YAWN! Lazy day alert even though I have to be at work soon. Hopefully. It wouldn’t be a day at work without some drama yes? Although it might be hard to have drama at work if I don’t get to go yes? Listen to me…get to go…SPOILER ALERT! I got to go to work. YAY ME!
But in between petting my cat and wasting crazy amounts of time on the internet….anime time! Feels like it is always anime time. Hyouka episode 9 already? Spoilers for the mystery movie continuing!
Hi we are here to NOT solve your mystery XD
Episode Summary: Eba and her creepy self explains that these three classmates helped work on the film and will explain what they think is the trick to the murder mystery. Up first is the big guy who looks like a jock. Eru breaks out the sweets but it turns out they are made from liquor and the other kids stop eating them after one piece. This leaves ALL the chocolates for Eru to eat. Eru asks jock guy how the script girl Hongou is doing. Apparently she has a condition and has been weak all her life. The jock guy seems to think things will be wrapped up with someone in the group accusing the correct person…and that person will confess on the spot. He also explains that he think the killer used the window. That theory is shot down because the grass was undisturbed in the movie. The jock guy is like OH Hongou scouted the land before the grass grew my theory works! He leaves the room and the Classic Club decides that his theory can’t work as all the other students would have seen someone outside due to the many windows in the building.
That would probably would make sense and this way less complicated.
While talking about how the jock guys theory sucks the Classic Club talks about what degree of mystery lover they are. Satoshi ranks the highest as Sherlock Holmes’ lover and Eru ranks the lowest….which surprises all. When Eba comes back the club asks for a copy of the script. In the meantime they will talk to the special effects guy who has a pointy nose. He points out that Hongou was not a pro with mysteries and had to read several amateur mystery books to get ideas. Eru finds notes in one of these books. Pointy nose guy thinks it was a crime of opportunity and that Hongou planned things out poorly for not asking for more blood. After much talking about floor layout and keys he explains he thinks the person used a rope (that Hongou asked for) to repel down into the first floor. After he leaves Mayaka declares him rude and everyone discovers that Eru is nearly drunk off chocolates. The theory is eventually disproven as the window was difficult to open in the movie thus sneaking up on someone would be hard. Eba returns with the script and everyone is shocked at all the details. Last the happy go lucky girl with crazy hair appears. She seems to have mystery and horror mixed up and thinks the movie was going to end with most of the cast dead. She explains the locked door by supernatural means. Ghost don’t use doors DUH! Eru and her drunk self pass out before she explain why the theory is wrong. The others decide while they can’t confirm or deny the ghost they doubt anyone else was going to die in the movie. Eba returns and they explain this theory will not work either. The group realizes they might not be able to solve the mystery at all. Mayaka walks drunk face home and Houtarou runs into Irisu on the street. THE END!!!
Sick people often volunteer to do time consuming tasks DUH!
A three part arc? In my Hyouka? HOW DARE THEY! Of course…this has ended up being the second best episode and if things keep going this way the next episode will be my third favorite episode. Or they will all be my favorite. So why would I want something enjoyable to end faster that necessary? But yes I did think this arc was going to be wrapped up in two episodes and I am pleasantly surprised.
Psht they should have all gotten drunk and come up with amazing ideas.
I am just going to talk about this first as it is the most amusing part of the episode and sorta affected some of the scenes. Eru getting drunk…HILARIOUS! I am sure those chocolates were meant for her parents and she was like OH I will take these to school. Just left on the kitchen table..or the dining room table as she is a rich girl and she skipped off with them. Then her parents went X___X where did the chocolates go? Eru walks…or stumbles in from school and they go OH SNAP! Drunk daughter.
And then she ate them all?!
Hilarious folks. Hilarious. So hilarious I will start another paragraph without warning. She just kept popping those candies in her mouth when everyone else was like UM NO. Which was a little crazy too yes? What underage person wouldn’t love booze tasting chocolate? Oh right the ones who freak out about underage smoking. Still it was funny that no one took the box away from her and that she couldn’t put together any reasons why to why the theories sucked. They just did. I thought she was having a moment of clarity but then she passed out. Fun for all.
Is he embarrassed or sneezing?
But back to the meat of the episode. Did you notice how quiet Houtarou was? Maybe he was just the same amount of quiet but after each method he just looked confused and maybe said one thing. It just felt that Mayaka and Satoshi were doing most of the talking. But when Houtarou spoke he was usually leading the group to the correct path while Mayaka was easily swayed no matter who talked and Satoshi was acting a bit smug. Oh and Eru was drunk.
Man of few words but they matter!
But maybe I am just used to Houtarou solving the mysteries at the speed of fast. That Houtarou has to do a lot of talking because he is explaining his correct theory. Since he has no correct theory yet he is keeping quiet and asking a few questions here and there. But his WFT face when people are talking to him are slightly amusing. Like um you are the reason this whole serious pony show is going on buddy.
I am totally the opposite only because I have never heard of that before. X___X
Before I talk about the other theories I will just throw out what I think happened which was not mentioned at all. How does someone break into a locked room when no other possibility makes sense? The door wasn’t locked. The person trying to open the door would make sure they were the one to try and pretend to do so. Then they would pretend to open the door when the master key arrived. This is just me throwing out a theory and not rewatching the video again. Also is the key on the ground next to the hand the key to the room? Perhaps that needs to be examined, that the killer has the correct room key and let his/her key behind next to the hand.
Mayaka was like BAM next!
Let us discuss the theories themselves. Since I am a special American who refuses to use names for tiny minor characters because learning is HARD….lets just call them tall dude, pointy nose, and horror girl. For some reason I thought they were just going to be mystery EXPERTS in the class, not people who worked on the movie. Either way it would work. Maybe this way was better as they had behind the scenes information and what not.
Maybe if there were less windows in the world there would be less crime?
Jock dude was pretty….well…basic. THE WINDOW! A room with a window the person must have gone out there. Although I do think it was smart of him or at least quick on his feet to say oh Hongou saw the place before the grass grew that must be it. But I think his theory was the least thought out by the group and not something I would expect from an expert. He was very enthusiastic though. Maybe Houtarou was busy focusing on the tiny details, like how the cast was adlibbing a lot moreso on what jock dude really thought. Like oh the cast strayed from the original material? Let me get a script then.
Oh hi I am here to kill you! XD
Pointy nose was a bit hard to look at. And was a bit full of himself. His theory was more like mission impossible. I mean…is there really such a thing as a rock climbing club in Japan? I mean it does explain how someone could go unseen unlike the window scenario but still crazy. Who carries around that much rope with them just in case they have a chance to take out one of their classmates? The bit about the window being hard to open I didn’t pick up on because I am not AMAZING and remember small details upon watching a movie one time. Ask me about tiny details in The Thing and we are on though. So I would have ruled out the rope theory just because…who brings rope with them?!
Of course! It all makes sense now!
Now I have to admit I like horror girls theory best….for obvious reasons right? If something is unexplainable it is probably due to the magic of the unexplained! Ghosts don’t care about locked doors. They just go HAHAHA and kill whoever they see. It was a bit disappointing that the additional character deaths were just theories in her head and not the real deal. But yes her theory of well…if it can’t be logical it has to be magical works with me. Houtarou was able to blow that silly theory out of the water though with the small amount of blood. Well part of the theory anyway. The other issue is that we the viewers should be able to figure out the mystery with the video shown. I didn’t see any ghosts hanging around there right? Still…interesting.
Trying to involve the sick girl or taking advantage of the situation?
So the facts about the nonmovie stuff….why did Hongou’s class pick HER to do the script? If she has always been sick why would they pick her? Afraid she was going to die and were going to have her live on in this way? If so horror girl needs to rewatch Another. Just seems harsh to put pressure on this girl. And even if this girl is sick I am sure she doesn’t want to leave her class with a crappy project. Can’t they just ask what the name of the movie is? I am sure that will help. And there seems to be conflicting information on why this movie genre was even chosen. It felt like some people were against it but almost everyone is like WOOHOO MOVIE!
True they are but can be totally different at the same time!
I did think it was a little odd that the Classic Club didn’t really come with their own theories. They just talked about how all these other theories must be wrong. They sorta just packed up and went home, without the promise of trying to figure out a solution themselves. More like OH we tried time to enjoy our summer break. Which is probably what I would have done but still. XD Mayaka seemed so invested I am surprised she didn’t suggest that.
Yet she was way more helpful this episode!
The episode ends with Houtarou running into Irisu. Apparently this will jump start him into wanting to find an ending for this movie. Silly Houtarou. Maybe if Eru hadn’t gotten drunk her crazy eyes would have done that for him. But yay for part three of this mystery yes?
BRB got to watch Sci-Fi now!
