Hyouka episode 16

Is there a reason why Florida is called the Sunshine State? I don’t live in California but when I read THEIR Disney boards they talk about their perfect weather most of the year. Living in Florida for a long time I know we have TONS of rainy days. Sometimes it is brief rain or sometimes it lasts all day. All and all we are the sunshine state for half the year and the other half we are under hurricane watches. XD Beware when making your theme park vacations folks. Have a boat on hand!

Clearly I am taking a break from the nonstop volleyball action so anime is getting done! A miracle indeed! Up now is Hyouka episode 16. Spoilers for the longest school festival ever!

What does that make you Satoshi?

Episode Summary: Satoshi arrives at school super early and reads the newest newspaper article about the Juumonji mystery. He is less than excited to see the Go Club member who thinks he’s friends with standing outside the club everyone thinks will get hit next. The room fills up rather quickly and the waiting begins. Go Club member starts to leave when he gets a text saying a different club was hit instead. Satoshi gets very upset over the fact he couldn’t catch Juumonji in the act. Houtarou is off chillin in the club room thinking that they actually are doing a good job selling some of the copies. His sister walks on in and teases him a bit. She takes the mirror that Houtarou received as payment last time and leaves a manga instead. The manga that Mayaka has been looking for. Houtarou reads through it and in some of the notes the manga group talks about how they are going to do a bigger and better manga next year that might involve a Christie mystery. Eru by some magical force of the universe is given a spot on the radio by the Broadcasting Club as the Classics Club might get hit next. But when Eru returns from her adventure she gets all excited about this manga and how she has seen the art before. SHE IS CURIOUS!

Somehow this clue is very important!

Mayaka was hanging out in the Manga Club and drawing when someone splashes dirty water on her. But the girl gets bumped and ends up spilling the whole container on Mayaka’s cosplay. Mayaka walks out wordless and changes into her gym outfit while everyone looks on shocked. Mayaka meets up with Eru in the hallway and sees she is holding the holy grail of mangas. Together they figure out Eru remembers the poster in the hallways matches the art in the book. They further find out that the student council president is the one who did the art in the manga and on the poster. Eru and Mayaka return from their adventures and tell Satoshi and Houtarou what they have learned. Light bulbs start going off in Houtarou’s head as he starts putting the puzzle pieces together. He asks to speak to Satoshi alone which upsets Eru because she feels left out. Houtarou tells her it is adult in nature and runs off with Satoshi. Houtarou talks about how they just assumed the criminal was stealing items based on the letters in their name. Add in the fact they are copying a certain Christie mystery and that a manga should be sold at this festival that ISN’T and Houtarou thinks there is more than meets the eye. Satoshi is a little disappointed that Houtarou has figured out so much but tells Houtarou to solve this thing! Eru is about to go on the radio and surely nothing will go wrong right? THE END!

MOG the school festival has been going on 8432743 million episodes folks. And it still isn’t done. X__X While I like school festivals and this has been fun to watch…it better not last 5 more episodes. Solve this mystery next episode please! X__X You are drawing it out a bit too long. It is better to end on a high note and leave people wanting more than for them to say GOSH that took forever.

What happened to Satoshi this episode? I had such hopes for him yet he gave up so fast. Maybe he never had a chance to solve this mystery to begin with but give a chance! He just….got defeated rather fast and it made me feel sad for him when less than 12 hours before hand he was all like I WILL SOLVE THIS! Just a sad little Satoshi who now seems a bit upset at Houtarou.

Is Mugi okay???!!!

Of course…Satoshi is rather special. If he wasn’t able to catch the culprit during the magic show, when the mystery was just being revealed, what made Satoshi think the culprit was going to parade around in front of an entire room looking for him/her? Satoshi’s approach was way too amateur. Yes that would be the easiest way to find out whodunit in a suspect pool so big but….really? If someone has thought out this plan to this level of detail I doubt they would allow themselves to get caught in a room full of people. Satoshi should have thought of a better plan if he wanted to surpass Satoshi. :( Being in that room full of wannabes, what did he think was going to happen? X__x

This dude has jazz hands!

Eru is one of the luckiest people in anime is she not? Through little to no effort she has gotten the Classics Club in the newspaper and now will be on the radio. Free advertising for the club. But Eru will still be exhausted and talk about all the hard work she did. Because she is cute like that. With her eggplant plushie self. It takes a lot of hard work to make one’s eyes that big and sparkly all the time.

What the hell did Mayaka do to these girls?! Assholes all of them!

Mayaka is still having the worst festival experience ever. Why does Mayaka have three days worth of costumes when the mean girls just have one? They must smell lovely. Confunk anyone? But yes one of the mean girls was trying to splash Mayaka a little bit and ended up covering her in ink water. That seems to be the wake up call everyone needed in this teasing going too far. The tension in the room was thick. Mayaka did the right thing by leaving the situation but maybe should have said something so things were SO awkward. I mean they were awkward but her leaving in silence just took it to a higher level of wftness.

Eru is sad she doesn't have a magical older sister too.

Houtarou’s sister…apparently she can read minds or something. She went off to study abroad and came back with magical powers. I thought that Houtarou’s sister was much older than him but she graduated last year if she was able to pick up the magical manga that Mayaka has been going on and on for weeks (well hours but weeks for viewers). A magical manga that holds the secrets to this entire mystery. A magical manga that Houtarou was able to obtain due to his sister giving him the broken pen at the start of this festival mystery. Even for anime magic this is a bit hard to swallow right? That is…unless she is in on the mystery….

That all being said his sister looked pretty cute. Not sure why we can’t show her face but since that is typical in anime I will allow it. But yes she was so stylish. At times I felt a little under dressed in Japan because everyone looked so put together. Even at Tokyo Disneyland people were dressed to impress. Guess I am just used to people looking like they rolled out bed. I have had countless customers come in their pajamas to pick up their pizzas. And most of the time I can barely get out of the house on time so I mainly stick to jeans and T-shirts. So in conclusion….Houtarou’s sister looked like the typical young person in Japan and I feel like a bum. YAY!

Also Houtarou is just so cute with this trading game. In the end it seems like an elaborate way for his sister to help out this doushjin group out. How she knew it was going to end like this…I have no idea. But Houtarou was pretty excited about making sure the game kept going maybe he has overlooked the fact that he got used.

Eru got way too excited about finding out who drew the art in the manga. Like mog a manga that was made at our school?! Could the artist be here?! She didn’t even know about the note basically saying HEY we are going to do something big next year. Learning that the student council president was involved in the manga is an important clue for Houtarou (because he is not a social butterfly) but sometimes I feel as if this show uses Eru in stupid ways to get clues for Houtarou that otherwise would not come up in normal investigations.

Because of the alphabet! I can't even spell in English how am I going to spell in Japanese?

I never really thought I had a chance in learning Japanese. I mean….one would have to try at something to have a chance at it right? It would be nice to not need subtitles and maybe buy Japanese mangas. The husband thinks he will one day but now after watching this show I know he doesn’t have a pray either. The key to learning Japanese is to know how to read it. And if ALL of these characters are having a hard time understand what words mean how can non Japanese readers have a chance? XD So many different ways to interpret words. No wonder Houtarou is taking his time to solve this mystery.

Houtarou and his explanations to Satoshi. Again I felt bad for the boy. Satoshi wants so bad to solve this mystery and Houtarou has been handled all the clues on a silver platter. Satoshi’s face just falls and as Houtarou just lists off everything he knows. Now Houtarou was given a huge advantage with the manga that basically says HEY there is a mystery coming up maybe you should pay attention. But Houtarou is good at putting all the clues together and making them make sense.

So what major clues did Houtarou put together? That perhaps the name/letters being used to strike the clubs is not important. That there is a book being used to base the crimes on. And the fact the culprit is saying the items are lost, not stolen. Clearly they were being stolen right? All these little clues are being added together to reveal something big? Perhaps that is why Mayaka’s older classmate backed off at the mention of that manga. Because she is in on this prank as well.

What does Houtarou have planned?!

I am not sure how this is all going to turn out. Which is the point really. It wouldn’t be fun if we could guess everything that could happen right? But this is turning into a complicated matter over some very tiny issues. Hyouka is good at turning out drama over tiny issues. But how this all relates to creating a manga….well that remains to be seen. I guess we will find out next time…hopefully. Not in 5 episodes. X___X
