Too bad they couldn't control the net....
Episode Summary: Security has increased in the city and Akane and the gang are out on patrol. Not that it is helping anything since the beating of the woman went viral. Shougo is handing out the helmets like balloon animals and it increases the number of people on the street able to get away with crimes. For half the episode messages from the web fly across the screen. Some talk about why things aren't being done, is this real, how can people fight back ect ect. All the while people are killing and attacking others. Some are taking revenge out on people who were favored by the system while others are just forming gangs because they can. Soon regular citizens with no helmets start fighting back, against those they suspect being helmet people or those being accused of it. They fight in packs to keep their number down plus it has been broadcast that you can't be punished if you fight against the helmet heads. So basically everyone is cowering in the corner or fighting. The gang watches all this violence unfold from headquarters when HeadLady ( Ms. Kasei) orders them all for an emergency meeting. While they all assemble Shougo sits down Choe so they can have some tea and talk about what they have caused. They talk about English literature because duh everyone in Japan has read that. And The Tempest obviously. They talk about how they are ordinary and they don't want to be part of the system. Shougo seems to be making a lot of sense if he wasn't the one causing all the chaos.

What the hell is wrong with you?
Ms. Kasei assembles the entire office together which is like 10 people and explains how delicate the system is and to prevent further crimes they should use these awesome bombs to disrupt the helmets. The more control they gain back the more ordinary citizens might calm the eff down. While everyone gets their two whole grenades each Shougo and Choe finish their tea and start assembling their amazing team. Choe talks about how he isn't even from Japan but wanted to see this crazy system in action and that he has learned so much from Shougo. Shougo wonders what will lie behind all this chaos if anything. Akane gets ready to go with Shinya and that red headed kid who thinks he is in this anime when Shinya is like CURSE YOU SHOUGO! Akane is like how is this Shougo's fault so Shinya breaks it down for her special self. Only someone who could beat the system could gather up all the supplies and make the helmets duh. Akane thinks about it and doesn't think that chaos is Shougo's real goal. They reach their first riot and use a grenade to take out some of the helmet heads. It gets the nonhelmet heads to surrender too. Shinya starts talking some nonsense about how the helmet heads are victims too and that they have to help them. Looking at where all the crimes are taking place they realize that one part of town is not being attacked. The building where the Siybil System is being kept. Shinya tells Ginoza what is up and Ginoza doesn't want to do this plan because obviously Shinya is amazing. But eventually Ginoza lets Shinya and his team go. It might be too late though as Choe is a computer expert and has figured out how to sneak into this building. Off he and Shougo go with their team to take down the system. THE END!

What is on this kids head?
To say that shit hit the fan would be an understatement wouldn't it? It is more like the Cloverfield monster ate all the Taco Bells in the world and couldn't make it to the giant monster potty in time and fertilized the entire world and couldn't be bothered to say Excuse me. That is how bad things got.

Akane might be on to something here....
I estimate half of the episode was dedicated to showing the horror of this situation, ¼ with Shougo and his little pal talking about his plan, and 1/4 with Akane and the other trying to figure things out and control the situation. Now that I type that all out I think even more time was dedicated to the violence and less was dedicated to Akane's team and what was going on with the popo. Violence overload or something needed to show just how crazy things could get and how fragile the Sybil System always was.

That being said....hot damn folks. Maybe it is because this society is so very suppressed that they went bonkers all over the place. Like one of those Amish kids who are set out in the world for the first time and manage to become druggies, drunkies, and whatever other ies you can think of because WOOHOO freedom! So the second things get a little crazy in this town and everyone is like give me a helmet or a baseball bat because I need to do things I never thought I could do before.

Hive mind is in motion as we speak.
Now I might not agree with Shinya this time around, something that I am not used to saying. I wouldn't call the helmet people victims. Pawns yes but not victims. Shougo makes it so people can commit their crimes, he doesn't make them commit the crimes. There are some people who choose to do the wrong thing whereas other people will choose to do the right thing even if the right thing is harder and not as popular. Listen to me, sounding like an after school special.

It looks like people got over being unable to fight back pretty fast.
But that is what the Sybil System destroyed when it came online. Society is mostly, MOSTLY governed by a greater number of people doing the right thing and those people shaming/fighting back against those going against the rules, social or civil. While no society is perfect and there will always be those looking to bend the rule the fact is there are more people obeying the laws than breaking them. Cops can't catch them all so it is up to everyday citizens to do what they can to keep order. Now that the Sybil System has come and said they will be the eyes and ears of everything the citizens in this town have grown....well lazy. Like look at my perfect life I don't have to worry about anything but myself because things are taken care of. That is one reason why things got so crazy so fast.
Photobucket
Well what is the worse that can happen at this point?
Another reason is....well the system is crazy. Actual victims can become latent criminals just by being kidnapped or witnessing crimes. So when things started to get bad well I am sure some people just said to hell with it and did what they really wanted to do on the inside. Their real face so to speak. If they see these criminals running around and not getting punished then why not do that themselves? This happens with small scale “wrongs” like people cutting in line or not returning their cart at the grocery store. But in a time where your entire area can become a stress inducing zone and false information on the internet I can see how a lot of people did things they normally wouldn't do because clearly help was not on the way. Makes me wonder if people thought about this before hand. Like HMMMM robots are the only thing keep me safe I see.....
Photobucket
I think you are angry at the wrong people.....
While some people were just being violent to be violent (looking at you douchebags who do stupid shit after hurricanes and other disasters) some clearly were acting out their frustrations. People who have been judged by the Sybil System as useless and their lot in life has been decided. Now perhaps they were taking out their frustrations on the wrong people, the ones deemed amazing as the system. But at least their anger was slightly more understandable. So clearly there are a lot of people in this city who were pissed but were hiding it well as to not make their situation even worse.

Have you read Hamlet?
Shougo and Choe having a date and talking about books written in English totally makes sense. The only thing they were missing was Aika. I mean....can't we watch some animes that don't mention English literature to prove their point? I say that and would probably complain if all they mentioned were examples that I didn't understand. XD
Photobucket
So is the rest of the world in chaos and this SEEMS logical?
But Shougo and Choe make a lot of sense which is scary. Is the system that messed up that these people SEEM sane? So much crazy. Shougo might want to free people but the way he was acting with Akane and her friend he was just taunting the system. Now it seems like he is leading a bloody revolution. Or maybe he is just bored. Choe doesn't seem to have any pony in this fight and the way he was talking revealed that the rest of the world doesn't follow this system. It is unclear if it is only Japan for now as as a test subject or if the rest of the world is a pretty dangerous place to live. But Choe is there of his own free will trying to mess things up. Yay for.....riots.
Photobucket
I am sure everything will be okay.....
I don't think Ms. Kasei could look more odd if she tried. She stated some obvious facts to the whole ten people in the department and handed out the 2o whole grenades they have. I guess they have so few people in the department because if they had any more it would make people question how safe the system really is. But maybe have a few more weapons just in case. Just in case indeed! Still I felt overwhelmed by watching the screen and all that chaos.

Cry me a river.......
I am usually on team Shinya but him talking about the helmet people being victims too...I am not sure. I have no problem with the normal citizens turning on them. Clearly some helmet people are evil while others are just taking advantage of the situation and acting out. But when you choose to don the item of the enemy you get painted with the same brush. Shougo did use them but they let themselves get used. No tears for them from me anyway.
Photobucket
That you're right again?!
But then Shinya brought it back, talking about how obviously it was Shougo who made these helmets. Does Akane not pay attention to anything? And that how Shougo really doesn't seem like the kind of person to cause chaos just because. No he must be drawing us away from somewhere. Maybe next time Shougo could make that area a little less obvious next time but then again...there aren't that many popo so he seems golden.
Photobucket
Is it okay with you Ginoza if we save the city?
The episode ends with Ginoza trying to stop Shinya from being amazing and the team trying to rush to protect the system of doom. Will they make it on time? Probably not and we might want to kiss that red headed kid goodbye. Does he have a name? I must have forgotten. XD

As an English Major, I’d say based on Makishima and Choi Goo Sung’s discussion in literatures, it is entirely possible to draw some general observations. Orwell and Dick’s works primarily deal with the concept of free will and by extension; William Gibson (one of the most well known cyberpunk authors out there)’s works deal with similar themes, although perhaps to a lesser degree considering Choi Goo Sung’s nature. “Buring Chrome” and “Neuromancer” are 2 must reads for any sci-fi buff.

Quote from RandomC, who did an amazing job at analyzing these authors:
>In analyzing why Makishima prefers Dick over Orwell (the book 1958, or check ep 2-3 [Spooky Boogi]) and why that is significant, it is necessary to look at the trajectories of the “heroes” in each author’s stories. Orwell’s works are thoroughly dystopian and pessimistic, with characters finding themselves ending in the same place they began, or in worse situations. There is no progression – if anything these characters go through regression; their development is not enough to defeat the circumstances and they’ve arguably taken two steps back after being given a small taste of the forbidden fruit. Those that succeed are not the characters that the audience experiences the story with or are victimized unfairly by a corrupt system, but the “antagonists” whose power is simply too much for the protagonists to handle. On the other hand, Dick’s characters experience some form of forward motion – even though their successes are not as plain as a fairytale prince defeating a dragon and winning the princess’ hand, at the end of their journey they’ve achieved a small measure of victory that implies the system is not strong enough to completely dominate individual will. To put it in very simple, black and white terms, Dick is optimistic while Orwell is pessimistic. <

Anonymous- I guess over in Aika land I was just feeling overwhelmed by so many characters knowing English literature. Like really is everyone in Japan that amazing and checking out every single book written (but translated) in English. Or maybe I just feel dumb XD Either way.

But yes with that explanation. Hopefully Shougo prefers Dick over Orwell or else why would he even bother. But then again he does seem bored half the time so that could be his motivation...as sad as that might be.
