X___X Christmas. It is on December 25th. It is not the day after Halloween until the end of December! Stop with the Santa ads and Black Friday sales. I mean...can't we get through Thanksgiving, the one day the Native Americans got along with white people before the pox blankets and spears ruined all that false alliance? Gosh. How dare you Christmas!
Komari definitely needs a hug folks.
Craziness you know? But up now is Little Busters! episode 6. Spoilers for Tenchi still being mean to Komari.
Um....that would be a no?
Episode Summary: Riki just sits there and watches as Komari cries all over the place in the rain. She remembers spending time in the hospital with her sick brother. They played in laundry sheets and watch shooting stars as he tells Komari the sad little story about the match girl. When Komari cries over that story the brother promises to write her a better story. So he does with the little hen story. Komari loves it but the brother knows he is going to die soon. He tries to convince Komari this is all a dream so when she wakes up on her dead brother she decided…yep all a dream. Eventually in the present Komari sorta…stops and Riki guides her home to the dorms. She won’t let go of his arm so he leads her to his room. Masato tells Riki to give her a shower so she won’t catch a cold. Masato gives them some privacy as he leaves to bury the kitten. As Komari lies on the bed she changes from looking dead into space to crying over not understanding why these things happen in the world. Rin and Yuiko run it to take care of Komari. Everyone is in a bit of shock when Komari really loses her mind and starts saying that Riki is her brother. Riki promises that he won’t leave this place so Komari allows the girls to take her back to the girl’s dorm. When everyone leaves Riki looks like he is about to lose his mind too. The rest of the Little Busters are told of the situation and are all pretty sad about it. Kyousuke decides that Riki is the only one that can reach Komari and everyone wishes him good luck. Riki goes to visit Gramps again who really is Komari’s grandfather. He confirms that Komari’s brother did die and now whenever Komari comes across death she has freak outs that last a few weeks but soon she will forget until next time. Grandpa explains this happened when his wife died and sensing he doesn’t have much time left has hidden himself in this nursing home. Grandpa doesn’t think Riki can do anything to change the situation but Riki disagrees.
Just not having the best life ever here folks.
Riki finds Komari on the roof, allowing her hen picture book to get soaked wet in a puddle. She tries to tell Riki he is her brother but he insists he is not. Komari is unable to accept the truth so Riki visits her brother’s grave for answers. If the brother always wanted Komari to smile what would be the best way to go about it? Riki gets an idea to add pages to Komari’s hen book. The other Little Busters support Riki in their own way. The boys do so by bringing Riki food while Rin goes up to every single girl who will probably be part of the storyline to donate supplies to the cause. Riki tries to not get disappointed with his drawing results and pushes through. Riki waits for Komari on the roof top. He is very firm and states he is not her brother. She starts to cry again and Riki forces Komari to read the book. He tells Komari she is the hen who is always forgetting. But in the one new page he drew he shows her that the hen is surrounded by friends now. And all the empty pages are for Komari to add as she experiences fun things in life. Riki tells Komari that life can be sad but her brother wants her to go through life being happy. Rin joins them on the roof and cries for Komari. The color comes back to Komari’s eyes and she realizes that while losing her brother is sad there are many other things in the world to be happy about. She smiles and decides to be happy instead. While the Little Busters have another baseball practice and Komari draws in her book. Her brother left her with a happy thought and she will continue it with his memory in mind. THE END!
:( Poor kids though.
And my bad mood continues! GO ME! No really folks maybe I should have waited to watch this episode after I stop wanting to set people on fire. Well not fire…because then I might catch on fire too! Then I would be in the ER with a bad mood and a huge medical bill. So not on fire.
Tons of parent fail here.
While adults/parents are often left out of animes…COME ON FOLKS! COME ON! Maybe it is because I just experienced this with Chocolate, Elections, and Yuuki is amazing with all the girls ever. I am just on ParentsSuck overload. If my son was dying in the hospital, could go at any minute, I would not let my younger child spend the night in his room just in case oh she woke up with his blood on her cheek and a dead body under her. Just a little bit of parent fail there folks. Or a lot. Probably a lot.
WHOOOSH! It is all a dream!
Just…..a lot to do about something simple. I thought there was going to be something major behind Komari forgetting and people trying to protect her from the truth. But…it was fairly simple in the end. The older brother didn’t want Komari to be sad so he said this is all a dream. And that was it. No magic, no spells, not trauma to the head. Just…oh I forgot. Because it was suggested. So yes folks I am a jerk. This was a very young kid and probably her first brush with death and it was with the most important person in her life. And I am complaining that it wasn’t complicated enough.
Just what are you doing all the way over there Riki?!
I thought at first Riki handled the situation horribly. I hate it when I am upset and certain people (CERTAIN PEOPLE!!!) just stand there. Like hello I know it is upsetting that I am upset but maybe sitting there and doing nothing isn’t going to help the situation. But then I remembered that Riki and the gang met this girl a hot minute ago and maybe didn’t know how to handle Komari because hello who is she?! Also they probably should have been thinking that homegirl is a little unstable. She runs around smiling all the time and clearly that is a front. Clearly.
Again? How many times has she gone through this?
Riki paid another visit to Grandpa. Who actually is Grandpa. He was so casual about explaining Komari’s problems. Yep her brother died. Yep Komari will be okay in a few weeks. Well until she finds another dead animal then she will lose her mind again. Just like she lost her mind when my wife died. I am going to die soon so I am going to hide out here. What to make a puzzle? I was like DAMN Gramps. This is a sad situation here. You lost a grandson and your granddaughter is not properly equipped to handle things in real life. Show some more emotion.
You just met!!!!!
Everything is happening very fast in this anime. Rin hasn’t had any girlfriends all her life and now is embracing this girl and acting like they are besties. The other boys in Little Busters are telling Riki he is the only one who can save Komari. Um they met last week and bonded over a doughnut. Komari deciding that Riki is her new big brother? At least that made sense in Chocolate R Running Some Kids Down. This is just…weird. A whole lot of weird kids bonding after three minutes. Maybe I need new friends to bond with too.
As you drown.
So….when I watch anime and am in a super bad mood or a silly mood I usually decide one thing is the most important part of the episode simply because it isn’t. This episode it is the fact that Riki wanted to catch a cold and die on Komari. Where is your umbrella child? Aren’t you Japanese? Running around in the rain like that what is wrong with you?! Just because it is raining that doesn’t make the scene sadder. The world is not crying for Riki or Komari! Do not manipulate my emotions o weather.
Riki decided that the best way to reach Komari was to draw more in her picture book.
Best page ever that took a million hours to draw.
I am going to put aside the fact that Riki spent the entire night drawing one page and Rin was seen running through the streets gathering enough art supplies to make 24398 picture books. Because that would be mean folks. Riki did try folks. Really, really hard. And the chicken people were cute folks. Can’t deny that.
Push through the tears Riki!
While Riki’s picture book was lacking…in pictures he was firm with Komari. Very firm. Like nope I let this go on for a day and that is 24 hours too much. I am not your brother and you are going to accept that he is dead. Now eat your chocolate bar! Look towards the future and read what this book is supposed to be about. Your brother wanted you to be happy!
Look all better!
And poof….let there be happy. That was quick. Like super quick. Komari has been suffering for a long time now and a few serious words from someone she met a few days ago is going to make it all better? I thought Rin was more upset than Komari was. If this event was so traumatic for Komari that she kept losing her memories I would think it would take longer than a few days of Riki trying to help to change all of that. If it were that simple surely someone else in Komari’s life would have tried the same thing right?
I have a feeling Kyousuke will be saying that a lot.
But it was more important to move along folks. Komari had to get better so Riki could help other girls. Even if he didn’t do much to help Komari. I think there was way too much focus on making Komari happy again. It just felt really focused though. I rather her be a slightly less happy person and have tiny bouts of sadness then focus on all the beautiful things in life always. Not crazy moments of sad but being happy all the time isn’t realistic. Gosh animes don’t you know that?
Are you ready to become important yet?
In conclusion I probably just hate Komari’s voice and I am a horrible person. But I am glad the kitten got buried and the one page Riki managed to draw was cute. I think that is about all. Perhaps cake can save my mood? Now to get some cake…

This is Koi to Senkyo to Chocolate all over again.
The parallels between Chisato and Komari were uncanny. I mean, dead brothers, sisters going insane, sadness, and more insanity. Makes me think if the Koi to Senkyo to Chocolate creators were inspired by Komari and her traumatic past when writing Chisato's character.
I know I commented on the previous episode that "at least Komari didn't hug Riki's arm and not let him use the bathroom", but boy was I wrong--Komari is Chisato 2.0. You know, with the "Don't let me go to my room alone, Riki. I will eternally leech onto your arm!". I thought we never had to see this koi to senkyo to chocolate insanity on LB. I'll give Riki one positive point: unlike Yuuki, he didn't slap Komari. Instead, he firmly told her that Komari that he's not her brother--kudos to him.
Rin's character was out of character--I definitely agree with you on that, Christina. She's completely shy around other girls
but in this episode, she's an awesome BFF with Komari--that's literary inconsistency! Everyone in LB just met the girl for like a week and now they are ultimate friends. Realistically, true friendship and trust take time to develop like over years--this just happened in a week. The writers could have at least spread the bonding over all the episodes, and then it would seem plausible and not formulaic.
Komari's problem was solved too quickly just like Chisato's problem. A pep talk and some drawings erased Komari's problem like that--traumatic problems don't just disappear like that! It takes time (as in months or years)for a person to recover, not just in one day. There would also be therapy and perhaps medication involved. I just don't find this sort of quick-trauma-solving-problem in anime believable. A more plausible solution to Komari's problem would be she's dealing with her tramua over the course of the series and becoming slightly better.
Yeah, you're right, Christina. The writers needed to deal with Komari's problem first so that they can have time to deal with the other girls' problems. So, I guess scheduling is too blame? Maybe?
That's all I have to comment on LB.
Forgot to add:
Noumi didn't wear her hat in this episode. :( She has a nice hat.
Anonymous- I thought I was just being cynical when I thought these friendships were going to fast. Glad someone else thinks so too. Rin has been around boys all her life so her being shy around girls makes sense. But suddenly she is gather up art supplies (enough to save the world from boring drawings. I just....I find it unbelievable even if it is an anime.
Same goes for Komari for having her problem solved in 5 seconds. Her brother is dead. She is allowed to be sad. Smiling all the time isn't realistic for a person not going through trauma. But someone she has known for a hot minute draws some cute chickens and all is okay?
It is all the parents fault. Seriously folks. Komari should still have breakdowns and maybe Riki and the others help her out and maybe Riki goes and tells her parents how they suck at life and they need to do a better job helping her. But yes I rather have Komari not smile as much and slowly change over time then become a light bulb of brightness after 10 years of living in denial.
