Japan Trip Day 8: Traveling from Kyoto to Shinjuku, Tokyo

My kitties have decided that they missed me so much they must spend every moment with me. Which would be nice but momma needs to sleep goobers. Jet lag+kitties=tired Tenchi. But not tired enough not to blog. I love blogging and missed it while I was away.

Up today is our trip to Kyoto to Tokyo. The journey was not that bad. The shinkansen was faster than I thought. But be aware Japanese transportation is not made for huge luggage. There was just enough space between the back of the other seat for our big luggage to fit but we had no leg room. But it only took about two hours to get to Tokyo station so I can't complain.

One last view around our hotel.

Please enjoy my Japan Trip Day 8 blog post. Goodbye Kyoto Hello Tokyo!

Onward to the train station.

Going to the subway this time wasn't as horrible when we first got to Japan. We sought out the escalators and elevators instead of trying to go down the stairs. And we knew that people were going to try to run us down so we were more aggressive getting on the trains.

Photobucket

So very, very expensive X__X

The ticket this time was a lot bigger than our other train tickets. Also one cannot keep these tickets as souvenirs as it goes through the machine twice. Once to punch a little hole in it and another time to confirm your arrival. But then it eats your little ticket. So sad for people who like keeping every piece of paper in their life.

Another one passing us by at the speed of fast.

Come along little Shinkansen. Take us home to Tokyo.

While we were waiting for our train a group of students were also heading home. They were pretending to take pictures of the station but they were really taking pictures of us. So my husband decided to start posing for them. What a goober husband I have.

Finally our Shinkansen has arrived.

The scenery on the trip was really interesting. Sometimes there was nothing but farm land and other times there were smaller neighborhoods. Mountains and lakes. It was a really interesting way to see Japan. I guess if you live here you get used to the scenery as most people were either working or sleeping on our trip.

WE HAS ARRIVED!

The train ride to Tokyo station to Shinjuku Station was a special one. Much busier than life in Kyoto and people were in a huge hurry. And our luggage was not helping. But it was much easier to find our hotel this time around. Just go to get down the road. XD

Photobucket

Behold our new room.

X__X Our room was slightly smaller than the one in Kyoto. Space is hard to come by in Tokyo. But the bed was bigger than I was expecting it to be. Just wish the bed wasn't pushed up against the wall.

Photobucket

The rest of the room.

Also at this hotel the closet was much smaller than the one in Kyoto. We still managed to fit our luggage in the closet but that was about it. But the price was really great given the fact we are in Tokyo. It is super close to Shinjuku which connects to most of Tokyo. Despite the size of the room I would recommend this hotel to anyone. Especially if you are traveling alone. But more than 2 people and I would go somewhere else.

Time to explore.

After unpacking and getting things in order it was time to look around our area. Since I didn't know how long it would take to get here or how we would be feeling I didn't plan anything specifically for the day.

Photobucket

The buildings are so big they don't even look real.

A slight adjustment from Kyoto to Tokyo. Sure there were big buildings in Kyoto but Shinjuku was nothing but huge buildings! And here in Tokyo a business does not take up one building. Usually each floor had a different business or a different aspect to that business. So I am sure we missed a ton by just not being able to read Japanese.

Photobucket

Get ready to cross the streets or you will be left behind.

Photobucket

Can you imagine living in this place because I can't.

Photobucket

More buildings for you!

But despite all the huge buildings Tokyo tries to green things up. Oh and in most places smoking was not allowed on the sidewalks. But smoking was allowed in most restaurants so please be aware of that.

Photobucket

Only about a million of these babies around our hotel.

Something super popular in Japan are places called Pachinko parlors. Basically it is a no brain game that relies on pure luck instead of skill. Like slots but with pretty anime pictures every once in a while. People were allowed to smoke in there and the noise was so loud. We said we were going to try it once before we went but we found something else much more interesting. But if you want to play one of these games just look for the bright lights. One should be close to you no matter where you are in Tokyo.

Photobucket

I have no idea what this is but I sure wasn't going to eat it. XD

Photobucket

Have it your way?

First and only Burger King we saw in Japan. We saw some KFC's but it was mainly McDonalds. Oh we saw one tiny Subway but that was it. No Taco Bell, No Wendy's. There was a Denny's but their menu was different from the one back home. Oh and KFC did not have mashed potatoes so we did not bother with those fools.

Photobucket

Is it time for more anime already?

Five minutes from our hotel and what do we see? A small Gamers. It is nothing compared to the one in Akihabara but it was still a pretty decent way to spend an hour. Also there was room to move around in the place, unlike the one in Akihabara.

Photobucket

I wish we were allowed to take more pictures inside. It was like 5 anime conventions in one store. XD But sadly this is all I could take a picture of. All sneaky like of course. Just know that anime stores in Japan are better than anime conventions but may be pricier than you think. Also if you are a girl no T-shirts for you!

That is it for our Japan Trip Day 8 post. XD Prepare for Day 9 as it will be very picture heavy. Hello Kitty fans prepare yourself for the cuteness!
