My Summer Anime 2014 Line-up Picks!

Well then folks. Well then. It appears that while I was finishing up the Spring 2014 anime and pretending that the Winter 2013/2014 animes still had a chance at being finished.....Summer has started!!! I guess I should have gotten more done instead of going out on the 4th of July to watch fireworks. Happy Birthday United States, lets blow you up!!!!

Apparently robot/doll girls need watermelon during the summer time too.
As I woke up today beyond late in the day due to all the antics of the holiday I realized that some of my possible anime choices were already up to be downloaded. Well I say possible and it is Sailor Moon that I am downloading. I think that is a guarantee. It was a guarantee the minute was announced about 2 years ago. XD So since that show is a definite I needed to spend some of the World Cup (in between screams and injuries) looking at the rest of the line-up to see what sparks my interest and could be possibly making an appearance on my blog. So come, see what looks interesting or...special. Maybe both.

Well hopefully none of these kids die.
Synopsis: Touko Fukami's family runs a glass-working business in a small seaside town. She hangs out with her four best friends at a cafe called Kazemichi. During the summer break of their senior year of high school they meet a transfer student named Kakeru Okikura who claims that a voice from the future talks to him and that it's led him to Touko. His arrival sets off a series of events that will make their final summer together full of hope and heartache.

Thoughts: Looking at my other choices (maybe or yesses) this might be my only one that doesn't involve death, mayhem, and sparkles. I am not sure if it will be slice of life or will have a bit of supernatural in it. Kakeru could just be a little crazy and hear voices. Either way it seems like the most normal show I have on my list. Everyone is smiling and friends and are going to have fun. Although wouldn't it suck to be transferred so late in your high school career? I call shenanigans, the father would have moved and the family would have stayed behind to be with the high schooler. So Touko...are you going to make my summer just as fun with your friends and glass blowing business?

Tokyo Ghoul

 photo tokyoghoul_zps39c9718a.jpg
I wonder where you buy a mask like that...

Synopsis: The suspense horror/dark fantasy story is set in Tokyo which is being haunted by mysterious “ghouls” who are devouring humans. People are gripped by their fear of these ghouls whose identities are masked in mystery. An ordinary college student named Kaneki encounters Rize, a girl who is an avid reader like him, at the cafe he frequents. Little does he realize that his fate will change overnight.

Thoughts: SO MANY DETAILS! Like do new shows want me to watch them or not? Can I get a little bit of info up in here please? Of course if I had too many details I would complain I knew too much and why bother watching. Like with trailers here in the United States for movies. Like whelp, just saw the entire movie not going to waste my money now. So what do I have to go on here folks? Ghouls...are they people or really monsters? Do they eat people or kill them? Or maybe take their souls? And why the line about avid reader? Are they going to read the ghouls to death? I suppose I can give this show a whirl. Just it is amazing how many people have their fate changed overnight you know?

Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon Crystal

 photo sailormoon1_zps6c3a739b.jpg
Hey Raye, maybe you can be nicer to me in this show? Maybe?

Synopsis: Usugi Tsukino is a second-year middle school girl who is a little clumsy and a crybaby but she is full of energy. One day she meets Luna, a black cat with a crescent moon on her forehead and she transforms into Sailor Moon, a pretty guardian of love and justice. As a chosen guardian of justice Usagi has a mission to find the Illusionary Silver Crystal with the other guardians and to protect the Princess. Meanwhile the Queen of the Dark Kingdom, Queen Beryl, also sends minions to the town where Usagi lives to obtain the Illusionary Silver Crystal which has immense power.

Thoughts: Yeah folks. Yeah. It is finally happening and obviously I am going to be watching this show. I am not sure if everyone knows this but Sailor Moon was my gateway anime. I think everyone holds their gateway anime special in their hearts despite any issues that happened in the series. Sailor Moon taught me about horrible English dubbing, C-team animation, and censoring anything that kids in the United States might...really not care about but their parents would. But it opened up a whole new world for me. Sailor Moon was my first manga which made me want to watch the show which I guess lead to my continued interest to anime and manga to this day. And equally exciting is this new anime is supposed to follow the manga much more faithfully. Which is good. People will be less likely to be assholes or crybabies (or...just not as long) and long winded friend of the week plots will be clipped down to a more manageable state. Not so exciting is that I hear it will take a year to watch all 26 episodes with a new every other week airing. :( Why so you haters?

The Maybes

 Love Stage

Eyes looking a bit weird.

Synopsis: With a father who's a singer, a mother who's a movie star, and an older brother Shougo who's the lead vocalist for the super-popular band "The Crusherz," Sena Izumi, an otaku college student, is the only dull one born into this super famous and talented family. He loves "Magical Girl LalaLulu" and is working hard to become a mangaka, but one day he winds up appearing in a TV commercial he just can't turn down. There, he's reunited with Ichijou Ryouma, the super-popular young actor he costarred with on a project ten years prior.

Thoughts: HMMM. This one is a giant maybe folks. Which is surprising given my track record. Oh look Christina, not one but TWO boy love animes this season. BE STILL MY BEATING HEART! And given that this show SOUNDS very similar to a show I watched previously (Sekaiichi Hatsukoi). Not exactly the same but similar enough that I should be like OH I like this style of show, this might work for me. I don't know what is making me pull the maybe card though. The art maybe? Their faces look a little off putting to me. And I don't want to watch everything that is boy on boy related because...well that doesn't make them good. I can like zombie movies but not support them all because some suck. I can't just blindly support one genre because I generally like said genre. Also what the heck is Magical Girl LaLulu. The name wants me to poke my eyes out. So I guess I will see how the first episode goes and if things get too nonsensical I will bail. Maybe.

DRAMAtical Murder

 photo dramaticalmuder_zps5ebabfbb.jpg
Judging by what I have seen on the internet...the blue hair kid needs to run.

Synopsis: The story takes place many years in the future where the game "Rhyme," a virtual fighting game, is incredibly popular and people possess "AllMates," convenient AI computers. Aoba leads an ordinary life, working at a junk shop and living with his grandmother on the island of Midorijima. Unlike his friends, he doesn't participate in Rhyme, nor does he belong in a gang. However, when rumors of people disappearing spread, Aoba finds himself needing to unravel the mysteries behind the island in order to protect his everyday life.

Thoughts: OH BOY FOLKS! While the other boy on boy show reminds me of a gentle anime revolving around manga printing and what not...this show obviously reminds me of Togainu no Chi. At first I didn't even know it was a boy love anime until I tried to find a screenie for the blog. It was OH BOY X__X all over my computer then. A lot of consensual and non-consensual all over the damn internet. So I am assuming the plot (as....much as I can understand from the nonsense above) is like Togainu no Chi, where the main character will have a lot of male friends and in the original source material he can have HAPPY endings with his friends or BAD endings with his friends. So everyone will love this Aoba guy and depending on how the anime spins it someone will come across as...well not evil and the rest will be super evil.

Given that Togainu no Chi didn't have all the....sexy moments all over the place and had a lot of plot going on I can assume that DRAMATICAL Murder will be the same. So I should focus on understanding said plot right? So...everyone has an iPhone with a personality and there is a game you can play with said phones. Two gangs are causing problems while Aoba is all lalaing in town not caring about anything. Until you know....people start to die. Clearly a kid who has no idea what to do needs to get involved and make lots of “new” friends. The little dog thing seems cute. If things start getting...well special I can bail but how can I say no to all these cute boys doing....well the cute CONSENSUAL things to Aoba? Divided on this folks.

So is that it? HMMMM. If I had finished the first season of Hamatora I would watch the second season now. That was actually the plan, for me to catch up on the last few episodes as I like the series but you know me....such a slacker. I am not counting that anime out yet though. Kuroshitsuji Circus Hen seems to be about manga chapters that happened in between seasons and since I already know how that anime ends (a bit sadly..obviously) I think it would be weird to watch “happier”/okay times. I might change my mind though. Even though Sword Art Online got...special during the second arc I thought it was an okay anime. I just find guns rather boring. But if I hear others talking about the show I guess I could give it a whirl yes? I also had Zankyou no Terror originally on my maybe list so I might re-add it if other things don't work out and I hear positive/interesting things. Just the synopsis of game and terrorism didn't sit well with me so I guess I held back. Now that this post is over...I guess it is time to start watching all this stuff! Way to go slacker me. XD

Hello @Christina

Let's be honest here; Sailor Moon Crystal is the only true highlight of this Summer Anime 2014 season. I'm sorry fans of other shows, but Sailor Moon has returned!

I don't know how I feel about Tokyo Ghouls, maybe it's trying to be another Blood-C with the excessive gore and violence.

Not my thing.

In my opinion, I think you should drop Tokyo Ghouls and just focus on Sailor Moon Crystal. It'll save you time and ease up on your schedule. Just my opinion though.

Hope you're feeling well.

That's all.

Nah. Drop Glass Lip.
It's just another show of young girls being insufferable nice to each other and do nothing exciting.

Hi Christina,
I noticed you had some misgivings about the new Black Butler anime, which I am really excited for. It actually isn't between the two animes, most of which is not canon, but continues from the middle of the first anime, following the manga. Technically Circus-hen is as if the second anime never happened, which is kind of nice seeing how that ends. Also, from reading the manga, I wouldn't say it represents happier times, it's actually kind of dark. I hope that makes it sound more appealing to you :)

Sincerely,

A fan of your blog
