My house is a giant Christmas store. In fact I might have more trees than most department stores. Of course everything is everyone at this point and I might lose my mind due to the mess but yes folks. Christmas has exploded all over the floor of my house. Soon it will explode on all the trees weee!
The face of something. Not sure what.
But more anime must get blogged folks! So what do I have up now? Zetsuen no Tempest episode 7. Not 8. Even though I thought I was on 8. And now I want to watch 8 because of something I saw Hakaze said. So spoilers for this not being episode 7.
I command it!
Episode Summary: Aika asks again what Mahiro wants, if he wants her to be his woman. Mahiro gets upset, saying he wouldn't ask something so rude. He gets upset with himself and her, confused about his emotions. So until Mahiro can figure things out he commands Aika not stay relationship free. She smiles and asks what he would do if she was already in a relationship? It gets all Dr. Seuss on us as Mahiro and Yoshino both think of Aika. Back in the present Yoshino is sealing up an old bus he and Mahiro are holed up in. The final battle is coming up but Hakaze is fast asleep. As the boys settle for bed Yoshino worries on what will happen to Mahiro after he gets his revenge. Mahiro breaks the silence and asks why Yoshino doesn't look at his phone as much. Of course that is because Aika is dead. In flashback land Yoshino is trying to help Aika with her homework but she rather talk about when they will finally have their first kiss. After Yoshino freaks out Aika decides that he should come with her family to their summer house so they can share a first kiss there. Yoshino wonders about Mahiro and if Aika knows how Mahiro feels about her. After parting ways Mahiro calls and makes Yoshino go on a double date with some older girls. The date goes sour as Yoshino and Mahiro focus more on outdoing the other than the girls. After the date Yoshino admonishes Mahiro, explaining a girlfriend isn't something you get, it is someone you like. Mahiro looks at Yoshino with shock, then like he understands something. Mahiro goes home and tells Aika about the double date. She starts bashing both boys but then turns in into maybe positives. She decides that personality wise Mahiro and Yoshino suit each other. Aika acts all mature about the situation but sends Yoshino a slightly jealous text.
Lets go on dates even though we are in love with someone else, the same someone else.
Mahiro interrupts this flashback asking Yoshino how it feels dating someone you like. Yoshino gets a little sad, thinking about separations and what not. The subject gets changed to stars and how once the boys saw stars together. That means another flashback folks! Back then Yoshino worried about the relationship the nonsiblings had. He has a self induced nightmare about the two kissing and nearly loses his mind. The kids end up going on the trip alone as the adults have to work. They work to clean the house and Mahiro warns Aika to stay away from Yoshino as he looks like he is plotting something. Yoshino watches as the two nonsiblings fight over cooking. Aika takes a moment though to text Yoshino and tell him to meet her somewhere. They meet under the stars and Aika explains why she likes the summer stars. The two nearly kiss but Mahiro shows up to break up the party. He talks about how he doesn't like the summer stars and then wonders why they were out there alone. He talks to Yoshino in private how Aika is a hard person to read and that Yoshino needs to keep himself on guard. Yoshino and Aika do have a moment alone later but just as Aika almost kisses Yoshino...she stops and pulls back, surprising Yoshino. Back in the present Yoshino and Mahiro get up to go to the final battle. Mahiro says he is fired up and points the gun at Yoshino. Yoshino freaks and eventually Mahiro is like did you seriously think I was going to shoot you? Lets go! And off the boys go to fight Samon. THE END!
At this point I don't even know if revenge needs to happen or will happen. Or if anything is real.
This episode was really, really weird. Like really weird. Maybe it is because I thought the series was going to be about one thing and it is turning out a different way. Also is this going to get a second season? Because Tenchi the delusional thought this was going to be at least 24 episodes or longer. Now I am all wtfing it up in here.
Final battle I see.
The only part of the episode that really had to deal with Hakaze and the Trees of Anger was the fact that the boys were talking about how it was time for the final battle. Final battle? We have only had two so far. Maybe three if we think pausing a battle means it becomes a new one. Final battle already? It just seems too fast. I didn’t want them to make friends of the week and have lame times not being able to stop the fruit but….well I guess you can travel around in Japan pretty fast since its not that big. Still…final battle already? Even if it isn’t it sounds weird.
My glasses....my poor glasses....
The reason of the episode focused on the fact that Tenchi has put aside the yaoi colored glasses and is trying to see things for what they are. Even though in a flashback ( I think the entire episode was a flashback ….) Aika was basically like yeah you and Yoshino would make a good couple Mahiro. I was like did she just say that and I agreed with it yet the glasses…I can’t put them on! I want to folks, I really do. But everything is all messed up and this love triangle is threatening to confuse my soul.
Is this really true Yoshino?
At this point I don’t know if Mahiro knew Yoshino and Aika were dating. It seems as if he should have known something is up. Aika can’t stand Yoshino but she is alone with him, looking up at the stars? Saying nice things about him? Not throwing a fit when he comes on a family vacation? Yoshino in the past kept up appearances pretty well but Mahiro seems like the kind of person who would steal your phone and look at your personal stuff. Perhaps it is Yoshino’s guilt that is eating away at him and Mahiro really isn’t upset at him. I point guns at my friends all the time too duh.
Because I am going to die soon?
This episode wasn’t really consistent with things we have been told in the past. I think Aika and Mahiro not being blood related is something new to the plot but doesn’t go against anything that has already been showed. I think that Aika telling Yoshino to be nice to Mahiro, going on about that, makes things confusing. We don’t know when Aika became the step sister. But Yoshino was “friends” with Mahiro first. It sounds like Yoshino started dating Aika because he knew her through Mahiro. Not that oh I was dating this girl and now she became your sister. Otherwise there wouldn’t be so much guilt. So….why would Aika have to tell Yoshino about Mahiro. It just seemed very out of place. So much so I have to devote a whole paragraph to it.
This is all very, very complicated.
I never thought that Aika was going to kiss Mahiro. It was all going to be a dream for the almost scene and she was going to pull back when it came to the conversation with Mahiro. So I am not sure why people were going on and on calling her names last week. I mean…I guess maybe TEASE would apply but the other things I was reading? What the hell people. Slut? For what? Aika assumed that Mahiro was asking to be a couple with her. Maybe she found the whole situation weird and was letting Mahiro know...in an aggressive way that she was not up for grabs.
Was that her being cute or her being....well whatever it is she is.
And on top of that did she even kiss Yoshino? That was quite confusing as well. Which makes me wonder if she had any feelings for him. She has to right? All this hiding from Mahiro and being secretive had to be for something. But then she refuses to kiss Yoshino because the flowers are watching? She was being a tease then yes. Part of me wonders if she saw Mahiro watching. But now that I think about it...was Aika doing something sinister? Was she leading both boys on? Trying to make them fight? Because most people kiss when they are going out. Usually more than that.
This time Mahiro interrupted but what about before?!
Now my brain is broken. Was Aika in love with Yoshino? I know that I am doubting she is dead and maybe she is related to Hakaze. But now...now everything is confusing. Especially since I have read this show is not what people think it is about. And since I think it is about trying to save the world from a giant tree...maybe it can be about an evil girl who was trying to break up a friendship for no reason. Yaoi colored glasses are off folks because now I doubt the straight couple was together. X___X Perhaps things aren't that complicated and I am making a mountain out of a confusing molehill. What is a molehill anyway? Don't they live underground and they have tunnels?
Ah yes the parents....where are they?
This show is hurting my brain! I WANT MY GLASSES! But even I have to draw at the line at unreasonable things. I mean....maybe Aika wasn't evil? Maybe she was trying to push the boys together because she knew she was going to be hacked up to save the world from Hakaze? What is going on? Am I even properly blogging this episode? Am I making sense folks?! Probably not because this show is making no sense. Why doesn't anyone care about the fact that Samon said he had a Hakaze skull? Well imply it. This seems to be major to me.
I'm not dumb boy.
I keep reading that Yoshino is the dark character of the show. The complicated one. I see how he is good at hiding his feelings and what not but I guess I have hope that Mahiro is aware of what is going on. Or did go on. He can't be all revenge and not know that he was in love with Aika right? Taking Yoshino out on the date with the college girls but really they got in a competition with themselves over Aika? Pulling out the gun? Yoshino knows what is going on right? RIGHT?!
Ah my best friend...
I think I am going to end this post now. It has become a hot mess of me trying to figure out what really is going on. Clearly a show that is based on two boys believing a talking wooden doll should be based in reality. Maybe Mahiro and Yoshino are dead too. Maybe this is all in the past. Maybe there is no talking doll and Yoshino is walking around with Mahiro because he knows his friend is crazy. Like um I am going to “help” you but really none of this is real and it is all in Mahiro's mind, trying to deal with the fact that he is the one who killed Aika.
Does she still stand? Maybe she is still alive....maybe it is all a dream.
I need to stop watching horror movies folks.

Hello @Christina
Too many question about Aika--my mind is full of "what ifs"! I haven't been this confused since I read plot-for-dummies theories about Black Rock Shooter! The producers (Ordet) should have just made an anime adaptation of Black Rock Shooter the Game (yes, there's a PSP game about BRS, and it was completely different in an interesting way). That's it, all they have to do is copy the game's simple plot and there you go! No confusion necessary! Aliens invade the Earth, and it's up to BRS and her friends to fight them off--what's so hard about understanding that story? But no, they have to create their own weird stories about crazy school girls acting melodramatic over everything, causing me to ask questions that hurt my brain. >:(
I'm sorry. Rant over. Now, about Zetsuen.
It would be interesting if the true villain of the series was Aika and her "death" was a necessity to save the world from herself. Aika must be a master chess player of nefarious reasons if she played the hearts of two guys for whatever purpose.
Yoshino is more like a guile protagonist. He relies on intelligence (he was tutoring Aika on her homework after all) and manipulation to defeat his opponents while Mahiro is more the hot-headed direct confrontation type. So, yes, you are spot on about Yoshino's character about being shady.
I think it was obvious that Mahiro knew Aika was dating Yoshino. All this subtle hostility toward Yoshino by Mahiro is probably foreshadowing of the battle between best friends. Speaking of battles, it is too early for the "final battle"--I agree with you on that. Seven episodes in this show, and we're about to conclude it against Samon. No, I refuse to believe the producers are going to end so soon unless the ratings for this show is dismal beyond belief and the producers ran out of money.
I like Aika. The writers did a decent job of making her interesting by being mysterious and cunning. Plus, in my opinion, the school girl outfit fits her very well and makes her look cute! :D
Well, that's my word on Zetsuen for today.
First anonymous here again.
Forgot to add:
Aika's voice actress is the popular Kana Hanazawa. So, that's another point to Aika. :D
Anonymous- Black Rock Shooter....still so disappointed about that show. I hope everyone else is because I hate to be all alone (with you of course) in hating how that show turned out. My friend talked to someone else? SLICE OFF ALL MY HAIR TIME!
Aika's smile on her death chair is too suspicious to me. Most people don't smile as they are being stabbed to death. But she is placed in a vain way, like oh snap I want to look good. So it is possible Aika stabbed herself or allowed herself to be stabbed.
Aika can still be Hakaze's sister at this point. I don't know why Hakaze would leave that point out but other things have been left out too so....
Final battle? More like the boys will kill each other before they kill Samon. So much tension going on! Aika said that she didn't want this tension but it seems to me she went out of her way to cause it.
