Hello there my lovely readers! Today was supposed to be another productive day and…my husband signed up for a free month subscription of Netflix. So the logical thing to do was spend the entire day watching amazing Sci-Fi movies. I am officially never going in the ocean again WEEEEE!
But in between sharks eating people on vacation I did manage to watch one anime episode. Can’t be forgetting about my left over Spring shows now that Summer has hit town. Hyouka episode 12 time. What do you mean no more murder mystery?!
Such words of encouragement....
Episode Summary: It is the eve of the school festival and all the Classic Club members spend it in different ways, from Houtarou being bored to Satoshi acting like it is Tokyo Disneyland time. Houtarou gets ready the next morning and his sister happens to be home. She wishes him luck because things always go wrong with the Classic Club on festival days and gives him a broken pen….because. On the way he meets up with Satoshi who has to wear Depends or something due to his excitement level. They see Mayaka in her sorta cosplay outfit walking but she doesn’t seem cheerful at all. Satoshi tries to make her happy but it leads to failure. As they make their way through the school Satoshi is overwhelmed by the amazingness. Mayaka and Houtarou continue to make their way to the Club Room which…is at the end of the top floor and has no activity at all. Eru is already there with a stack of their anthologies.
Surely the planets will align and a solution will appear.
It becomes clear why Mayaka is so sad. She was supposed to order 30 copies and ended up with 200. Houtarou says it is everyone’s responsibility to double check and not worry. Satoshi shows up wearing a galaxy suit and together everyone sits down to discuss what to do. Houtarou thinks the price of 200 yen is too low but given their bad location they might not even sell them all at that price. Satoshi suggests going to the student council president to ask for a better spot. Eru is picked to be the spokesperson since she is not wearing a galaxy suit. Satoshi also suggests that they enter events under the club’s name to get more press. Mayaka has to go to her Manga Society Club and Houtarou volunteers to stay behind to run the store. It appeared he had an idea to make this situation better but it turns out he just wanted to be lazy. The opening ceremonies end up being amazing and leads Satoshi to forget his duties to help Eru. Eru who manages to leave the hall finds herself sucked into all the fun booths and it takes her a while to make it to the Student Council President. Basically he says um no you can’t have another booth but you can sell your crap at other people’s booths if they say yes.
Um do I need to stab a ho?
Mayaka arrives at her Manga club where apparently she is a pariah for being against cosplaying initially. The president of her club shows up and treats her kindly which is good. Mayaka still can’t work up enough courage to ask to sell some copies of their anthologies. Mayaka manages to cheer up and pull it together when their first customers arrive. Houtarou is bored at the club room and figures he has sold 12 copies already if he counts everyone in the club and their adviser. Houtarou considers that work and takes a break to look outside the window to see some performances. He sees someone randomly have their water bottle replaced with a piece of paper. A random person from the National Inclusion of People who Dress Weird manages to find the club room and feels bad for the bored Houtarou. He buys a copy of the anthology and nearly flips when he sees Houtarou’s broken pen. Apparently it would be perfect for the fashion show he is in and Houtarou gives it to him. The punk then gives Houtarou the winning number for the fashion show in which the prize is a shout out. Eru keeps scolding herself from getting sidetracked…as she is sidetracked again. THE END!
PARTY TIME!!!
What?! Absolutely no mystery this week? For shame! Of course this entire series has been centered about the school festival in one way or another so it only makes sense that the silly thing actually happened. XD Of course there was the small makings of a mystery with the missing drink and note right? But yeah…no real mystery this week.
Best day ever!!! I AM NEVER GOING BACK!!!!!!!!!
Satoshi and his enthusiasm made up for the lack of mystery yes? Did you see how happy and excited that boy was? Like his entire life he lived in a cardboard box and now he got to experience everything. Like MOG cardboard signs, paper flowers, and stands selling food you can buy anytime! That boy and his many bags (did you see his room?!) were beyond excited walking up the stairs and seeing all the chaos and happiness in the hallways. One couldn’t help but be excited…or worry for Satoshi’s sanity when watching his happy face.
I know right, people wanting to have fun and stuff? Crazy.
Houtarou had a pretty blah attitude about the entire thing. Which is what I expected from him. I am sure maybe on the inside he was smiling and fighting the good time he might have been experiencing. Like nope I refuse to have fun because that will take too much energy. But as much work as these school festivals seem to take…I think all Japanese High School students look forward to that fun filled week, even if they are Houtarou. I can say this because I have deep learnings from watching anime and such.
Wait that was your plan?!?!?!
I did think that Houtarou had more up his sleeve than standing watch at the empty shop. I thought his mind might have picked up on something. But that would probably be too fast for him. He needs a bit of time to put together plans. Or care a little bit. Eru has to be depressed or something for him to expend a little energy. So in the end he was running the shop because he is lazy and was probably overwhelmed by all the chaos.
I kinda wanted to hug this guy for even buying a copy. XD
X__X Their club room is in a crappy place. So putting aside Mayaka’s mistake I don’t know how they were going to sell 30 copies in that lame location. I mean…I guess the club room is far enough away from other groups to enjoy their privacy and to avoid all the noise that comes from the other student. But then on festival day…you are in the middle of nowhere and I am sure all the clubs outside had much grander plans thus were given better spots. Like I am sure you can ask for a spot to sell your 30 whole magazines I bet the clubs with huge food stands were given those spots.
Don't you know this is Japan? I can't just approve of something without making a big deal out of it RARW!
I guess that makes things unfair. :( Bigger clubs given better rooms and better spots. The poor clubs with few members or barely known getting nothing thus they will never get bigger. Now I am getting all sentimental over a fictional show. XD One would think that Eru would have thought about this beforehand though, given how much traffic that area was NOT going to get. I mean if I had to work a festival I would at least want it to be around other people, so I can be a part of the fun too. Not upstairs all alone and forgotten.
Ya'll still wouldn't have made much money anyway.
So…..I do have a tiny question. Do all the clubs get to keep whatever money they make at the festival? Or does it all go back into the student budget for other things? I am thinking that clubs and classes are all given a budget and then they get to keep the profits after the fact. So my question really is this: exactly how much money did the Classic Club really think they were going to make? If they were going to sell 30 copies at 200 yen that is 5,000 yen IF they sold them all and IF they didn’t buy any copies themselves. I am going to low ball in and assume that each copy cost 50 yen to make. That means a profit of 4,500 yen after 3 days of working? X___X Like really what the heck is that all about? Even with 200 copies that is only 30,000 yen. I mean maybe enough to get Disneyland tickets for everyone for one day but not a significant amount compared to the work they put into the book and during the festival. I mean…maybe they just made them to have made them and didn’t care about the money factor. In that case just hand them out to people walking by and have fun for the next 2.5 days. XD If they weren’t in it for the money they should have been in it for the fun and it didn’t seem fun to me.
Everything is my fault woe is me!!!!!!!
That last paragraph was way too long. Lets talk about Mayaka for a change of pace. She was really down this episodes wasn’t she? Felt bad for her. :( I mean….that was a pretty amazing mistake. Would have made more sense if they wanted to order 20 and she got 200 or if they wanted 30 and got 300. But the point was…no one really made Mayaka feel worse than she already did. They all tried to take some of responsibility and told her not to worry. Probably easier to do when they weren’t out millions of yen. XD I like how the group all came together to help her out. Still it is a bit sad to think that Mayaka wasn’t going to have a super fun festival because that was looming in the back of her mind. Maybe Houtarou will sell them all fast so she can have a good time.
And you look like a dude cosplaying a girl. So be quiet.
But then the members of her other club (how do Mayaka and Satoshi manage to be in multiple clubs?!) were a bit…um..harsh. Is harsh the right word? I mean…it probably doesn’t matter if they cosplay or not at this point. They are advertising to everyone they love manga. So if people think they are otaku for being in the club I am sure dressing up during festival time isn’t that big of a deal. Or maybe it is and Mayaka isn’t totally comfy with that side of her hobby. The point is she was cosplaying…or wearing nice clothes and the rest of them looked like vocaloids. Thought this was the manga society! At least the president was nice?
I can't see!!!! Something amazing might be happening and I can't see!!!
What else happened in this episode…oh yes! Eru being adorable. I think I would have been like Eru. Not going insane with happiness like Satoshi but unable to concentrate like Eru. Like having a game plan but being sidetrack with all the lovelies going on. Sometimes I get like that. When I walk into an anime convention dealer’s room at first I get all X___X where do I go first and this is all overwhelming. So I know the feeling. You want to do everything at once and everything looks amazing. Poor Eru. Trying her best to be a good club president but was surrounded by too much fun.
On the look out for mysteries.
I think that is about it for this post of longness. Satoshi is probably going to be miserable after the festival is over given how over the top happy he is now. Houtarou will manage to sell all the copies. And the girls are going to find more ways to have fun and make Houtarou smile. Oh and maybe we will find out what the mysterious paper in exchange for water bottle business is all about. XD Til next time.
