucket
No funny business. You should still be apologizing.
That and the “comic violence” is done....well accidentally and doesn't really result in the consequences I think they should. I might have mentioned this before (even in this series last time there was hitting) but a while back my husband was horsing around with me and ended up knocking the computer chair I was sitting in to the ground. It was totally an accident, he meant to catch me but I still fell. I wasn't hurt but the look on my husband's face was OH SHIT in the moment he didn't know I was okay. I had the right to be upset because it could have ended poorly but he was just horsing around all in good fun. And right after the incident he made sure I was okay and apologized about 15 times.
Photobucket
Haru is just clumsy at everything.
I don't even think Haru is accidentally hurting Shizuku. Okay he is. I know that. He is on purpose trying to hurt other people but his fists or hands always end up on Shizuku. And instead of apologizing he makes excuses. Sorries eventually make it out of his mouth but not in a timely manner. Add in the fact that Haru has put his hands on Shizuku before (grabbing her by her collar) and I would be avoiding this clown. This ain't romantic folks.
Photobucket
Can your advice be to stay away from Haru?
So maybe that is why it is hard to focus on this wonderful romance. Because while Shizuku has been cold and has been messing with Haru's feelings...this boy needs to work on his anger management issues and what not. Life will always be full of obstacles. I should know, I work with all of them. And I want to punch them in the face too. But Haru can't run around punching people and putting Shizuku in danger over some petty jealously.
Photobucket
Oh look forgiveness yay!
That is the real reason why Shizuku should avoid Haru. A real reason. Not because of the studying thing. Because I bet if she actually started dating Haru she wouldn't think about him as much. Yes usually when people start dating they become obsessed with each other and it becomes unbearable for other people to watch. But I think Shizuku's real problem is she is always on guard, thinking about the what ifs and how Haru feels and what she is trying to fight feeling. Once she lets it happen she will know what to expect. Sure her studying might suffer a bit. But she would think Haru and go back to problem solving. Study 6 days a week...date one. I think she would do things like that. Only she wants to take the difficult route. Go Shizuku.
Photobucket
Everyone needs to hug this girl. Poor thing.
I mean...I guess the person I feel bad for in all this mess is Asako! She seems like such a good girl who is trying hard to help both of her friends but she was the only one crying in this episode. This is Shizuku's and Haru's problem but she is the one crying. Of course she was really crying because her relationship with Shizuku was in trouble but still! You can see Asako is really trying to help in her own way and Shizuku is cold to her. Stop stringing people along Shizuku! This poor girl isn't used to being around people either but knows how to do it and seems to be the best friend out of this bunch.
Photobucket
Oh you wanted to be part of the drama too? Okay have at it!
Well Souhei seems nice too. Maybe. If we saw more of him that is. Souhei comes out nowhere to be...well interested Misawa presences at the festival. Maybe Souhei was jealous but it was hard to tell in that moment. He could have been upset because Asako was crying and he didn't know why. Or that all his friends ditched him at running the haunted house. So who knows. If this was an effort to make Souhei and Asako a couple maybe it should have been a little more obvious. I mean watching romances start up naturally is fine but...I don't even know if it happened or not.
Photobucket
Um....why is Chizuru being tortured?
OH SNAP! In my rant above about Haru being violent I totally forgot about Chizuru. I feel bad for her too! She was probably just walking in the hallway when all of a sudden Haru grabbed her, pulled her into a room, and lead her along with weirdly worded conversations. Then when things get bad for Haru she is taken hostage....why? What the hell happened? Yes Yuzan should not have come to the festival. That was a jerk move to do. But Yuzan walking into a room means that Chizuru has to be taken hostage? I don't even know what the hot mess was about. Chizuru needs to run away too.
Photobucket
Um can we go now?
I think I mentioned that this was a school festival episode right? Well not much school festival stuff was going on was there? We had Kenji's friends walking around having a good time but that was about it. Shizuku and Haru were horrible choices to have as main people in the haunted house and Souhei will have no money to have on the side as they probably didn't make much. XD So...the least school festivaley ever?
Photobucket
Um...that came out of nowhere?
Oh Kenji? I nearly forgot about him. It seems kinda late in the game to be adding in someone else to this love triangle. Love square. Really weird since the characters have already confessed to each other and what not. Like no there is probably not a chance of you breaking through this relationship but good luck trying. Even if Kenji is the better choice as he doesn't run away punching people.
Photobucket
I want some cotton candy now.
In conclusion I am pissed at my computer for loading things beyond slow. I am pretty sure it shouldn't take 24 minutes to load a 24 minute episode but since it took longer than that I am upset and glaring at my neighbors whom I am sure are hooked onto our internet. Or that is what I am blaming it on since the husband is asleep and I can't confirm why it is being SO SLOW. Oh the show? Yeah it was special. I see now.

Hello @Christina

Just want to be off-topic, Christina:

I've been thinking about Black Rock Shooter lately since Good Smile Company and Tetsujin inc. announced Black Rock Shooter Arcana. That's right. A new Android phone/iOS game for BRS is being developed. I know I made some references about BRS in several of your blogs, but I just want to say, that, no, you are not alone with your disappointment of the 2012 BRS show. I've read several other blogs and forum posts from anime sites that heavily criticized the show for being melodramatic and confusing. Even the ratings for that show was dismal; it tied next to Guilty Crown for disappointing shows of the season. I had a feeling that BRS 2012 would be heavily criticized. At least Guilty Crown had that, "so bad, it's good" feeling. You know, making fun of GC rifftrax style!

I don't know what went wrong with BRS. I was hoping for the BRS 2012 show to be awesome with a great storyline while still maintaining the gothic, foreboding feel of the OVA. But in the end, it became a saccharine melodrama that left fans disappointed and burned. I mean, the writers made everything too colorful, melodramatic and symbolic that the audience had to roll their eyes. I didn't particularly cared about the character designs, especially Dead Master. The original Dead Master from the OVA was an elegant queen with a darkness flair compared to the redesign. The 2012 version was just too exaggerated for my taste. I mean, the granny glasses and neon green trims don't look good on Dead Master; there are some fans who agree that the new design wasn't exciting as well. I liked the OVA's dark and gothic otherworld than the show's colorul otherworld. I can go on all day with my critique, but let just say I and many others were disappointed in the end. So, again, you are not alone in your disappointment.

I know some BRS fans would disagree with me on the anime and think it's the next best thing in the BRS franchise. That's cool. What I wrote is just my opinion and obviously people would disagree.

But seeing Black Rock Shooter Arcana being developed gives me thought of "maybe" seeing a new BRS show with better writing, great characters, interesting episodes, etc. Maybe. Just maybe.

Well, that's all on BRS.

Anonymous- Offtopicness is always welcomed. I think I live my life being offtopic. XD

I think one of the main reasons BRS failed so hard is that we were expecting so much. And I am a casual fan like OH that looks cool. I am not someone who was well versed in the franchised. I felt the OVA was not enough to grasp this overall concept. So the anime was announced and everyone thought this was a chance of redemption, a chance for the real story to shine.

Instead we get a bunch of girls who are unable to deal with rain drops and cookie crumbs. I mean really....the back drop was a book about a dead bird because it drowned in color. Things cannot go up from there. The idea of young people creating another version of themselves to deal with the pain in life seems like a cool concept and worked on ONE girl who had extreme trauma. But when some of the other girls just needed to suck it up it watered down the other world.

There are so many things to say about this show. I think I was more focused on the fascination with colors rather than how the characters looked. Although the blue "blood" and outrageous battles went over the top instead of truly being serious for me. Just a lot of disappointment and I am surprised I stuck it out. Maybe I did for the amazing crazy faces.
