Episode Summary: Ritsu has grand plans to make it to work early but that flies out the window. Instead he ends up leaving the building at the same time as Takano and that is weird. Probably just as weird as having your boss’s penis in your butt but Ritsu doesn’t think like that. Their neighbor thinks they are up to no good because they come home late and Takano decides to make things worse by implying they have hot wild sex at night. On to work though as it is New Year’s Eve and it is time to party. Well not really. Ritsu has a lot to work to do so his mom takes this moment to call her son and scream at him for letting An walk home all alone. Or walking her to the taxi station. Ritsu tries telling momma that he is just not that into her (An) but momma seems to think Ritsu needs to TRY a little harder and make it work. Ritsu is like BUT MOMMMMMM and mom is like oh by the way take An home from the wedding she is going to tonight BYE! Ritsu tries to text An and tell her know but Takano comes by and gives him the stink eye. Because obviously this is all Ritsu’s fault.

Finally it is party time and Ritsu has the fun task of handing out badges. He sees the rest of his team walk in and the entire author department sparkles all over the place. Ritsu tries to kill himself but Takano needs to take Ritsu around to all the people he should have met already. Ritsu is shocked to learn Yoshino is a man but pushes through the night of not having fun and being yelled at over things that are not his fault. At least Takano stood up for him in front of Yokozawa right? As the party draws to a close Ritsu is given the task of making sure the authors make it to their after party alright. I suspect that is where the real fun is. 5 seconds later An appears and was like how dare you work and not answer my texts! An then wants Ritsu to really be her fiancé since that is what she has desired all along. Ritsu is like err no remember that time when I turned you down? An then is like oh so instead of liking me all this time you were really in love with that person from junior high? Ritsu says yes and An runs away in tears. Takano shows up because he was spying like a crazy person and says not to go after An. After a fun car ride home with Takano and his mom yelling at him on the phone Ritsu tries to escape into his own apartment. Only Takano wants Ritsu to admit what he told An to his face. Ritsu refuses but it somehow leads to sex in Ritsu’s room. Ritsu insists before, during, and after he does not love anyone and only wants to focus on work but Takano just smirks as he gets dressed the next day. He continues smirking as the neighbor lady now thinks that they are hot escorts and wants to go to their club. THE END!
This episode was a bit weird for me and I haven’t figured out why yet. Let’s explore.
Before I watched this episode my husband informed me if given the choice he would not go to his company’s Christmas Party. I was like X__X wait what? First of all YAY Christmas parties yes? And second of all….you don’t have a choice? Well I guess if you are being forced to go to something that could make you resentful. And it is hard to have fun when you are being resentful right?
Doesn't feel very party like when some of the office has to work. But I guess that is what newbies are for.
So yes. That is how I felt watching the New Year Eve’s Party. I guess for some (see the sparkling ladies) the party was amazing. For others it was work obligated meeting that didn’t allow them to eat or drink the food. Like I don’t even understand that part. The authors are important yes but since this show is ALL ABOUT THE EDITORS I thought maybe their company saw them as important too right? Guess not.
Actually now that I think about it the entire party was weird. Ritsu had to work the badge table instead of enjoying the party. He was supposed to greet all his co-workers authors but was not allowed to hang out with them. He has to say HI but getting to know them would be silly. The entire night was one big MOG did I say hello to this person stress. Then Ritsu had to help the ladies go to THEIR after party to which Ritsu had to be invited to, he wasn’t automatically included in it. Like some crazy class system.
So yes husband. It can be worse. Last time I just remember sitting at a table and mingling with a few co-workers. And we got to eat food. Then we laughed at all the drunk people dancing and looked at Christmas Trees. Maybe you is forced to go but at least you got to eat! Maybe it is different in a huge company like Ritsu’s but the whole after party deal and the not eating thing. Weird.
Sometimes Ritsu just sets himself up.
Another thing that was weird was Takano not shoving it in Ritsu’s face about THE SNUGGLE NIGHT. Aka the Ritsu actually initiated the sexy times night. I think that was an oversight and a serious one at that. It was a big deal and yet it was party time and Takano acting like he might be jealous of An. An. What kind of name is that? So lazy.

I think that neighbor lady is rude. I guess she was supposed to be funny and maybe she represented all the nosy old bats of the world but I think she was too rude. She wants to make sure the neighborhood is safe? People going to work at noon are dangerous? How about you mind your own business? Dear Lord someone has to restock all those convenient stores! That usually happens around 11:30/12:00 lady. Although…I didn’t think they went to work around noon. That was a bit of a surprise.
Marriage is just like receiving a meal you don't like. Just smile through it and maybe things will get better!!!
Don’t like Ritsu’s mom. I am sure she means well but maybe she should have asked way in advance how her son left about An. I mean…it would be hard to explain that situation to the family as they are trying to play nice nice and maybe it would have been beneficial to both families to have their kids married. And maybe over the years An and Momma Ritsu became really close and it was hard for momma to let go of thinking that An really was going to be her daughter in law.

Okay so I think I just spent that last paragraph defending Ritsu’s mom. I am not good on hating on people am I? I can SEE how the momma had feelings but when Ritsu was point blank saying NO MOM she shouldn’t have been saying are you sure? Like wtf is that? Yes mom I am sure that I don’t want to marry and sleep with my childhood friend. But since some traditional marriages in Japan and other places handle those kind of situations differently…I don’t know. Mom should not have been calling while Ritsu was working and promised that he would do something. HEAR THAT MOMS?! We don’t like it when you promise we are going to do something when you haven’t even ASKED us yet.

An is in some deep denial. I want to hate her but I can’t. How can I hate someone with such a pathetic name? I guess in her mind she thought Ritsu was always the one and he would eventually come to love her too. See how pathetic that is? She was going to WAIT for Ritsu to fall in love with her? I want to be choice number one folks. But she loses major points by harassing Ritsu while he worked. Given how serious jobs can be in Japan him “hanging out” with An in the same place as the party might have gotten him in trouble.
See, he loves Takano. He clearly stated it. Game over.
Ritsu was being honest with An and I appreciate that. He finally admitted he was in love with Takano so that countdown needs to stop. Since I am not a guy I don’t know how I would feel admitting to another guy my feelings. In terms of being all manly and not letting someone see you vulnerable. Plus Takano is his boss. So I am glad Ritsu has said it out loud. But now that makes Ritsu look a little stupid. Like yeah Ritsu, keep on denying how you feel. After you put your clothes on after a hot night of sex. HMMM we believe you.
Ritsu is not allowed to sparkle with them.
Can we get back to the party for half a second? Like I know Ritsu is low man on the totem pole and he needs to earn his spot and this is Japan where we send the new guy out to save a spot for cherry blossom viewing parties 12 hours in advance. But I felt bad for Ritsu when all the other guys walked in (what IS that other dude’s name…) and he was not a part of the group. I know he didn’t want to be included but I felt bad. Like he wasn’t even good enough to borrow some of their glitter. :(

I think that is about it for this episode. We got no nakie sexy because our eyes can’t handle such awesomeness. But Takano is all happy that he got to see Ritsu’s dirty room while pounding into him. An is off crying in the corner with her designer handkerchief. Ritsu hates him life even more now. And Kisa is up next week! YAY ME!
