I apologize if this post makes little to no sense. I am trying to blog and watch a horrible horror movie at the same time. I love horrible horror movies, don't get me wrong. But this one has no motive, no explanation, no origins, and no real connection to any of the characters. I have no idea what is going on and people are being flung into space, eaten by blobs, turned into fireballs by...coal people, and there is a child molester.
You can fly you can fly you can fly and then you crashed.
For something less creepy...watch Tamako Market episode 4. Spoilers for special mochis again?
Not so rough!!!!
Episode Summary: In the past Anko was dressed up to take part in the district's festival. Her mother helped to dress her and clearly Anko has a positive memory even though she was against it at first. Fast forward to the now and Anko is not really feeling the festival. She seems to take out her frustrations on Dera who eats anything put in front of him. He has gained a bit of weight so he takes some human medicine to help with his....digestion. Tamako models the robes they have for the festival this year and Anko is not impressed. She tries to make her way to school but is stopped at very turn with the vendors handing out treats to her. Tamako and her friends eventually catch up to her despite her leaving first. Anko hides behind them as a few young boys walk by. Midori and Kanna figure out it is a crush situation whereas Tamako is like what boys? At school Anko's girl friends talk about how they have to visit a museum for school and that they should go together. With the boys that Anko was hiding from. Anko gets embarrassed but agrees to go until she realizes it is on Sunday. The day of the festival. Anko tries begging her dad to let her go but he reminds her she is a slave and she has to work the festival. Anko and her bad mood are taken out on Dera again as he is wearing his festival jacket. Mochizou tries calling Tamako on their cup phone but Anko picks up instead. She asks Mochizou to work in their shop on festival day and of course he says yes because he loves Tamako.
Rescheduling is hard folks. :(
At dinner dad is like um no besides that kid has his own shop to help run. Tamako offers to do all the work but dad says Anko needs to help out too. While everyone misses that Anko has a crush on one of the boys grandpa suggests that Anko wake up at the crack of dawn to do her work. Everyone seems happy with this suggestion. Festival day comes and everyone is working really hard, even Shiori who has shown up. Dera is kidnapped by the heads of the district because the top of the moving shrine has broken and they need a bird to replace it. Insert painting Dera gold. After Anko is done with her little fan she gets ready to go to the museum. She is pulled aside by the flower shop owner who needs help getting the kids ready for the festival. One of the kids act just like she did so Anko knows the trick to helping calm the girl down in the uncomfortable clothes. The little kid is so touched she makes Anko feel guilty about not watching the parade so Anko stays. Mochizou tries to impress Tamako by carrying the shrine with Dera on it but it appears that Tamako was on the other side of the road and didn't see. The girls return to the shop to see Anko selling the limited edition mochi. Tamako is sad that Anko didn't make it to the museum but Anko seems fine with it and helps call out to customers. The two classmate boys walk by to give Anko something since she couldn't make it to the museum. Anko freaks out all over the place and locks herself in her closet. The older girls try to get Anko out with food/smelly food but it doesn't work. One of the boys comes upstairs to give Anko the present and she comes out, despite the fact that it is the boy she liked. Dera talks about how even though things don't go how we plan it things can still blossom from it. THE END!
Tamako is great at making mochi interesting, I have to give her that.
See? Didn't I call it? Well I think I called it. Golden Week and then summer vacation. Life is one giant party when your name is Tamako. Even if this episode was more about Anko. Anko. A name that would sound better with less letters apparently.
I love kids....really I do.
I was all ready to talk about Anko being a brat but then I took a moment, had some delicious Code Red (the beverage of champions), and thought about it. Anko is just a little kid (in the 4th grade, not younger as her yellow hat confused me). Sometimes little kids are brats and act selfish. Like all human beings but since I have less patient for kids sometimes I judge them a little harsh. I shall work on this. Maybe.
This makes me want to dress up Duffy. Clearly I get addicted to things fast....
It appears that Anko had fond memories of the festival. Well they ended up being fond after a while. At first she was like mom why do I have to wear this crap and have stuff applied to my face. But her mother made it fun for her and told her how pretty sure looked and instant good kid. Now I wish the episode had focused more on this aspect, that maybe Anko wasn't being a brat because she is 10 but because she misses her mother. That her mother gave her good memories of the festival and now that she is gone the festival is no longer fun. That point was never really brought up so it is just speculation on my part. Something that could have made the the episode stronger.
Just... a little fat.
Is Dera going to get so huge he can't fit through doors? I kinda like that he is round, very unbird like as he can talk and has projectors of eyes. But a bird that can't fly is either sad or a penguin. And Dera is not a penguin. Time for him to put on some 1980's workout gear and push it to the limit. Fly again Dera. Riding on people's heads is no fun anyway.
And then barely anyone cared.
It must be hard to be Tamako. Her father is no fun and her sister is less fun than him. XD You rock those cute little outfits. Long live the district. Okay sometimes Tamako takes it a little too far with her love of the shopping district but when paired with her father and sister maybe Tamako needs to be over enthusiastic. Dera seems to have gotten into the spirit of things but maybe that is because he looked fabulous. Prince who?
But delicious.
Anko seems a bit overwhelmed with all the attention given to her from the other shop district owners. XD Good to know that other people think they are over the top too. Free food for everyone weee! Also how can people be so chipper in the morning. I am like braiiiiiiiiiiiiiins. Maybe I would be in a better mood if someone gave me free and fresh pastries too.
Although she isn't shy about how she feels about the talking bird that lives in her house.
I thought Anko being shy around the boy she liked was cute. I mean she acted really, really shy but believable. What I didn't get is why she didn't reschedule this museum trip for another day. I mean it would put people out and we know that is a no no in Japan but I think her friends would have understood. Instead I guess it was easier to worry and fret about things.
I would say that too. Gosh a museum. Kid can't even go learn!
In regards to Anko being upset with her dad and trying to use Mochizou to get out of working at the store....I really get that. I can understand being upset about being in the hospitality/customer service industry. You always have to work the holidays while others are having fun. This can be especially hard on kids as they didn't choose the adult's profession yet are expected to help. That might be the spoiled American in me talking but Anko being expected to work the many, many holidays and festivals Japan has is really bleh. Bleh indeed. Tamako should be more upset about this but she is missing the part of her brain that registers things being crappy.
Just give it a rest poor Mochizou.
Can we talk about Mochizou for a second? That kind can never catch a break. He was trying to tell Tamako about his part in the festival but Anko grabbed their little cup on a rope phone and proceeded to cock block him AND make fun of the phones at the same time. He never gets the message to Tamako he is carrying the shrine and he does his best at doing so for his efforts to go unnoticed. :( You did your best Mochizou, you did your best.
This was a good duplicate though right?
Dera did his best too, with doing what he does best. Stand on something and strike a pose. I like how the district owners had to chase Dera down to do this. It seems like it would be something he would love to do. Why did he need convincing? He could meet plenty of ladies this way. Goober bird.
Maybe Anko should walk the other way in her attempts to get out of the district.
Anko was able to sneak away from the shop because she got up at an ungodly hour to do her chores. And Tamako invited all her friends over to lighten the load. Only she was kidnapped by the owner of the flower shop to help dress all the young girls. In the position that Anko was in a few years ago. Where are all THEIR mothers? It was a bit special that Anko dressed the girl who was just like her when she was younger. But at least Anko passed along the niceness.
This is the thanks she gets apparently. Yay mochi!!!!
Was the parade really that late in the day? Because Anko didn't go to the museum at all despite the fact the little girls were dressed by 11 am. I guess that is what happened and it is a bit unfortunate. Anko worked hard and deserved to spend time with her friends. But I guess she is related to Tamako and wants to sell the special mochi and yell out embarrassing things to customers. Everyone say aw.
I hope Anko called her friends and said she wasn't coming....
I thought the kid with the glasses was cute. Why did the other girls think it was odd he was the one Anko liked? Silly girls. In the end Anko was able to talk to the boy but not after being super embarrassed and hiding in a closet. That might be a little TOO shy. Just a tiny bit folks. Remind me not to hide around these folks though with their cruel ways with food.
Fun killer!!!
I think that is about it for this episode. Is is summer time yet folks? Get these holidays out of the way we need some watermelon.
