X___X Perhaps I should start looking for other employment. Not because I think I am going to be fired. A shocker I know. But at this rate the entire building is going to collapse before I can piss anyone else off. A comet is going to strike the store or a random pack of dinosaurs will come by and stomp on all our brains. That is how many random and crazy things have happened this month. What can happen next folks?! It is like a pick your own ending book!
In other crazy news…it is Yuru Yuri episode 3 time! Where insane things can happen but that’s okay! They aren’t real people! Spoilers for scarf drama!
Episode Summary: Himawari and Sakurako are walking to school. Sakurako has decided that sleeping is best done during first period and wants Himawari to take notes for her. When Himawari says no Sakurako starts calling her the boobie monster. For some reason the girls serve food inside the classroom today and Sakurako makes sure she gets the most of a certain kind of nom. There is almost a meltdown when Sakurako forgot her chopsticks but Akari saves the day. Sakurako tells Himawari is useless for not being a chopstick dispensing machine. As they eat lunch they think of games they can play. They try to play Only Speak English Game but that lasts about ten seconds. There is a short lived say Cheesy Things Game but Sakurako quickly takes out a dice she made in class and has people roll it. Chinatsu says something embarrassing about Akari, Akari fails to be funny, and Himawari wins a piece of old chocolate. This leads to the girls talking about Valentine’s Day and who they are going to give chocolates to. Chinatsu asks Himawari after school if she can teach her how to make a scarf for Yui this Valentine’s Day. Sakurako skips up and demands that Himawari help her with her homework and is shocked to hear that Himawari is busy. Akari volunteers to help Sakurako but Sakurako keeps focusing on how Himawari helps and acts around her. Homework time is not successful. The next day Sakurako tells Himawari she is the personal tutor and she shall not neglect her duties. Himawari is like…I promised I would help make this scarf and that takes time. At lunch Sakurako gets pissed over all the scarf talk and Akari tries to smooth things over.
All around the city the girls are shown shopping for chocolates. Kyoko is pretty much telling Yui what to buy for her, Akari’s indecision leads her to not getting chocolates at all, and Ayano is pretending not to buy chocolates for Kyoko. Sakurako tries to do her homework by herself but that just leads to her throwing things around her room and beating herself up. Valentine’s Day comes and Yui gives Kyoko a nice box of chocolate and Kyoko hands her a candy bar. Chitose tells Kyoko that Ayano bought too many chocolates and that Kyoko can have the extra. Kyoko takes Yui’s chocolate bar and gives her half. Chinatsu skips in with a scary looking scarf and box of chocolates for Yui. It has to be blurred as to not kill the audience. Chinatsu runs and thanks Himawari for her help and Sakurako snaps. She starts crying and doesn’t understand why she is so mad that Himawari is spending all her time with Chinatsu. Himawari is like freak..and then hands her some chocolate and a scarf. Sakurako recovers quickly and declares Himawari her slave. They walk home together and Himawari acknowledges she doesn’t need a gift from Sakurako. Chitose eats her chocolates at home and makes out with her twin. Oh and Akari realizes that no one likes her at all and she received nothing. Then her sister comes in with the creepiest chocolates ever. THE END!
I…almost don’t know how to blog this episode. For once everything flowed together and it actually felt like this could possibly happen in real life. No random jumping around to various events and topics. Just….everything flowed. And now I am just so confused on what I watched.
There was a TINY bit of random conversation at lunch but I thought that was okay. Because everything needs my permission in the world. But lunch time talk among…well anyone can be random and jump around. I think the most random part of the lunch was actually them serving the food in the classroom. What was that all about? Are they running a soup kitchen or something?
So after being served it was THEN time for the random conversations. Before the topic of Valentine’s Day what was my favorite part of that? While Chinatsu is my least favorite character as she is borderline evil…when she told the embarrassing story about Akari….I laughed. LAUGHED!!! Like no one ever said who the embarrassing story had to be about. BRILLIANT!
Or should I say delicious?! Yes the part where the girls are going to practice their English was obviously funny to an English speaker. I am sure I would fair far worse in a Japanese speaking lunch so feel free to laugh at me too. XD I mean at least at a young age they are attempting to teach their kids another language. Even if they go about it in a way that makes the learning process harder. Here in the good ole U.S. of A we are like SPEAK ENGLISH OR DIE!
The topic of holidays is brought up and since Valentine’s Day is nearly here bring on the chocolate. I am always fascinated when I watch animes that include a Valentine episode. Like no matter how commercial the holiday might appear in my home country Japan takes it to a whole nother level. Friend chocolate, obligatory chocolates, family chocolates, and finally I like you chocolates. And the prices for those chocolates!! X__X Hopefully people buy the cheaper ones for all those coworker chocolates but what an expensive holiday! At least we only do romantic chocolates here. And maybe some friend ones. It was like Japan was like OH AMERICAN HOLIDAY?! We can do it much better and make people feel okay spending tons of money! And then make another holiday on top of that!
Since this is an all girls school one would think all the chocolates would be a friend type chocolates. But since this show is about girls liking girls but really they are liked by other girls and no one knows anything….almost all the chocolate was romantic. Except for Akari’s. And she got none because I am not counting incest chocolates. All that money and she got none in return. Oh but Tenchi you don’t buy presents to get anything in return. Well….maybe one shouldn’t accept a present when you have nothing to give in return and that is the culture.
The real meat of this episode was Sakurako realizing (sorta) that she needs/wants Himawari in her life and Himawari (sorta) accepting that role. And while slightly overdramatic at times (Sakurako verses the chair!) I found it…realistic and at times charming. Maybe I remember being a teenage girl and being jealous over friendships. Not in love with people obviously but jealous none the less.
I thought that Himawari would have picked up on Sakurako’s feelings quicker. Only because she seems like the smarter one of the two. But I think I will give her a little slack since Sakurako did get jealous over a small issue and there was no real way for Himawari to combat that level of emotion. And maybe a part of Himawari was like okay I will mess with Sakurako a bit since she takes advantage of me all the time. And it was just a scarf folks. Just a scarf!
Akari trying to help Sakurako with her homework….I had to laugh. Maybe Akari really is smart and she just looks like she is missing part of her brain. Her explanation to Sakurako didn’t sound very helpful though. But at that point Sakurako could have tuned her out, turning into Charlie Brown’s teacher or something. Do this this and this? Yeah. Swing away at those boobies Sakurako.
The other girls were featured in the episode when Sakurako wasn’t having an epic meltdown. Ayano clearly wants to give some special chocolates to Kyoko but has to insist they aren’t for her. Oh okay. Just buying some expensive chocolates at Valentine’s Day and they are for you. I see there. Also I like how most of the girls bought their chocolates and didn’t make them. And the person who did make them failed. I get a bit unreasonably mad at people making perfect treats to give to people. Like oh look at you being all domestic and shit! What a damn cookie?! Well I guess you can make them! Clearly I have issues on this subject. So yay for buying things! I worked hard for my money so eat those feelings wee!!!
Then we have Kyoko who is pretty much greedy and disappointed me in this episode. I mean…you don’t go HERE buy me this…unless it is your husband and sometimes he doesn’t really know what you want and you are just helping. Not with your friend though. And not when you don’t plan on returning the favor. Like really a candy bar from the check out lane? And then you broke it in half?! Kyoko why do you make me sad? So much greed. :( Enablers!
Chinatsu on the other hand was super kind and generous with her time and money. And yes in Hypocritical Tenchi Land it is okay to spend tons of time on making THINGS, just not food. But in the case of Chinatsu ….everything she touches turns to crap. Literally. It has to be censored folks. No one can handle her creations. Do her eyes work or something?! Also if Akari is her friend and she just tolerates Kyoko why give her the practice chocolates? Oh yes because Akari is invisible.
When Chinatsu thanked Himawari for all her hard work it sent Sakurako over the edge. She started crying and making no sense and it all felt so weird. Her not understanding her own emotions, the overreacting to someone getting a thank you, and the tears. I think Himawari could have reacted a bit more to that. Even if the two have a weird relationship that revolves around name calling and such I thought
Himawari would have done something, screamed back or done more than look like…uh?
Instead of comforting the crying girl Himawari smiles a bit, realizing that Sakurako is jealous. And then she just hands her the scarf and chocolates. Like oh here you go. Thanks for playing. Maybe both girls were just tired and embarrassed from the fight (one sided as it was) and with Himawari handling the situation like this it helps give Sakurako an out. Like YEAH SLAVE!
So in the end Sakurako decides to forgive Himawari and all is well. It was weird seeing these girls as the main characters in the episode as we mainly see them randomly screaming at each other in the back ground. It was nice to see them actually spend time with Chinatsu and Akari. Like hello we are not random characters, we actually have connections to these people. So that was nice. We saw more of their relationship, like a more extreme version of Yui and Kyoko with a hint of a mutual crush.
So….was this a good episode of Yuru Yuri? I am so confused here people. My world has come crashing down. Of course there was the random twin kissing scene….and the older sister giving her younger sister creepy chocolate. Or maybe this episode made me hungry and is clouding my judgment. XD Either way…I see.
